14.01.2022 LIZ WAUCHOPE has a continuing interest in Sustainable Couture, and many of her garments are made from upcycled materials. She has two new coats in TArts gallery right now, made in conjunction with her friend Naina Devi. The two work together to transform secondhand clothing and materials, with Liz painting, printing and dyeing the fabrics, and Naina constructing the outfits. The coat on the left below is made from an old damask tablecloth. It was plain white so Liz dyed it using the Arashi Shibori method of wrapping it around a pole and dipping it in a vat of natural Indigo. The coat on the right was made from a white bedspread from India, which was delicately handsewn in reverse applique. Liz dyed it in two tones, using natural Indigo.

05.01.2022 Rosi Gates Birds of a Feather window display in TArts Gallery will showcase textile art works (both 2D and 3D) from 28 September. Pelicans are a common sight along our coast and waterways and capture my imagination. The wall pieces in this display depict pelicans doing pelican-like things - capturing their character and quirkiness. I use my domestic sewing machine, fabric and thread as my painting medium to create these images on canvas. The delicate little fairy wren m...akes a good counterpoint to the pelican. Wrens delight me with their energetic antics in my garden so I have created a colourful collection of little 3D wrens to flit about the window watched over by a more sedate 3D pelican. -- See more

03.01.2022 Catherine Hewitt shares a window display this month with Debby Haskard-Strauss Catherine says "This current body of work is in response to my artist residency a...t Curtin Springs earlier this year. Curtin Springs is a very large cattle station in Yulara NT. They also make paper from the native grasses having converted an old abattoir into a papermaking workshop. I have used some of this paper in combination with my own in some of this new work. This landscape is rich and extraordinary in all that is visible and not! Colours, shapes and textures; rock and landscape formations; gorgeous animal tracks and the complete absence of surface water. All was inspiring." www.tartscollective.com.au
