08.01.2022 Bonnet Island Lighthouse has seen it’s fair share of West Coast storms. The conditions were so bad that the convicts who lived there named the narrow 120 meter e...ntrance to huge Macquarie harbour, Hells Gate. When the timber cutting industry moved in, navigating the hazardous narrow entrance and its sandbar was essential to sending timber out to Hobart. The signal station, which was manned by convicts from the newly established penal settlement at Sarah Island, was erected to indicate conditions entering the harbour. The West Coast is wild, rugged, and full of history. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous with us, @karmennharley! See more
