16.01.2022 Coming to Tasmania? Register online before you travel. Travellers from low-risk areas (ACT, NSW, NT, QLD, SA, WA, & NZ) can register their details through the Tas e-Travel system. Public Health has advised that Victoria (VIC) will be classified as a medium risk area from Friday 13 November 2020.... From Friday, travellers who have spent time (during the 14 days before arriving in Tasmania) in VIC will still be required to quarantine upon arrival in Tasmania, but may be permitted to undertake their quarantine at home or approved suitable premises. The G2G pass system is the most effective way to provide information about an intended quarantine location. Pending Public Health advice, Victoria will be classified as a Low-risk Area from November 27. Prior to November 13, travellers from VIC are still classified as coming from a high risk area and will need to begin their quarantine in government-designated accommodation (a quarantine fee may apply).

09.01.2022 STUDENT SAFETY Please distribute this information through your networks to help raise awareness and keep students safe. Background... Students have been contacted through a phone call from someone usually speaking in Mandarin and claiming to be a representative from a Chinese authority. The caller convinces the victim that they have been implicated in a crime in China, and that they must pay a fee to avoid legal action. The victim is then threatened or coerced into transferring large amounts of money into unknown offshore bank accounts. In some instances, victims are convinced to fake their own kidnappings known as a ‘virtual kidnapping’. When the victim’s family is unable to establish contact with their child in Australia, they send large ransom payments in exchange for their ‘release’. Police have asked students who feel they may have been targeted to contact the Chinese Consulate or Embassy, and report the incident to police. This could happen to anyone from any background. If you feel something is not right the first person to talk to is your local police officer. Do not follow instructions from someone you do not know. Be alert, keep safe.
