13.01.2022 The Tasmanian Golden Retriever Club Inc are pleased to announce that Mr Alan Curry from Lomore Kennels (UK) will be judging our Championship Show on September 21st. This show will be dedicated to the memory of our Life Member Kaye Klap.

11.01.2022 It is with great sadness that The Tasmanian Golden Retriever Club have been informed that our Patron Mr Mervyn Philpott, Westley and Standerwick Kennels, has passed away. Mervyn was a warm and generous gentleman with a passion for both show and working Goldens. As an active Patron, who not only sponsored and took an interest in our Championship Shows, he was keen to know how our members and their dogs were going in all their other disciplines and activities. Mervyn showed ...a great interest in our Australian dogs, often travelling from the UK to attend Nationals and Championship Shows throughout the country. Westley dogs contributed so much to our wonderful breed. The club would like to extend their heartfelt condolences to Mervyn's family, especially Anne Falconer and her sisters. The photo enclosed shows Mervyn working with his dogs, Corey and Wenna at his home in Cranham, Gloucestershire. See more

08.01.2022 As many people are aware, it was with sadness that we received the news that our contracted judge for our Championship Show on September 21st passed away last month. We are now able to announce that Mrs Vicky Clarke of Ousevale Golden Retrievers, UK, has been approved by the ANKC to be our judge. The club are extremely grateful to Mrs Clarke taking this position at such short notice.

07.01.2022 The Tasmanian Golden Retriever Club will be holding their Open and Championship Shows at the Hobart Showground at Glenorchy on Saturday September 21st. This will be the last ever show at this dog pavilion. The show is dedicated to Kaye Klap who was a great supporter of The Tasmanian Golden Retriever Club. We would also like to acknowledge and thank BlackHawk for their generous sponsorship for both shows. Exhibitors: The entry closing dates for both shows will be Sept 7 via ...postal and midnight September 11 via Show Manager. There will be no canteen; however we will provide coffee, tea, Milo, milk and sugar for a gold coin donation and a slice to go with it. Although we will have some disposable cups available, we ask that you bring your own mug to save on wastage. We invite exhibitors and our helpers to submit a few memories or appreciations of Kaye that we can include in the catalogue. We also would like to welcome exhibitors and helpers to our "Meet the Judge" lunch at Coal Valley Farm, Richmond Rd., on the following Sunday at 11.00am. If you haven't already, could you please let me know if you are coming to the Sunday lunch. Linda Rand Secretary and Show Secretary TGRC 0419 325643 [email protected]

06.01.2022 When you are looking to buy a pedigree puppy or dog, please check they are not a back yard breeder by phoning the ANKC office as listed in the post. If your preferred breed has an ANKC affiliated state Club, for instance The Tasmanian Golden Retriever Club, you can also contact them for advise. Most registered breed clubs have webpages with information on the breed and contact details of a representative.

06.01.2022 This post has been cross posted with permission from the author. Just want to give a warning to everyone after receiving some very sad news earlier today about the death of a young dog we bred. Please be careful when using the Hothands (or similar brands) hand warmers/foot warmers that are air activated. The main active ingredient in these is iron powder & in an amount that is extremely toxic & potentially lethal to dogs & cats. Yes, there is a small warning "keep out of rea...ch of children and pets" but until now we weren't aware just how dangerous they could be. However, this warning is only on the external packaging, not the packaging that the individual hand warmers are in. A family who bought a puppy from us towards the end of last year lost their young dog after he found one of these (it seems to have fallen out of a jacket pocket) & ate almost all of the hand warmer, including all of the contents. He managed to find this while his family were with him in the house, like a typical golden retriever he found a "treasure" & took it secretly. His family weren't aware anything was wrong until he vomited & then they found part of the chewed hand warmer. He received urgent vet treatment, staying at the emergency vet overnight. He seemed to improve, the vets thought maybe the iron hadn't been as potent as the hand warmer had been activated & it seemed he had been able to vomit up all the contents. The next day he was not his usual self & went back to the vets, and ended up in intensive care for treatment & monitoring. Sadly, he had sustained organ damage, he deteriorated through the night & died. His family are devastated & so are we. This has been a huge warning to us I would not want to hear of this happening to anyone else. Please, if you use these types of air activated hand warmers that you make sure they are kept where your dog (or cat) can't reach them. Also, when you dispose of them make sure it's somewhere animals can't get to. Personally, I don't think I'll have these in our house at all.
