25.01.2022 Teacher aides rise up - a win for job security! United Workers Union teacher aides had a major UNION WIN in a Townsville School recently. Temporary teacher aides were devastated to find out that their school had cancelled temporary contracts of long term teacher aides only to replace them with new employees. Given the current jobs crisis as a result of the COVID-19, there was great concern for these teacher aides and their families. Members acted quickly and demonstrated a u...nited front to protect the jobs security of these teacher aides during these uncertain times. Within days the school had responded to the members demands and reinstated all of the aides. UWU Delegate Chris O’Donnell said, "A team that stands together, wins together". Don’t compromise your job security by not being a member of United Workers Union. If you know someone you work with is not a member yet, ask them to join United Workers by calling 1800 065 885 or visiting unitedworkers.org.au/join. See more

24.01.2022 Pollies Pledge! Twenty-three Labor MPs recently signed a pledge to keep public services in public hands under the watchful eye of United Workers Union representatives from a range of occupations including teacher aides, school cleaners, ambulance officers and health clinical assistants. As we head into the state election, many of our members remember all too painfully how the last LNP State Government cut and outsourced thousands of jobs across the public sector. Pictured her...e representing Teacher Aides and School Cleaners are members Julie and Yolanda with a few of the MPs who signed the pledge outside parliament. The pledge read: "I pledge to oppose outsourcing of frontline health, education and ambulance services. I pledge to fight for all frontline ambulance, health and education workers to remain directly employed by the Queensland Government."

14.01.2022 Will your local Candidate or MP stand behind Teacher Aides and School Cleaners by signing our pledge? Make sure you get together in your school (like these members did at Rockhampton North Special School) to call on your local Candidate or MP to sign a pledge to keep your employment conditions safe.

11.01.2022 Congratulations to Redlands District Special School Teacher Aide Delegates Robina Jones & Bec Browne who signed up TEN new members at their union meeting last week. They both spent the days before the meeting finding out exactly who wasn’t a member, seeking them out and talking to them about the importance of joining when the meeting took place. Many already had forms completed before the meeting. This is how it is done!! If you have a union visit coming up over the comin...g days or weeks please take note and do the same! Depending on what happens with Covid situation & the State election, it could be your last opportunity to ensure your union at school is the strongest it possibly can be for some time so make it count. Robina & Bec, you’ve done your members proud, a super human effort!

06.01.2022 GREAT NEWS! In what’s been hailed as one of the biggest investments in teaching in Queensland’s history, the Palaszczuk Government has announced it will hire 1139 new Teacher Aides and 6190 teachers over the next four years if re-elected.

03.01.2022 Show your appreciation this Teacher Aide Appreciation week. We celebrate their passion and contribution, but most importantly we say "Thank You" for all the hard work they do for their school.
