15.01.2022 NATIONALS UPDATE: As many of you have noted, the NOR and entries for the 2021 Tasar National Championships to be held in Paynesville Victoria, have not yet been... made available due to border restrictions within Australia and in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Australian Tasar Council together with the Tasar Association of Victoria and regatta organising committee are constantly monitoring the COVID-19 situation and resulting border restrictions. A review will be conducted at the conclusion of the current restrictions in Victoria (13 September 2020), with a final decision as to whether the event will proceed as planned to be communicated in October 2020. Among other criteria, the final review will take into account fair access to competitors from other states. We appreciate your patience during these challenging times. Nicole Kidman ATC President

15.01.2022 The penultimate day of racing at the 2020 Sabre Nationals at the Wallaroo Sailing Club was over before it started, with gusts of up to 30 knots forcing the ra...ce committee to pull the pin for the day. But it was a good chance to delve into a few of the unique stories from the event, like Western Australian Scott Olsen who overcame some major travel mishaps due to the Nullarbor bushfires to make it to the event. 13.01.2022 What a cracking day to wrap up the Australian Tasars Nationals at the Largs Bay Sailing Club with a roaring Adelaide sea breeze. James and Tara Burman on Little... Miss Magic capped off a stellar regatta with two race wins to end up with a convincing championship victory, while many other sailors also walked away happy celebrating a great event with their close friends and family. #downundersail #wherethefargislargs

13.01.2022 As a part of the 2020/21 season planning, the Tasar Association of South Australia is conducting a survey of all SA Tasar sailors. The results of this survey will be used to put together a great season and attract new sailors to the class. We would like the feedback of all Tasar sailors including skippers and crews, past, present and future. So please fill it out and pass it around.

12.01.2022 Congratulations to our State Champions Stuart and Nicole. Also congratulations to our State Champ runners up, Kym and Karen. And thank you to all our members who came along today for our AGM and Presentation luncheon at the Cruising Yacht Club. So wonderful to see all our friends again!

12.01.2022 Dear Australian Tasar sailors, In light of the evolving COVID-19 situation, the Australian Tasar Council Inc. in conjunction with the Tasar Association of Weste...rn Australia (TAWA) and the Organising Authority (OA) Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club (MOFSC) have decided to cancel the 47th Tasar Nationals which were to take place in Mandurah, Western Australia in April 2020. While this has been a very difficult decision to make, the health and safety of our sailors, volunteers, officials and supporters must be our first priority. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the tireless efforts of the TAWA and the support received from regatta partners. The ATC look forward to supporting a national championship again in WA in the near future. Please refer to the official statement from the OA, MOFSC. This week Australian Tasars 'casts' back in time to NATS Port Stephens 2017! It was an Event which attracted not only 81 entries, but dolphins & giant jellyfish plus a 'fill in crew' who just happened to be Rio's Olympic Laser Gold Medallist TOM BURTON (ref 1st pic attch'd)!! Setting the scene for the Regatta week was beautiful Salamander Bay/Soldiers Pt at Nelson Bay PORT STEPHENS, 3hrs nth of Sydney. Predominantly light-mod S/SE's saw crews enjoy 10 great races which were conducted under the expert local guidance of race officials from Port Stephens Sailing & Aquatic Club Inc. & Port Stephens Yacht Club. This Race Committee, incl Sydney's PRO Jeremey Atkinson constructed a program a little different to Class norm. The 10 heats were broken up into 6 qualifying races in 'Blue & Red' ribboned fleets, completed with 4 final heats in Gold & Silver DIVS. It proved highly successful! RESULTS below, but firstly here's a couple of 'flashback' links: * Story Write-up, incl additional link to Beth Morley's Sport Sailing Photography 's full action photos of Race Days 3-5 (samples attch'd to this post!) http://www.tasar.org//upcoming-events/2017/01/port-stephen * Fiona Powell's fab 4+ min video collating delightful footage of the week from her vantage points on Start Boat & Ribs https://youtu.be/lGfmvDowgco RESULTS What is so refreshing about our Class is that competition is provided at all levels AND it doesn't matter if you're in the top or bottom half, as there's always plenty of prizes & giveaways to practically all participants over bickies, beers & bubbles. Narrowing down our 44th Aust Title 'Gold DIV' champions however, with exceptional heat results from our eventual winners Rob & Nic DOUGLASS, here were the TOP 5! 1st - Rob & Nic DOUGLASS (NSW) 17 2nd - Rick LONGBOTTOM & Darryl BENTLEY (RANSA) 21 3rd - Craig MCPHEE & Gill BERRY (SA) 22 4th - Paul & Bronwyn RIDGWAY (VIC) 29 5th - Heather MACFARLANE & Chris PAYNE (VIC) 31 Full SCR & DIV Flashback Results below http://sailingresults.com.au//Templa/Qual-Blank/index.php Well that's it again for this week until #TasarArchives returns soon with another FB Post trip down memory lane. Until then stay fit & stayed tuned!! :) Jen

04.01.2022 For those who, like Mika pictured, don't feel the cold ... Just two winter sailing dates remain for this season. This Sunday 28 June we're currently looking at ...a mild sunny day with about 9 knots NW forecast, so if you were put off by the miserable forecast two weeks back, here's your chance to get back on the water. Briefing 12:30 for race start around 1:00pm. The third and final race day is scheduled for 12 July - more details to come.

03.01.2022 Thank you for everyone who completed our recent survey, we had a great response. We have just about got this season's program ready to go and will publish it as soon as we finalise the last few details. We will also be sharing the results from the survey before the start of the season, so keep an eye out if your interested.

03.01.2022 Meet Our TASAR FAMILY Welcome all to our brand new series on Australian Tasars where we check out the #tasarlifeandtimes of one of our happy Class sailor...s NOTE the answers to our last 'WHO WHAT WHERE' follows further below. A big thanks to everyone who followed the segment & joined in its #QuizTime fun!! our 'Tasarite in Review' this week is .. NICOLE KIDMAN ~ current President of the Australia Tasar Council Here's her story .. Photos supplied by Nicole & Stu ~~~ ".. I went for my first sail with uncle (late) Duncan Robertson in May 1995 on the promise that if I liked it, I could crew for him at the world champs in Cascade Locks in the USA in 1996. I did love it and crewed for him in the USA and 25 years later, I’m still sailing Tasars. I think my first regatta was the Jervis Bay regatta in 1995 which back then was sailed at HMAS Creswell. I met Stu at the 2004 Tasar nationals in Mission Beach QLD, he was sailing with Libby Collins for the NT, and I sailed with Shane Guanaria for NSW. Stu and Shane were already great mates back then and went on to be on another’s groomsman at their respective weddings (Nic Douglass was also my bridesmaid). Our first real date was in a Tasar, sailing from Darwin Sailing Club to the famous sandbar for a picnic. Stu and I have been together since mission beach and bought our first Tasar in November 2004 (Hair of the Dog which we later sold to Pete and Pia! * Balmoral SC sailors) when he moved to Sydney. Stu proposed to me in our Tasar (hair of the dog) at the Jervis Bay regatta (Callala Bay in 2007). We also married up in Darwin on that same sandbar in the presence of many Tasar sailors in 2008. A month later we bought a new Tasar and called her Oogy Wawa which was named after the theme of our wedding (cheers in different languages - Oogy Wawa was cheers in the African dialect of zulu). think I became social secretary for TANSW around 2006 and then president in 2010. We moved to Adelaide in 2011 and I became president of the TASA from 2013/2015. Currently ATC President since January 2017 (nearly 4 years). Stu has been ATC national measurer for nearly 12 years. Lastly, I have sailed in 11 x Tasar world champs and only didn’t do #12 in the UK as we had another young baby.. 'Was fun looking back !, Nicole x " THANKS too to Nicole!! .. who has been the instigator for our posts over the past few months. She performs a brilliant job as our National President, devoting her love & time to our Class, including (how can we forget) putting Tasar Regatta moments together in those fun filled #oogywawa videos! Cheers!! ~~~~ 'WHO WHAT WHERE' Last post we featured 5 photos from 5 different time periods & 4 different countries. Again thanks for your answers identifying 4 of them (missing only our Oz based photo!).. They were indeed: Pic1 - Shane Guanaria & Craig McPhee 'turfing' winning skipper, Robbie Douglass at WORLD'S Wakayama Bay JAPAN, 2009 Pic2 - US's & recent NthAmer NATS Champs Jay & Lisa RENEHAN at WORLD'S Hayling Is UK, 2019 (on that 'wild windy Wedn'!) Pic3 - Rod & Maureen PORTEOUS at UK NATS Whitstable, 2016 (an event which also saw extremely windy conditions!) Pic4 - John Balass & Heather Forton (latter' current COMMDR Balmoral SC) blasting off a wave during Club races out on Middle Harbour, Sydney Pic5 - Martin Linsley & Nick Grey also undertaking radical speeds , at WORLDS CAN Victoria BC, 2003 ~~~ Enjoy your weekend's everyone as we look forward to bringing you more #Tasarfamilymemoirs next time on Australian Tasars!! :)

02.01.2022 The fourth day of racing at the 2020 Sabre Nationals at Wallaroo Sailing Club was not the traditional conditions often seen in this part of the world, with ho...t weather and fickle winds. Only one race was sailed before the day was called off with the race committee unable to set a course in the difficult conditions. Video by Down Under Sail

02.01.2022 Unfortunately the Tasar Association in conjunction with Somerton Yacht Club have decided to cancel this weekends round of the state titles. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Strong Wind Warning issued for Saturday. The forecast is for NW 20 knots with a sea state of 1 to 2m in the morning followed by a Westerly front early afternoon of 20 to 30 knots with a sea state of 2 to 3m. There has also been thunderstorms forecast for late morning and early afternoon on Saturday.... While there currently hasn't been a warning issued for Sunday the forecast is for the Westerly to keep on blowing at 20 to 30 knots overnight and through the day with 2 to 2.5m seas. Taking into account this forecast and class wind limits, we feel our opportunity for racing is very low. With such a low chance of racing and the potential danger to volunteers and sailors not to mention members travelling some distance to get to our event we feel the best option is to cancel this round of the state titles. This has been a tough decision and the committee will keep you updated about our next round at Goolwa Aquatic Centre.

01.01.2022 ALL SYSTEMS GO! We are underway at the Brighton & Seacliff Yacht Club for Day 1 of Sail Brighton, as part of the Harken SA Summer of Sail Festival. With a soli...d breeze forecast competitors are starting to roll in for what is shaping up to be some of best conditions Brighton has to offer. Feel like you're missing out? It's not too late to enter! Come and see Harry at the Regatta Desk, Day Passes available every day.
