25.01.2022 This is a great little article about menopause and the weight gain/redistribution that most ladies experience. It highlights an important message for ladies, especially those approaching meno. Weight training creates muscle mass that increases our resting metabolic rate. Therefore, preserving and even gaining muscle, can help to prevent weight gain as we age.

18.01.2022 I'M BACK AT THE GYM YOU GUYS YEOW. I'll be back seeing clients at the gym starting Saturday 6th June as we had to take a short break due to COVID! Did you know I see Rucci's gym clients there but also members of the public that have nothing to do with the gym. It's a convenient location for those of you that live further NOR. We have a new InBody Body Scan system at the gym now which is a super fancy scale that measures height, muscle mass, body fat percentage and other cool ...stuff like that. This service is included free with your nutrition consult there if you are keen. Here's a picture of me in my kitchen, because I don't have a picture of me at the gym. And here's a picture of somebody's half naked husband with the new InBody Scanner at the gym .

14.01.2022 Agree with this statement. Think you have a problem with gluten? Eliminating it can actually make you worse off because you are losing fibre, plants and diversity in your diet. I am a nutritionist of INCLUSION rather than EXCLUSION. Excluding foods from your diet will make you susceptible to nutrient deficiencies and probably make your gut health worse, making you MORE likely to acquire additional food intolerances over time. Think gluten causes intestinal permeability or 'l...eaky gut'? I think you have your science wrong. If you think you have a food intolerance, let's talk about why and what investigations you have had done. Perhaps we need to work on the health of your gut.... There's a lot of gluten free stuff on my page because I am Coeliac, I have a clear problem with gluten - that's a bit (heaps) different to an intolerance.

11.01.2022 Cooking this for dinner tonight. Herby and fresh and delicious. But I made a few tweaks...... TWEAKS FOR GUT HEALTH two leeks instead of one. Potent prebiotics fibres here - fructooligosaccharides and inulin which promote the growth of gut bugs associated with good health. tricolour quinoa instead of white quinoa. This gives me 3 plants rather than one. Encouraging diversity of the microbiome. ... bone broth because cooking chicken carcasses overnight is exciting for me . You do you boo. See more

08.01.2022 So much yes for this

08.01.2022 Ok I have a super spunky logo now. Tell me, what do you think? Thankyou to my beautiful and talented friend, Constanze from CK Graphic Design for doing such an amazing job!!

05.01.2022 Having problems sleeping? Let's talk about food sources of melatonin - one of our sleep hormones. Did you know pistachios are a stand out source of bioactive melatonin? Melatonin concentration in human serum can significantly increase after consuming melatonin rich foods and pistachios record the highest amount of melatonin to date.... They would make a nice snack before bed and may help with sleep. Be mindful of the salt content (when buying them roasted and salted) but be aware that they are actually a good source potassium (the highest source of all tree nuts). They also boast many colours which your gut loves. Green, yellow and purple - half the rainbow! What's not clear from the research is how much you need to eat to see any effect on your sleep. From my calculations it could be anywhere from 6 pistachio nuts daily (yielding 1g of melatonin). Source: Meng et al, 2017, 'Dietary Sources and Bioactivities of Melatonin', Nutrients, pp. 1-64.

04.01.2022 Some interesting points: You can refreeze meat that's been defrosted!!! Yes!!! It may lose some quality and become watery, as freezing makes cells break down. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge safely unless you are pregnant, elderly or immune compromised.... Reheat leftovers well. It needs to be hot.

04.01.2022 Ok. Yum. Just add your frozen veg! This would make a great meal prep food to serve up for lunches for some of the week. Remember rice only lasts 4 days in the fridge.

02.01.2022 VITAMIN A/RETINOL Vitamin A is ONLY found in animal foods: white meat, red meat, eggs and dairy. Provitamin A is found in plants and converts in the body to vitamin A/retinol. Carotenoids are a type of provitamin A that have the highest conversion into retinol. Carotenoids are plant pigments responsible for bright red, yellow and orange hues such as carrots and oranges.... Conversion of provitamin A to retinol is not guaranteed! It relies on a number of factors: - Your zinc and iron status. - Your status of B2 and B3. These vitamins can be hard to get from food and are found highest in dairy. Omit dairy and you may have a problem. - Low fat diets impair Vitamin A as Vitamin A is fat soluble. Vitamin A deficiencies normally presents with poor immune function, inflammation, problems with eyes, skin and mood. Do you have rough skin around hair follicles on the back of your arms, inner thighs, lower back and abdomen? You may need to consider dietary changes and incorporate more vitamin A rich foods. We need to be careful when supplementing with Vitamin A as there is cumulative toxicity due to it's fat solubility. Please speak to your nutritionist or doctor x

01.01.2022 Has anyone successfully healed their cavities with dietary changes alone? As diet is implicated in the creation of dental carries (cavities), dietary changes can heal them up!! Do you have a mouth full of fillings? Do you need to assess your diet?
