19.01.2022 Almost 15 years of teaching kids yoga/yoga in schools .... working with young people has been my greatest challenge and greatest joy. I’m so thrilled that so many schools are embracing yoga and meditation into their programs now and hundreds of kids are receiving the benefits of the yogic tools and techniques that lead to a healthy self relationship I’m opening up some space now to mentor teens in meditation. Contact me for more info.
19.01.2022 I walk every day, at least once/day, with my two dogs. I am fortunate enough to live near a lake, which is bordered by a wonderful reserve of native bushland and leads onto a world-class beach. I walk alongside the lake through the bush, to the beach and back. It takes about 45 minutes. I never take my phone or take pictures... this is my sacred time to be with me, nature and my dogs. The daily walk is like vital nutrients for the nourishment of my soul. Essential vitamins t...o keep my holistically well. Today, being a Sunday, I have a more spacious schedule and could take my walk a little more leisurely. I was in deep engagement with nature... listening to the bird song, the ocean waves, my footsteps, the rhythm of my dogs panting breath; seeing colours of nature; the water droplets which had settled from last nights rain, glistening on the leaves. I was in a beautiful state of inner delight and wonder; feeling calm and relaxed and soothed. As we approached the on-leash zone, I reached down to pat my dog and fix the lead to her collar. Instantly I gasped in horror, shock, disgust. She had seemingly rolled in something repulsive, foul, pungent. The smell was overwhelming and the offensive matter was smeared over my hand. The change of my mood, my inner state, was instantaneous. I was repulsed. I was shaken. I quickly realised that I had a choice. I could return to the pleasant mood of calm, deep engagement.... or slip into trauma and despair, or otherwise ! I decided to go deeper into the feeling of repulsion. Deeper. It felt vivid, vibrant ... it felt alive. I felt shocked into aliveness. It was fun! It was funny. I then chose to go back into the delicious mood I was in just moments earlier... I walked on. I gazed at the still water on the lake, I became mesmerised by the rhythm of the man rowing on the lake, enjoyed the flow of any breath...... . I often tell my students, "you have choice". You have choice in how to place your attention; you can choose what quality you want to evoke, and then cultivate; and you have choice in how and where to shift the quality of your attention. This was my practice today. Playing with choice. ,continued in comments See more
18.01.2022 Meditation is instinctive; it is a natural inbuilt ability. It is a skillfull way of cooperating with our innate healing powers. Scientific research has shown that meditation, the physiological response to a healthy meditation practice, is completely natural. Meditation can help to tune you, your mind-body so that you can function in peak form and truly thrive in life. ... Animals are great teachers of meditation Watch them Study them Learn from them . . Giving your full attention to animals , you can sense that they are skilled, natural meditators. . . In meditation, there is no need to impose tools and techniques that tame your inner wildness or suppress your animalistic instincts. . . To cultivate a healthy meditation practice , you need to allow yourself be natural ... and give space for your inner wild animal to roam free.
18.01.2022 Michael McDowall and I have released our third recorded chat about Instinctive Meditation ... this time we give an overview of the skills you acquire along the journey. Available on YouTube, iTunes and Spotify https://youtu.be/CX9FCrQ3Pd8
13.01.2022 Act locally, think globally. I love this slogan. . I think that you can link most problems in the world to a disconnection to ourselves. Relationships, with ourselves, others and our planet are affected by our own sense of disconnect. When we are disconnected to who we really are, our values, our dreams and our loves, we can act out of integrity, we may make decisions that create harm and we can create a life that is distant from our deepest values, a life of emptiness and ...heavy regret. We all do it, from time to time. Creating a time and space to act locally.. very local ; to be with yourself, and practice holding yourself so gently and allowing all parts of yourself ( the good, the bad, the ugly) to meet, can give you the opportunity to feel whole. . Yoga means connection .. a joining together of all the parts of ourselves; a sort of union of all of who we are; our dreams, passions, fears, emotions, thoughts, memories, sense-memories etc are melded together to create a unitary whole. In the practice of yoga and meditation, we are creating an inner context for this inner union to occur. . During meditation, our inner constellation of Stars form a majestic galaxy; our individual grains of sand, pebbles, and weeds become the vast ocean. . This is one of the greatest acts of helping a wounded planet and a discombobulated society to live in alignment with your true values and expressing who you really are. . Who are you? What really matters to you? Are you feeling and living in alignment with what’s true and meaningful for you? . Can you give yourself 5 minutes, to catch up with yourself, and then step out into the world speaking and acting from that place of inner connectedness to your deepest self/selves?
13.01.2022 What do you want? What do you really want? How do you want to feel? What are your deepest desires for your life? How do you want to grow/blossom/evolve?... . . Asking yourself these questions, can lead you in the direction of life that’s true and meaningful for you. In asking deep and potent questions of ourselves, we gain more clarity and appreciation of our rich inner world and can ultimately change the course of our life. . Clarity equals power . . In meditation, we might not find all the answers, but we can be guided towards a deeper understanding of what’s true and real for ourselves. In cultivating that deeper connection to our truth, we can make teeny, tiny shifts in our decisions and choices and actions which ultimately lead us towards a a healthy self-relationship and a more fulfilling life. . . Meditation coaching can help you develop a healthy meditation practice, one that feels good, nourishing and wholesome. . . I offer sessions in person or via zoom. .... I can connect you to a host of other highly skilled, compassionate @the.radiance.sutras meditation teachers across the world who are there to help you along your meditation journey . . . See more
13.01.2022 Like many people, across the globe since May 25th #georgefloyd , I’ve had my own personal reckoning with racism... I’ve been diving deep into the works of great authors @ibramxk @austinchanning etc, and have been immersed into conversations and stories of my own countries history - it’s been overwhelming and uncomfortable, at times, to listen and face the truth of the past and admit and accept my own white privledge. -// The truth will set us free. Do you believe it? ... Do you live it? Really? - It seems that so many of us live as if we are afraid that by acknowledging the past, the chains of injustice will tighten rather than break. Our only chance at dismantling racial injustice is being more curious about its origins than we are worried about our comfort @austinchanning .. its not a comfortable conversation for any of us. It’s risky and messy. It is haunting to recall the sins of our past. But is this not the work we have been called to anyway? - Yoga means connection .... let’s unite to make this practice a platform for true union, and justice. A foundational practice to launch into the world and TAKE ACTION for social justice. You can’t turn your back on the suffering of others. This practice - Y O G A- has been made sexy ... its been commodified, you could argue it’s been supportive of the elevation of white supremacy; let’s instead elevate its power and harness it to have courage and engage in the difficult, messy but necessary conversations about racism Lets acknowledge the truth of the past and move forwards with honest commitment to make real change advocate for the voices of POC to be heard * live in harmony with the sacred land we share Will you take some action to help others in need today?

03.01.2022 Many many times, I’ve wanted to quit being a yoga teacher .... I wrote a blog about it. Click the link below to read on. I wanted to hide away from the overt and covert humble-bragging that’s consumed the yoga-social media world.... yet, paradoxically ( or hypocritically), it’s the flawless images that might seduce us into the practice in the first place. ... By engaging in the deep inner work and practice of inner-inquiry that yoga-meditation facilitates, we can step out into the world and humbly fight for ethical, social change. https://tashyoga.blogspot.com//musings-of-modern-yogi.html
02.01.2022 Go your own way. . Stay in your own lane. . Write the chapters of your own book.... . Take your own side. . Be courageous enough to carve your own path. . Within me exists a noisey rebel and I’ve been thinking a lot lately, about ways we can dismantle oppressive systems. ... one easy way is to acknowledge that we exist within a whole culture of consumerism that tells us the story that if we don’t buy the stuff and buy more stuff and brag about it and take the selfie, we won’t fit in ... we are nothing and we will die lonely. . Buy the stuff, so that you will fit in with the masses, is the message of Industrialists. Teams of marketers work tirelessly to hijak our primal need to be accepted by the tribe, and manipulate us to be compliant customers and buy a lot of stuff so that we can fit in and be popular. . This is especially apparent within our youth, who are traversing the messy, bumpy path of self-realisation. A paradox in the truest sense, teens want to desperately fit in AND simultaneously stand out and rebel against systems and rules and structure. . My advice to you; if you want to break the cycle of ecological destruction, degrading comparitis, anxiety and depression arising from running on the treadmill of trying to consume and impress. STOP buying stuff. Consume less ( stuff... including digital stuff). Instead - . Create. Read. Get outside. Do more self-awareness practices - Know thyself. . Honor your inner rebel. See more
