25.01.2022 15 May 2018 | Commemorating the second year anniversary since the opening of the Two Guardian Lions and Four Heavenly Devas statues. We are sincerely grateful for the generous support we have received along the whole journey, and continue to receive from the local community, as well as nationally and internationally. The Academy is still working hard in realising the dream of establishing the Cultural Park, and has submitted relevant documentation and continues to work clos...ely with the Council and related professionals to achieve this. We are open to feedback and suggestionsboth positive or negativeso please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at any time.

23.01.2022 A wonderful celebration of the Australian Teo Chew Association’s 30th anniversary, held in Sydney a few weeks ago. Attended by various respected Chinese community leaders as well as politicians, including the His Excellency Consul General Gu Xiaojie, from the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney; NSW Minister for Multiculturalism, the Hon. Ray Williams MP; and NSW Legislative Council member, the Hon. Mark Coure MLC, over 400 guests enjoyed a celebrato...ry banquet, which also featured cultural performances. Master Wang especially flew to Sydney to congratulate Frank Chou OAM, the founding president of the Association, as well as their current board and committee members, on their spirited and longstanding committed efforts in the promotion of Chinese culture among the western society. In the words of the Consul-General: there has never been a more important time to strengthen the ties between Australia and China. In particular, this year is a very significant year for the Sino-Australia relationship and one worth celebrating, as it is the 200th anniversary of China migration to the country.

23.01.2022 The 2018 Lunar New Year Festival was held on the Parliament Lawns last Sunday. Hosted by Chinese Community Association of Tasmania, record crowds joined in the festivities, which provides an opportunity for the showcase of Asian cuisine, culture and customs. Congratulations to James Morris Lee and the organising committee of the Chinese Community Association of Tasmania Chinese New Year Festival, as well as all volunteers, stallholders and sponsors that contributed to such a successful event.

23.01.2022 Happy Lunar New Year to our friends near and far! This year is the 'Xin Chou' Year of the Golden Ox. According to Chinese astrology, this year will be one where the heaven and earth have great transformations. 'Xin Chou' is a time space concept within the Lunar calendar 'Xin' symbolises gold and prosperity, while 'Chou' represents ox and hard work. Here's hoping the golden ox brings about transformation to alleviate the global pandemic that has affected all of us in varying degrees. While we may not be celebrating together this year at events across Hobart like previous years, we wish you and yours, near and far, a happy year of the golden ox, auspiciousness and perfection, good health in the body and mind, and success in your endeavours!

21.01.2022 In early July, Master Wang returned to China to attend the 4th Global Chinese Influence Festival, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the economic reform and opening up of China, held at Beijing International Convention Centre. At the event, Master Wang was selected as one of the top 40 global influential Chinese over the last 40 years for his long-lasting contribution to the dissemination and inheritance of Chinese Buddhism, especially overseas. In making the trip back to Beijing, Master Wang made many new friends, and reunited with old friends, including famous Chinese scholars and painters.

13.01.2022 Marking the Great War’s centennial, the Friends of Soldiers Memorial Avenue (FOSMA) hosted a major commemorative event in early August at the Soldiers Memorial Oval in Hobart. Aside from the official party comprising of Lieutenant Governor of Tasmania His Excellency Alan Blow AO, Hobart Lord Mayor Alderman Ron Christie, Direction of the Australian War Memorial, Dr. Brendan Nelson AO, and representative of the Tasmanian Aboriginal community Brenda Hodge, the event was also att...ended by many political and community VIPs, including descendants of soldiers and ex-service organisations, as well as students from local schools. The memories and heroic efforts of more than 500 fallen soldiers from the Great War are represented by more than 500 cedar trees, planted along the Soldiers Memorial Avenue, which runs 1.3 km from the Hobart aquatic centre to the Soldier’s Oval at Queens Domain. The Academy also attended to pay our respects and honour those who have served for Australia, our second motherland. The event was commemorated with the official party planting a tree during the centenary commemoration.

06.01.2022 Four years ago today, we welcomed more than 1,000 people to celebrate the opening of the Stone Lions and Four Great Heavenly Deva statues at Tea Tree. Since then, we've continued to work in the background, and are thrilled that earlier this year, our rezoning application for the proposed Tasmanian Chinese Cultural Park of Australia was approved by the Tasmanian Planning Commission. A lot more work and preparation (and approvals) lie ahead, however we take the milestone as an encouragement for us to work harder, to bring our vision to life. We are thankful for the support we have had, along what has been a very long journey thus far, but one that is well worth working for. Meanwhile, we hope that our friends near and far are staying well and safe - and are remaining positive amid the uncertain times

06.01.2022 Vale Dr Vanessa Goodwin, thank you for our longstanding friendship and for your support towards the Academy. You will be greatly missed. On behalf of Master Wang and all members of the Academy, we send our sincere condolences to Vanessa’s family, colleagues and friends.

05.01.2022 The Academy hosted its Chinese New Year banquet at Wrest Point on 16 February - the first day of the Wu Xu Year (literal interpretation as the ‘Earth Dog’). People from all walks of life, including politicians, community leaders and volunteers, local and international visitors, as well as new and old friends joined to ring in the new year. While the Year of the Dog is likely to bring challenges, but where there are challenges, there are also opportunities. A special thank you to House of Dance (HOD), Flamenkisimo Sydney (who flew down especially from Sydney for the event) and Shan Deng for treating our guests to such entertaining performances. We thank each and every one who attended, and for sharing the first day of the Wu Xu Year of the Dog with us. Your support is very much appreciated.
