25.01.2022 Our Rosedale Spicy Relish bottled today, normally available in glass bottles of 250ml & 1litre, we bottled 2 in 1litre plastic to lighten the weight for postage to Queensland. At Tarra Valley Foods, we always put our customers first. Some products just look so good in glass. The other photo is our 500ml Raspberry Vinegar. Some of our older customers remember drinking Raspberry Vinegar at the Sunday School Picnics. Very refreshing!
25.01.2022 The perfect match! No it's not the AFL Grand Final today, it was Tarra Valley Red Pepper Jelly with oven baked Red Schnapper and Chips. We are not great followers of football but we do take an interest in history. In 1967 Richmond played Geelong in the Grand Final. An old school mate Bill Barrot was in the Richmond team and Doug Wade was in the Geelong team, later in life I met Doug Wade at a Rotary Club meeting, he is a very interesting man. The 1967 Grand Final was won by Richmond by 9 points 16.18 114 to Geelong 15.15 105. In those days it was the VFL Victorian Football League not the AFL. We are open for business.
25.01.2022 It's good news to hear that regional Victoria is open. While Melbourne is still in Stage 4 lockdown it doesn't mean that visitors from Melbourne will not be in our region. The work permit system will still allow people into our area. By exercising the same care and rules we will be continuing to keep our area Covid -19 free. Yesterday we picked Seville Oranges at Somerville before picking up another range of cartons for mail orders. Back via the Nar Nar Goon roadblock, and if you think our lot is hard imagine those on their feet all day at the road block. Be nice to them they are just doing their job. Finished our Blood Orange Marmalades in the last few days.
24.01.2022 Since the arrival of Covid - 19 we like many small businesses have taken a hit but it is fair to suggest that we are and will be OK. We have made changes to tweek product sizes to ensure that when we post to a customer that they get as much product as possible. We introduced a 2 6kg bucket that we use for Green Tomato Pickles and Tomato & Onion Relish. That why a customer who wants 7 jars is not paying postage for glass jars and the 2.6kg bucket packs well, is not as fragile a...nd fits in the fridge at home. Our range of boxes and allows us to pack amounts from 2 jars to 20kg and our thanks goes to our wholesalers who pointed us in the right direction of good cMsg us with your cartons and suppliers. The lot in this post arrived from NSW today, some from Braeside last week and a new lot from Braeside are due this week. Msg us with your requirements and like Lisa at Comadai your order will be posted or delivered quickly. Just because you are in lockdown doesn't mean you can't have the best. See more
22.01.2022 As we in Victoria are watching the number of new daily cases of Covid - 19 fall to a level where the lockdown and curfew can be lifted credit must go to the organisers of the 2020 Tour de France. The number in Victoria fell to 14 on Sunday and there have been no cases involved in the Tour de France for the 19 days it has been running for and it finishes in a couple of hours. This year will history made with 21 year old Tadej Pogacar winning the Tour and winning the Yellow,Wh...ite & Polka Dot jersey at his first attempt and his team director is Australian Alan Peiper and third place will go to Tasmanian Cyclist Ritchie Porte who has a history of "if it can go wrong it usually does". Trying to fit in watching the Tour and keeping up production levels and getting our samples for the 2020 Australian Marmalade Festival ready has taken some juggling and combine this with the pressure of co-ordinating deliveries into Melbourne and running our little shop in Rosedale, we just smile and think how lucky we are.Thank you to all of those who have supported us through a very difficult year. 21.01.2022 Just love this time of year, stone fruits are coming onto the shelves every day, peaches, nectarines, plums, pears, mangoes, grapes, avocados, cherries, apples, pears, oranges, pineapples oops nearly forgot apricots. Talk to us about your needs we just might be able to help. To those who continue to support us we simply say thank you. Talk to us about Christmas Gifts and Hampers because at Tarra Valley Foods in the centre of Rosedale we have the biggest range at the best price...s. Our competitors buy from the supermarket at retail prices, our suppliers ring us to tell us when picking is starting and ask us what we want. Queensland has been in lockdown and last week our first load of onions from the Lockyer Valley arrived. When the Swan Hill onions commence we get ready for the Cream Golds from Griffiths. Call to today from Ardmona confirmed Orange Red Apricots are coming of the trees this week. Restocked on empty jars this week, capzicums $8/kg retail, our price is $5/kg for ripe reds and as usual our prices remain unchanged. See more
21.01.2022 In our last post, we predicted the number of new cases of Covid-19 would rise from 37 before falling to be in the low 20's by Tuesday. They did when they rose to 41 on Sunday and fell today to 35. It would be good to know why it trends up and down on every other day. On lighter note, we sent a few kilograms of rhubarb to Cafe 3847 & Co and were rewarded with a couple of rhubarb pies. Wow, to quote Larry "they were so good". Word on the street is that once BP Rosedale is finished the next job is for a new BP at Nicholson, and the Shell Servo at Nar Nar Goon is to be levelled and the whole site redeveloped.
20.01.2022 Spare a thought for the kids who are already under medical care!
20.01.2022 Thank you, we try very hard.
19.01.2022 Victoria is nearing 15 days without a new case of Covid 19, it may be argued that transmission will be less in hot weather, be that as it may the same procedures that have kept us safe will still apply. Personal hygiene and social distancing with face masks etc. Rosedale is open for business! At Tarra Valley Foods we are having trouble keeping stock levels high and for all who have supported us in difficult times we say Thank You.
19.01.2022 Travelled down the Old Rosedale Road during the week to shift horses, the country looks magnificent and the road was as greasy as a pork chop on a plate. Caught at least 10 wallabies by surprise which kept popping up and 2 big kangaroos and lots of wildflowers with huge amount of native rice flower.
18.01.2022 Watch this space! Clint Eastwood never had one as good as this one.
17.01.2022 Today will be interesting in terms of what the Premier of Victoria will allow. If he doesn't allow Abattoirs, Poultry & Seafood Processing to operate at 100% capacity then we need to look into those who regulate and are responsible for the supervision and operation of those industries. Modern day standards require hand washing facilities with warm running water, firstly it should be hot running water. It really wouldn't matter if you washed your hands in a 44 gallon drum provided you've got hand washing liquid and hot water and you Do Wash Your Hands when required. How often do you see food handlers sitting outside on an upturned milk crate in their work clothes having a smoke? Not sure about any of this then have a look at Barrier Nursing.
16.01.2022 This was what the water at Mount Martha was like after our first delivery and one of Peninsula Freeway on our way to the Southbank delivery before heading to Ringwood via the Monash and Eastlink, deliveries to Patterson Lakes and pick ebay purchases and deliveries at Cheltenham. Still very depressing and quiet in Melbourne but there are plenty of building works around Armadale where we had a delivery.
15.01.2022 There is no doubt about it Peta Credlin is a very clever lady, between her and the whole team at Sky News they certainly get the good oil on the Victorian Covid -19 saga. To hear our Premier Dan Andrews, make statements like " I'm not a Doctor" " I am not the Coroner" In reference to Professor Bennett "she is not the Chief Medical Officer " should have everyone in Victoria up in arms and protesting. It would be a very good bet that the CMO is not an Epedemiologist. It really ...is time for Dan Andrews to admit he has the wrong attitude and he is wrong and he has made mistakes. With regard to the buck stops with him, he didn't hesitate when he threw Jenny Mikakos under the bus. There will be more go under the bus before this matter is finished. On the list are three public servants, Lisa Neville, Martin Pakula and others on the Dream Team of Eight. The sad part is when he goes we give him a payment until he dies, others will struggle for the rest of their life on Welfare Benefits and never recover emotionally and financially. See more
13.01.2022 After you turn left onto the Heyfield Road have a look at the Oat crop on the first property on the right hand side of the road. This would have to be the best c...rop of oats I have ever seen. The oldies will remember harvesting oats using the old reaper and binder and stooking the sheaves into rows that looked like a teepee, then using a pitchfork to load the trailer and making the haystack. 11.01.2022 We are open again today and already it is looking like we will be busy.Just replenished stocks for use at our local cafes being Cafe 3847 & Co and Victoria Rose Tearooms. This week we've seen the signs go into the window at Luxford Antiques for a retirement sale and the property is on the market. Wal's biggest problem has been to get stock with the lockdown in Melbourne and at 80 years of age and recovering from a knee replacement retirement is looking good. The post attached is our first go at a Sticky Date Pudding, worked well and tasted great. Think we might have published info on these a few weeks ago. Watch this space. Deliveries into Melbourne are continuing. Give us a call if you need product into Melbourne.
09.01.2022 With dawn breaking and cloudy skys its time to set off to do some deliveries. In the breaking dawn the crabapple tree stands out and is waiting patiently for the bees to get out of bed, hopefully we should get enough crabapples in febuary for our popular crabapple jelly.
09.01.2022 Our last post about the Rosedale oat Crop on Heyfield Road attracted some attention and so it should, I've found an old haystack from between 1910 - 1930 at Bairnsdale from the McBriar family collection.Hillside is out towards Lindenow.
09.01.2022 As we know Regional Victoria is operating as close to normal as is possible under the circumstances. With Melbourne still in Stage 4 lockdown with curfew we at Tarra Valley Foods can help you by delivering our products to you. If you want a delivery send us an email at [email protected] and we can send you a product/price list. Rosedale is open for business.
07.01.2022 The election of a new Wellington Shire Council was finalised today. CENTRAL WARD Ian Bye Scott Rossetti Jill Wood... No of voters 14030 Formal votes 10912 Informal 377 Voter turnout 11289 80.46% COASTAL WARD Garry Stephens Gayle Maher Marcus McKenzie No of voters 12204 Formal votes 8396 Informal 241 Voter turnout 8637 70.77% NORTHERN WARD Malcolm Hole John Tatterson Carrolyn Crossley No of voters 13986 Formal votes 11298 Informal 292 Voter turnout 11590 82.87% Congratulations to all who were successful in gaining a position on Council. We don't always agree on decisions made within the third tier of government (Local Government). If you vote was accepted and counted as a formal vote then you have every right to be critical of decisions made by Council, on the other hand if your vote was Informal and wasted or your did not vote then it is hard to justify how you could be disappointed with anything that Council does. With respect to the two Councillors who were elected for the Northern Ward who live in the Central Ward it is to be hoped that they recognise they are part of a team who are there to use their influence and powers to best benefit Rosedale. Gone are the days where people got onto Council to get the road to their gate sealed!
07.01.2022 I still call Australia home, good to see the number of new cases of Corona Virus in Victoria has dropped to 37 and sadly there have been six more deaths. It could only happen in Australia where it is reported that one of the betting agencies is holding $6500 on when Premier Dan Andrews will resign. Our prediction is that the number of new cases .will increase tomorrow and by Tuesday the figure will be in the low 20's. Who was it said " That Australians will bet on two flies crawling up a wall." Markets show he is at $1.25 to remain past Christmas and $4.00 to leave before then.
06.01.2022 Last year we told you the The Old Bushies said that when small gum trees put up lots of new growth it's going to rain and it did.Well brace yourself for more rain, this is what the small gum trees are doing in the Mullundung Forest at the moment..
04.01.2022 As promised here are some of the photos taken yesterday in Melbourne while doing our deliveries. Could not believe it when we saw the old lamp post. The lacework and the fretwork can only be described as fantastic.Slate tiles on the roof and the detailed brickwork make it stand out.
01.01.2022 Since early this year, we have had to endure lockdowns and many restrictions have been placed on what we can and can't do. Spare a thought for the honey bee and how their life is controlled. The photo is a bee swarm and is often what you see when the bees have outgrown their current hive and the queen will take her faithful crew and leave room for the hive to reproduce a new queen and workers. There is only one queen bee and a single hive may have upwards of 50,000+ bees, so ...you can see that at some point it starts to get a little crowded and not all the bees will have access to the queen any longer and thus not getting her signals from her pheromones. This is the point where worker bees will determine the need for a new queen to be made (another fascinating topic.) Before the new queen emerges, the old queen will take part of the colony with her and scout a new area for her colony. See more
