22.01.2022 This is the last picture taken of the kayak by the Coffs Harbour Water police. Sheltered by a bulk carrier which made the swim over to the police boat easy, though getting on the boat took a few attempts due to high seas. The kayak was on a South East trajectory at that stage, (110km offshore from Coffs - 250km from Ballina) As predicted winds blowing strongly West would aid our heading for NZ. I am heart broken at what could & should have been. If you hear of my kayak making... landfall "any-where" please let me know. UPDATE: The Kayak landed on Murawai Beach (25km from Manukau Harbour) 17 months later after being brought ashore in a major storm with 7mtr waves. Much thanks to the Park Rangers for recovering the Kayak. See more

21.01.2022 Associated Press US & Aus have both run articles on the Kayak's incredible story of endurance & self navigation abilities :-) http://www.sj-r.com//kayak-completes-solo-voyage-from-aust

19.01.2022 From Cliff Royal; Article in the NZ Herald. The Kayak's getting a LOT of media coverage :-) It's not the kayak that could, it's the Kayak that did :-)

19.01.2022 Video of Tasman Odyssey being recovered by tractor off Murawai Beach - off to temporary digs. Will fly over soon to re-united! Footage 3 news NZ

18.01.2022 Looks like Christmas is early! Thanks once again Gloryfy unbreakable for more amazing unbreakable glasses. Love them! Sorry you can't be here on Sunday - we really appreciate all your support. :)

16.01.2022 Loading up, on the road & now launched. Heading to shaw bay to wait for high tide. Will post videos later.... :)

16.01.2022 Wow! Holy Smoke! I was woken up by News Talk Radio 1ZB (NZ) to amazing news!!! My kayak Tasman Odyssey has been found...in New Zealand on Murawai Beach. Absolutely incredible that she stayed afloat for the past 18mths alone at sea... I had to abandon the Kayak 110km out from Coffs Harbour, NSW, I'm amazed the kayak was able to withstand the force of Tasman storms for that time! The emergency flotation & the rudder are missing, but everything else appears to be intact... under... a substantial newly acquired barnacle farm. I was only telling my wife the other day that I would like to try again... as it feels like an unfinished project. Thanks to Nathan Marshall for finding the kayak today, much appreciated. See more

15.01.2022 The kayak & I were given an amazing fairwell from a great group of friends who came down to Ballina (Thank you all). The wind was blowing in my favour & was "Forecast" to drop significantly that night. In actuallity the opposite occured & the choppy 2mtr swell rose with the winds to 3 & 4mtrs with the occasional 5mtr to scare the pants off me. My confidence in the kayak grew by the hour as we encountered and easily dealt with some very nasty waves & situations. Initially I ...Continue reading

15.01.2022 Spent the day in Ballina checking things out for the departure on Sunday 7th. The Ballina Seaway is classed as "Dangerous" but should be fine at high-tide, in light winds. Major storms going through NSW this week right through Sunday but should be light winds by Sunday night. For those who want to come down on Sunday, I will launch the kayak around 3-4pm (NSW time), prep everything before having nibbles & drinks at Shaw Bay. Will use the ramp beside the "Richmond River Rowing & Sailing Club" (beside huge water slide), as the place to launch the kayak & will paddle around to Shaw Bay (at the start of the north Sea-Wall). Departure will be around 9:30-10:30pm (NSW time).

14.01.2022 This is the kayak going through it's initial rollover trials. The Kayak looks a LOT better without being the base for a barnacle farm. I'm happy the kayak made it, there's only one thing missing... Me!

14.01.2022 Short video of recovered Tasman Odyssey kayak from Nathan Marshall Many Thanks Nathan :-)

12.01.2022 Another article on the Kayak :-) http://www.echo.net.au//kayak-washes-up-in-nz-18-months-a/

09.01.2022 On Kiwi Stuff.co.nz Good Video interview with Nathan who found the kayak, thought there may have been a body inside!!! Footage of the kayak being lifted off the beach... http://www.stuff.co.nz//australian-adventurer-to-be-reunit

08.01.2022 Crappy thundery stormy weather the last few days, "Clearing tonight" as I had hoped (phew). (Water spouts sighted off north Qld yesterday). On track for a calm late night start out of Ballina tonight but might run a little late getting there this afternoon? Weather for the next few days is wet but relatively calm until Friday. Friday will see 70-80km Head Winds & 7mtr seas directly in my path (bugger). I will hopefully be in the strongest part of the Easterly current headin...g to Lord Howe Island by then, which means I should be able to ride out the worst of it on the sea anchor "without losing too many kilometres." Those winds could well drive me backwards 50-100km depending on how long it lasts??? Once passed Lord Howe my pace will slow as there are no strong easterly currents on the east side until I near NZ & those currents head North, which isn't any sort of help at all :-( See more

08.01.2022 NZ News Hub News segment on "The Ghost Kayak" Short interview with Nathan Marshall, great pictures of the gargantuan barnacles & quick Skype snippets with me. http://www.newshub.co.nz//ghost-kayak-completes-trans-tasm

07.01.2022 Beautiful sunset. Finished packing the kayak, having an "extended" interview with the ABC.

05.01.2022 Okay, this is the last article I'm putting up on the Kayak. It's from the Gold Coast Bulletin, my local paper :-) http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au//b716d51620ce085e82590

02.01.2022 The barnacles on top of the Kayak shows the kayak has been traveling partially submerged, mainly on it's sides (clean nose & no barnacles on the solar panel) for quiet a while. The Turtlepac flotation in the nose must still be intact, while the two additional bags tied onto the rear sides have been torn off. Absolutely amazing that this "Home Made" kayak survived the Tasman Sea for 18mths on it's own!!! I'm amazed :-)
