23.01.2022 "There’s something scouring about it, something revelatory. Many things will be laid bare, many things revealed, like a lowering tide revealing slippery, kelpy ocean rocks, encrusted with barnacles and kelp and creatures strange to the eye. Systems will change, old assumptions overturned".

22.01.2022 The medicine is in the pain. We are unconsciously motivated to avoid the wound due to when and how it formed. Often at a young age when we needed to stay safe. This avoidance results in feeling lost, numb, anxious and depressed. But it doesn't have to be this way forever. With the right guidance and support we can move through the pain, our shadow and into the higher self. Most often a guide is needed to show the way. http://thepowerofideas.ideapod.com/brazilian-shaman-reveal/

21.01.2022 I have come to believe that quality psychotherapists are actually our truest spiritual teachers. Because the quality psychotherapists work the deep material tha...t, when cleared and transformed, actually expands our spiritual lens. Many modern spiritual teachers are bypassing the very material that must be deeply owned and worked through before sustainable transformation can happen. The greatest spiritual teacher I have ever known was Bioenergetics co-founder Alexander Lowen, because he had such a deep and courageous understanding of the relationship between transformation of the emotional body and the awakening of the spiritual, or what I might call, the 'spirited body'. Lowen's framework brought people back into the moment in ways that no 'spiritual teacher' I have ever witnessed could, because he had the guts to get right into the heart of the people he worked with. No soft touch approaches, no cosmic band-aids, no simplistic affirmations as substitutes for the real work. He intuitively understood that there can be no 'presence', no 'nowness', no integrated experience of non-duality if one's consciousness is still locked into the unresolved past. We are confusing transcendence addiction with spiritual maturation in the western world. In fact, there is no real distinction between spiritual and emotional maturation. Same, same. Working the guts of the being is the key to sustainable transformation... See more

20.01.2022 When you start to engage the body and the mind you are working with the biochemistry of your happiness. You might want more happiness or less stress in our life, but you have to start to explore the question, are you healthy enough to be happy? What is blocking you from having more happiness in your life at a muscular/cellular and energetic level? If we look at health from a biophysical perspective, you might be using up energy holding back something that it is too painful t...o feel or experience. This decreases energy flow in the body and causes muscular tension, and can result in other more serious health issues. By engaging in body-mind therapy you can start to increase your capacity for energy flow and integrate lost or painful parts of the self, that have been kept hidden. As you reclaim these fragmented parts of the self you also reclaim your full potential for happiness and love. Warmly, Tarquin Ward

19.01.2022 So many of the problems people face have their beginnings in the explorations and experiences of love. These wide openings of the heart provide a gateway of ecstatic exploration into the unknown where one often hopes their pain or lonliness will be banished and forgotten. The other side of love though, with its grief or disappointment is a wise teacher that provides us with invaluable lessons to be remembered and held onto.... Grief is an open heart with nothing to grab a hold of, if we can tolerate being in this open pain we can choose to be alive on either side of love. This embodied approach to emotions enables us to start to live a soulful life that rather than being unconsciously defended, giving the individual great capacity for connection and purpose.

18.01.2022 The effects of early environmental trauma are often pervasive and debilitating but can go unnoticed for many years. 17.01.2022 "Psychodynamic treatment. Its more effective than other treatments when it comes to personality and relationship issues, and its the only one shown to offer enduring results".

17.01.2022 Most people have some sense of their own individuality, but can be lacking in their connection to the people around them or the outer world. With a healthy state of connection and awareness you are able to feel and notice contact between your inner world, the core or heart, and the world or people around you. Reaching out doesn't have to be a calculated or mechanical action, instead it should be informed from feeling from the core, which is unique to each person. This expressive energy moves out into the world to make contact, and events or situations in the outer world and relationships reach back making contact with the inner world, the heart. In this felt awareness and connection we are able to take responsibility for our actions and relationships, living with clarity, purpose and meaning.

16.01.2022 Psychotherapy is a rich and rewarding journey into our inner world. As we explore and integrate different parts of the self, possibly exiled or in conflict, we start to let go of unconscious fear. This enables us to surrender to life, to its joy and the deep connection that is available with others and ourselves. It is being grounded in this deep connection that gives us the capacity to be fully alive, in the pain and in the joy. http://www.thebookoflife.org/twenty-key-concepts-from-psyc/

14.01.2022 Often when people think of trauma, images of refugee camps or domestic family violence come to mind. For many trauma might have been having a depressed primary care giver, having an overly controlling parent, a lack of emotional contact and support or an absent parent. Trauma is often invisible and unspoken, individuals suffering from trauma create a narrative that trivialises the impact of their early childhood experiences. ... This impact has a long lasting effect on individuals nervous system and health, emotions, beliefs, behaviours and capacity for intimacy and joy. In a Body Psychotherapy setting, new somatic experiences in the present moment can undo the trauma from the past, creating new possibilities for aliveness, purpose, joy and connection. 14.01.2022 I am always inspired by my clients, their courage to step into hidden painful places, their honesty and their desire for change in their lives. Often one of the first questions people ask is, "What is Body Psychotherapy?" Here is a brief introduction that I hope is helpful.... Body Psychotherapy is an approach to psychotherapy that is holistic and multi-modal in its engagement of the body-mind. This means that it values and sees each person as a unique individual, using an integrated approach in working with the mind, body and energy. This multi-modal approach is informed by Core Energetics, Bio Energetics, Freud, Jung and Reich. It also draws on and uses the latest research and techniques in neurobiology (science of emotions), relational neuroscience (connection and relationships), psychosomatics (mind-body medicine) and somatic trauma work (PTSD). This synthesis of traditional counselling methods and alternative body work techniques are able to facilitate an embodied and safe space where deep conflicts and emotional wounds or trauma can be engaged in on a journey to profound healing and self-transformation. By working with and engaging the body you are able to access all of your experiences, of both joy and pain. When negative or painful experiences happen through life the body and its energy contracts. This contraction becomes an unconscious defence in the body-mind and represents an attempt to stay safe from emotions or experiences that are perceived as overwhelming, hostile or threatening. This contraction is evident in physiology as chronic muscular tension, shallow breathing or low/manic energy. This will also result in distorted thinking, perceptions of reality and behaviour. These blocks or contraction may result in an inability to experience joy or pleasure, lack of deep contact with oneself and others, low self esteem or lack of acceptance, anxiety, depression and fear or shame. By helping people become anchored in their body and engaging their individual resilience and capacity for healing, I work with a persons health from a biophysical perspective, assisting in restoring the natural flow of energy in a person and engaging their highest potential. This offers more than tools for dealing with or overcoming depression , anxiety or relationship issues, it offers an opportunity for each person to courageously explore and experience their full potential to change, to grow, to experience more joy, love and purpose in their life. 14.01.2022 Often when we get stuck in talk therapy or spiritual confusion, we need to come back to our body and discover what is stopping us from living from our core self.

13.01.2022 It is important to understand how complex trauma can be a part of neuro development. Often there are no words or a specific event that can pinpoint or describe this inner turmoil , instead it will manifest in neural pathway and nervous system responses to certain stimuli or situations that might be confusing or overwhelming. Luckily the individuals psychobiology can evolve through sensitive and targeted interventions, resulting in a new deeper experience of embodied safety.

13.01.2022 "You are not separate from the earth; you are of the earth. And grounding means touching the ground, really touching it. Let the natural expression of the earth rise up through your body. And then, from that groundedness, begin to move, and to grow, just as a tree grows taller by first extending its roots." 12.01.2022 Pandemic What if you thought of it as the Jews consider the Sabbath the most sacred of times? Cease from travel.... Cease from buying and selling. Give up, just for now, on trying to make the world different than it is. Sing. Pray. Touch only those to whom you commit your life. Center down. And when your body has become still, reach out with your heart. Know that we are connected in ways that are terrifying and beautiful. (You could hardly deny it now.) Know that our lives are in one anothers hands. (Surely, that has come clear.) Do not reach out your hands. Reach out your heart. Reach out your words. Reach out all the tendrils of compassion that move, invisibly, where we cannot touch. Promise this world your love-- for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, so long as we all shall live. --Lynn Ungar 11/03/20 See more

12.01.2022 The journey of an open heart and embodied life goes deeper and longer than any time line or action plan. There are many things we would like or want, but the challenge is to connect with the felt sense behind these practical aspirations and open up and explore our deepest longing. In this process of stepping into the mystery of our heart we can start to release frozen or trapped energy. This energy has been lost as our core self has contracted in the face of pain, grief or ...disappointment we have experienced through life. Gently move through these painful places and hold this deep longing, this soul purpose out in front to guide the way. Always a reminder of what is sacred to us and how this can shape who we are in the world. Much warmth Tarquin Ward

11.01.2022 After a short break grounding classes are back on every Tuesday night. I am looking forward to grounding as a group with like minded people. I really believe any time taken out to be in your body, to be more mindful, to improve energy flow and awareness is a real gift to yourself and the people around you. Tonight we will be focusing on the head/neck segment of the body. This terminology comes from muscular armouring theory and is a big part of how I work as a body psychother...apist and how I structure the grounding classes. To find out more come along and join in. Tuesday nights, 7-8PM, @ 17 Bishop St Kelvin Grove $10 or $5 concession. Wear loose clothing and bring a water bottle Warmly, Tarquin Ward https://www.psychologytoday.com//slow-movement-awareness-b

10.01.2022 Many men suffer alone and in silence. Do you have the courage and support to explore your inner world and discover what gifts can be reclaimed to live a life with greater purpose and connection?

10.01.2022 Often when we reach out for help it might seem like one of the worst days of our life. This reaching out is most likely prompted by an external event, situation or a deep longing that has not been met. We can only manage our external world as well as we can navigate and understand our internal world. This is because our own unconscious avoidance, fear or demands will always manifest in the situations and relationships we find ourselves in. Often when people find themselves s...tuck or dissatisfied it will result in depression (numbness), irritability (anger) or anxiety (fear). These feeling states will result in a fixation on an external issue or event that the individual tries to shift or change without success. What is lacking in this challenging situation is an effective understanding and dialogue between the individuals internal and external world. By working with energy and consciousness and carefully looking at what the persons soul or deep longing is trying to bring forward a gentle and empowering process can be facilitated to assist this longing being manifested in the external world. Because we all have blind spots and use avoidance to deal with the complexities and stress of life most often a guide is needed who can hold space and co-create a dialogue with us, while we do the hard work miracle of stepping into these unconscious places that seem scary and painful. What we turn away from will always be there waiting for when we are ready to reclaim a lost part of ourselves. Remember that you are never alone and there is always someone else thinking the same thoughts or asking the same questions. Warmly, Tarquin

10.01.2022 "Does someone have depression, a medical disorder of their brain, or are they having a depressed adaptive response to adversity? Adversity is something we can overcome, whereas a mental disorder is something to be managed. The labels imply very different possibilities."

07.01.2022 As the outer world contracts, how will our inner world respond? Will it become numb with distraction or will we rush ahead leaving it behind? Or will it expand in response, shedding light on hidden places that we thought would remain hidden. I am providing zoom sessions on a sliding scale to suit individual financial situations during this time, make contact to book an appointment. Warmly, Tarquin.

03.01.2022 When there has been a personality disruption during early development sometimes a sense of worthlessness will become embedded within the individuals psyche. This feeling of not being good enough will operate below conscious awareness resulting in the individual constantly judging their actions and endeavors as being not good enough or worthless. This constant negativity directed towards the core self via this unconscious belief is so constant and painful that it cannot be ...tolerated. For the psyche to deal with this ongoing distress it will then project this feeling onto others through judgment and criticism. For the psyche to maintain this constant perspective of judgment and criticism of others the ego must fully identify, or merge, with the logical, or sense making function of the psyche. While this function serves a purpose in attempting to alleviate suffering occurring below conscious awareness, the psyche then loses its feeling function though over identification with the intellect. Resulting in an inability to come into deep contact with the self and others. This separation from the feeling function will mean the individual will not be able to get their needs met in a healthy way that cultivates intimacy and embodied relating. Through exploring what follows us in the shadows we can start to transform these unconscious patterns that have emerged through painful experiences. Paving the way for a new way of being in the world that is more embodied, curious and connected.
