24.01.2022 A great article in yesterdays The Examiner Newspaper, Launceston about our Executive Officer Andi Lucas' side-project X-Hemp. The purchase of the States first mobile hemp processing unit which will result in licensed growers of low-THC cannabis in Tasmania having the ability to convert their grain stubble after harvesting the hemp seed into saleable products. This business case was created by the THA with the support of our valued Corporate Member, the The Australian Hemp Ma...sonry Company, and is a great example of how our association uses the support we receive from our awesome Grower, Corporate, Associate and Supporter Members to effect real change in the industry. If you want to be part of this effort, please contact us to learn how to join our ranks so we can continue to lobby more effectively and support and encourage more great initiatives like this one! 0499 244 367 or [email protected]
24.01.2022 Our Executive Officer is on a bit of a health kick, and has roped her entire immediate family - Mum, Dad, brother, sister, nephew and niece - into joining her on the 14-day Conscious Cleanse. One of the many yummy daily smoothie recipes called for hemp seeds, which were kindly provided by The Tassie Hemp Shop (a business owned and operated by our association President and his family). The votes are in - even from the 7-year old and 5-year old - and we're all calling this one a super healthy, really tasty hemptastic success!
23.01.2022 Next Friday 21st August 2020 is the date of our annual event day, which will be held at The Tramsheds Function Centre in Launceston. Kicking off at 1pm with our Annual General Meeting (which is open to the public and has been advertised as per our Constitution), we then have a General Meeting for all voting members at 2pm, then the Top Crop Session for our Grower and Corporate Members at 3pm, before kicking up our heels at the ticketed Annual Awards Dinner starting from 6pm. We are all looking forward to the event, and are excited to see many of you there. If you haven't yet RSVP'd, please give our Executive Officer Andi Lucas a call or email to let her know if you'll be there too!
18.01.2022 It really has been blow-our-hair-back busy at the THA over this past month, with SO many exciting things afoot! You can read all about it here... http://bit.ly/THAeNewsAug2020
18.01.2022 There is a huge and growing amount of interest in using hemp as a building material. This recent video made by Matt from Risinger Build - featuring the expert crew fromHempitecturee - is a brilliant introduction for those interested in how this incredible product works. Our Executive Officer Andi Lucas will be building four small hempcrete cottages over the next year under the guidance of THA Corporate Members The Australian Hemp Masonry Company, and will be looking to invo...lve our new Corporate Members Vos Construction & Joinery P/L in that process so our association can continue working to find more ways to incorporate environmentally friendly, locally grown materials into end-products that create local jobs. While there is great work already being done around Australia by folk like Hemp Homes Australia in WA, and The Hemp Building Company company in Victoria, there is much more that can be done, and the THA is excited to be playing their part in moving things forward here on the little island. Hemp-lime construction is truly amazing, and the more we all learn and work together to build the industry, the better! https://youtu.be/cm23l_VLyp4
16.01.2022 Our Executive Officer Andi Lucas shared some of her personal views about hemp in Tasmania in an article that was published in The Examiner Newspaper, Launceston yesterday. As a relative newcomer to our industry - having only been involved in all things hemp for the past 18-months and in her part-time role with the THA since January this year - Andi is passionate about supporting the elected Board in their work, and doing what she can to assist all of our Grower, Associate, ...and Corporate Members, as well as any interested community members who want to know more about industrial cannabis. If you want to learn more about what our state association does, or get involved with helping us develop this exciting industry, please drop us a note or give us a call :) https://www.examiner.com.au//industrial-hemp-is-not-pot-c/
16.01.2022 Some incredibly exciting and industry-changing news as ECS Botanics announced its plans to develop an outdoor medicinal cannabis project in Tasmania. ECS Founder Alexander Keach serves as a volunteer on our elected Board and is making huge moves to move things forward in Australia. You can read all about it in this article by our mates over at The Green Fund :)
15.01.2022 Our Executive Officer Andi Lucas was delighted to be invited as a guest speaker by the Rotary Club of Longford last night by her old family friend and GP Dr Tim Flanagan. There's not much Andi enjoys more than a bit of a social gathering, having a beer and a natter with interesting folks, all while taking an opportunity to present a brief presentation on the reasons she decided to start a career in the world of hemp, and being able to share just a handful of the many amazing ...facts she has learned about this incredible crop over the past year or two. The robust Q&A at the end of the speech was such good fun, and Andi and her parents were made to feel very welcome by all the Rotarians present. You can read a version of the speech here: https://tasmanianhempassociation.org.au/a-whistle-stop-int/
14.01.2022 The THA is very proud to be hosting the third biennial Australian Industrial Hemp Conference in Launceston in March, 2022, and are delighted to see that this year's event just won the Cannabis Industry Awards 'Event of the Year 2020'. Our Executive Officer Andi Lucas attended the event in Fremantle, WA earlier this year, and had a fantastic time as both a guest of the Industrial Hemp Western Australia Association Inc. and in her capacity of official representative of HempToda...y magazine. Andi lobbied hard with the assistance of many others including industry heavyweight Phil Warner and THA Corporate Member Midlands to secure the next event in Tasmania, the state that is currently producing 80% of the nation's hemp. We are thrilled to be working with the conference founder Robert Bell and joint-sponsor Australian Industrial Hemp Alliance to show the rest of the country and the world what we're doing down here on the island in 18-months time. The pressure is on to do just as great a job as our counterparts out West, and to make sure we carry away the trophy in 2022 :)
12.01.2022 There is really never a dull moment in the world of industrial hemp, and you can read all about the Tasmanian perspective below... http://bit.ly/THAeNewsSept2020
11.01.2022 We love seeing news of what we're getting up to on the little island make its way out to the world! The THA is very proud to support the important research being undertaken by the genius minds at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture alongside our mates at AgriFutures Australia.
08.01.2022 Here at the THA, we are constantly looking into different ways for our Grower Members to add value to their hemp crops and get more reliable returns. We're very proud to be sponsoring important research like @TasInAg student Hannah Cummins' project investigating the effects of growth regulators on hemp, as seen in an article published in last weeks @TasmanianFarmer newspaper :)
07.01.2022 It's been another incredibly busy month for us, and here is where you can read all about it :) https://bit.ly/THAeNewsJuly2020
02.01.2022 The THA is very proud to be supporting this project, which was based on a business case our Board Members put together and is now being led by our own Executive Officer Andi Lucas. The X-Hemp venture a perfect example of the way our association puts the hard-earned grower levies and membership fees to work, creating real and immediate improvements to the low-THC cannabis industry in Tasmania. If you want to know more about supporting this project or becoming a member of our association, you can find all the information you'll need on our website www.TasmanianHempAssociation.org.au
