25.01.2022 Humans of Launceston, the wait is over! It’s time to make your Drag dreams a reality in the first ‘How to Drag’ Workshop at Tasdance. FRIDAY 23.10.20 6:00-7:30pm 197 WELLINGTON STREET... Your host Trey L’Trash will guide you through trips and tricks of drag makeup, ignite your individualised creative flame and boost your performative skills in an event which will culminate in a whole group lip-sync show! The workshop is open to people of all genders, identities and expressions! Bring along the makeup you would like to use, a mirror, some shoes (can be heels or flats) and any costumes, wigs or jewellery you would like to play with. There will also be a limited selection of sanitised wigs and costumes that you are more than welcome to borrow on the night. You will have the opportunity to learn how to lip-sync like a pro, so be sure to have a song you would like to workshop in mind! #tasdance #tasdanceprofessionaldevelopment #tasmaniandance #drag #tasmaniandrag

24.01.2022 Weve had the pleasure of having Isabella Stone in residence this week as part of her Makers Residency. Izzy was part of the Makers Strategy from 2018-19 and has received four weeks of paid residency time to be used as she wishes. Below are some beautiful and honest thoughts about being in the studio, in practice and as a teacher/student. We hope your time Izzy has been valuable and look forward to having you here again soon. Part 1. This week has been about digestion I ...think. Of homesickness, challenge, change and learning. Its been a slower week full of reflection and the privilege of moving everyday, be that a lot or a little bit. Before I arrived I had a very old story running in my head about my exceptions of creating, being a dancer/performer/maker, it feels like a true trust in the slips between not knowing and knowing has landed. Ive realised how much the conversation between the experience of spending most of this year facilitating a space for movement and play (even if sometimes through an abundance of typing about it) has clarified how I engage with moving. 20.01.2022 Gabriel Comerford will be joining us to teach a Repertoire session during the Spring Intensive, running at the studio from 28th September. Gabriel is an Australian-Malaysian man and independent artist with over 10 years professional experience as a maker and performer. Having spent the majority of his career based in Brisbane, in recent years he has relocated to Launceston, Tasmania. He is a founding member of MakeShift Dance Collective and is currently working with Tasdance ...and Stompin Youth Dance Company in a varying range of capacities. He thrives off working across disciplines and is constantly seeking to challenge and extend himself. Whilst his practice is rooted in dance, his experiences have allowed him to learn from and incorporate elements of physical theatre, object theatre, puppetry, visual-arts, site-specific, Butoh, Suzuki integrated practice, installation and durational performance. His interest lies in collaboration and the creative process; sifting through first impressions to expose the core of the theme or concepts at hand. He has an inquisitive mind, a powerful physicality and a captivating stage presence. Currently he is working to bring elements of his arts, ritual and spiritual practices together to create and hold, sharing and healing spaces for people.
