24.01.2022 Our Year 4 students working with Master Muhktar It was another exciting visit from Master Muhktar Kadiri at Tarrington Lutheran School yesterday! Muhktar reviewed some of his learning intentions from last week and added the A.B.C strategy to self-defence. Students were taught to avoid difficult situations by being aware of their surroundings, to keep calm by breathing deeply and finally to communicate in way that you say what you mean and mean what you say. Students also prac...ticed the ‘5-Star’ blocks and moving to avoid attacks. Students are very much looking forward to next week!

22.01.2022 Our Year 2 class have been learning about materials and properties of materials. The students read a book called "What if my boots were made of paper?" and discussed how different objects are made of certain materials, such as cars wheels are made of rubber, not metal. Students then went outside and investigated objects, listed their properties and as a class reflected on why chosen objects were made from the material. It was such a lovely winters day to investigate and inquire. ~ Mrs Mac

22.01.2022 R U OK?Day R U OK?Day is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? and support those struggling with life's ups and downs. This year's message is 'There's more to say after R U OK?'... While children can't be expected to fix someone’s problems, they can be encouraged to listen to what their friend is saying, show they care and tell a teacher, school counsellor or trusted adult if they are worried about their friend. For adults, you don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener. Start a conversation with these four steps: 1. Ask R U OK? 2. Listen 3. Encourage action 4. Check in

21.01.2022 Year 1 ~ Spring Poetry Miss Sharp and our Year 1 students have been looking at poetry in English. Today they explored acrostic poems, with a Spring theme. They were encouraged to reflect on words and phrases that remind them of Spring. Well done!

19.01.2022 TARRINGTON'S HAY BALES ARE BACK! The town of Tarrington just outside Hamilton usually celebrate their German heritage at the end of each year with the Laternenf...est Festival and a hay bale art competition. This year Laternenfest isn't happening, but the hay bale competition certainly is, and there are some brilliant creations on display. Not surprisingly there's a bit of a COVID theme with a giant toilet paper roll, figures wearing masks, and a huge can of disinfectant. There are also nods to other world events, including a Donald Trump hay bale. You'll also find agricultural themed creations, children's TV characters including Bluey, and a homage to Willie Nelson. Or is that Will-Hay Nelson? The winners will be judged by staff from the Hamilton Gallery, and there's also a people's choice award. The hay bales will be on display throughout December leading up to Christmas, and it's the perfect COVID safe event because you don't even need to get out of your car!

17.01.2022 Science ~ Tornado in a jar Today our Year 5 students experimented to find the most successful way of creating tornados. Their winning recipe included pouring the right ratio of vinegar to dish soap, not too much food colouring and only a touch of glitter.

12.01.2022 Table Tennis Fun Why do table tennis bats have a different colour on each side of the bat? Students from Years 3-6 have been playing table tennis in their lunch time as an optional activity. Thank you to Mr Sanders and Pastor Sam for assisting with this.

12.01.2022 This week the Year 2 class have been learning about volume and capacity. Students have participated in activities including measuring and estimating using formal and informal measurements. Today students had to: Estimate how many teaspoons of pop corn kernels it would take to fill a cup, They then needed to measure and check their estimate.... Once they had a cup of popcorn they needed to follow the procedure to make pop corn. Students needed to estimate how many cups of pop corn 1 cup of pop corn kernels would make. It was a wonderful activity exploring volume and capacity both at school and remote learning.

04.01.2022 Visit from Master Muhktar Today the Year Four and Six classes started a four week Taekwondo program under the direction of Master Muhktar Kadiri from Palace Martial Arts. Muhktar spoke to the students about striving for success, showing respect towards themselves and the people who help them be the best that they can be. He also talked about being confident and being focused on doing things the right way. The students learnt the importance of watching, listening, thinking an...d using the whole body to help take action in a positive way. Some of the basic punches and kicks required for self-defense were also practised. The students were impressed with Muhktar’s skill and wisdom and how he attempted to make learning fun. It was Muhktar’s first ever visit to Tarrington Lutheran school and the students themselves left quite an impression on him. Upon leaving Muhktar spoke of how engaged all the students were and also how keen they were to participate and follow direction.

02.01.2022 Today we were lucky enough to receive correspondence from a former student, Audrey Hoffmann. We’re sure our TLS and Tarrington community will enjoy reading Audreys wonderful story. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was a student at your school during the 1940’s when my father Bill Hoffmann owned the local store.... Attached is a story I have recently written about fund raising efforts so that new books could be purchased for The Tarrington Lutheran School library. This story has just been published in a book SENIOR STORIES 2020 by ABLE AUSTRLIA In the attached photo I am in the back row on the right. I hope you will enjoy reading it. Audrey Hoffmann
