20.01.2022 On Friday the ITF and the MUA helped seven Burmese seafarers to stand up for their rights to stop working and get off their ship after 14 months on board. The c...rew change crisis has made it hard for lots of companies to relieve tired and fatigued crew on their ships with fresh crew, with a lack of flights and government border restrictions as the biggest reasons. But there is no excuse for keeping seafarers on board beyond thier contracts and against their will. And when seafarers say they want to stand up and enforce their rights - the ITF and our affilaites will support them. Solidarity with the crew of the Unison Jasper. Solidarity with the Independent Federation of Myanmar Seafarers. Solidarity with all seafarers!

09.01.2022 Do you know someone who needs some advice? The best piece of advice you can give ANY worker is to join a Union. The second best is to contact the UnionsTas COVID-19 hotline to get some help and be pointed in the right direction for the future.

08.01.2022 Comrades we encourage you to like this page and get behind helping stop the blocking of Offshore Wind, our industry deserves the opportunity of creating more job for our members, help stop the blocking now!

04.01.2022 The branch would like to invite our members, their family and friends to the screening of Wild Butterfly Wednesday 16th September at Reading Cinema in Devonport. Tickets are available from the branch for $15.00 (Cash) We are highly encouraging our members to have a night out at the movies to watch Wild Butterfly.... This film is a dramatised documentary that explores childhood trauma and its relationship to ongoing mental health issues and drug use. It uncovers the hidden story behind a family’s tragic circumstances and opens our eyes to the impacts of social injustices and prejudices that could befall anyone. https://wildbutterflymovie.com/

02.01.2022 CALLING ALL HUMANS - CLIMATE DAY OF ACTION Jump on to our campaign page and give us a like, help us get Offshore Wind up and going. We need sustainable, renewable and clean energy sources.... We need offshore wind #stopblockingoffshorewind #facetheclimateemergency #schoolstrike4climate #muatas https://www.facebook.com/Stop-Blocking-Offshore-Wind-113819963802558/

01.01.2022 MUA members are always great supporters of charity organisations and community groups providing assistance. Today it was our pleasure to do our bit for women finding themselves in difficult situations or dealing with homelessness. Share the Dignity is a wonderful program collecting sanitary and personal hygiene products for women doing it tough. ... Sadly the number of people facing homelessness or sleeping rough is growing. Remember WE are all only a few unplanned events or poor choices away from facing same or similar situations. Look out for each other! Maritime Union of Australia - MUA #proudtobeunion #HereToStay

01.01.2022 Congratulations to Don. Don retired from the wharf after 35 long years on the Docks. Today we celebrate his service and wish him all the best for retirement.... Well done Don on your MUA Life Membership

01.01.2022 Thanks Comrades It was a little different but always awesome to have a buzz in the branch. As mentioned at today’s meeting, jump online and support the petitions we spoke of:... Clean up after yourself Woodside - https://www.awu.net.au/campaigns/stop-woodside Australia needs a National Strategic Fleet - https://www.megaphone.org.au//buy-the-aurora-australis-ice Join and Support First Nations Workers Alliance - https://fnwa.org.au And last but not least ..... get busy, get active and get involved. If you couldn’t make it this month , we will see you next month. There will be a ‘social’ following the July meeting so a great chance to catch up. Now, more than ever is the time for the Union to lead the way on rebuilding our society to the fair, caring, sustainable workplaces and communities we know can exist. We all need to be a part of that!
