15.01.2022 CHRIS OLDFIELD SPINS DODGING ABORIGINAL HERITAGE AS A PROCEDURAL MATTER YESTERDAY'S APPEAL launched by the Mount Wellington Cableway Company (MWCC) against the ...Hobart City Council, was stood down for three weeks for mediation and written submissions: https://www.themercury.com.au//978fdbbd9c72f4341bedd515f25 (subscriber only) MWCC states that it has completed a desktop assessment and is arguing that additional information requested by council experts about the project’s potential impact on Aboriginal heritage has breached time limits in the Land Use Planning Assessment Act and is therefore unreasonable. On ABC Hobart Drive yesterday afternoon Chris Oldfield explained: "What we are really asking is a procedural matter. It's not about the Aboriginal heritage question as such. I think we we have shown the greatest respect for Aboriginal heritage on the Mountain." 15.01.2022 Some significant questions here - has the proposed Malbena project morphed into something much more substantial, or has PWS been incredibly sloppy with its projected $ numbers and tried to inflate the true value of EoI projects? Minister Jaensch chose not to answer.

15.01.2022 The potential impact of feral deer on the TWWHA has been something of a sleeper issue issue; certainly the govt seems to have been dozing so far. The development of a deer management plan provides a timely opportunity to move things along.

10.01.2022 It's great that some elements of the Tas tourism industry appreciate the true values of Tasmanian's wild places and feel able to speak out. The TICT view has been unchallenged for too long.

08.01.2022 A draft Tourism Master Plan for Kakadu National Park has just been released for comment. Sadly, the 260 page draft plan contains the sort of pro-development stuff we are familiar with in Tasmania. It even proposes an EoI process (then following is an extract): "Undertake the following EOI processes - engage with industry to identify new visitor experience concepts including activities, sites and visitor infrastructure in consultation with traditional owners engage with ind...ustry to develop private accommodation options for glamping / ecolodge / wellness retreats at various locations in Kakadu for refreshment kiosks at key attraction sites to improve food and beverage offerings such as food trucks, coffee carts, campground kiosks. During stakeholder engagement on the Tourism Master Plan several innovative ideas were raised for the Jim Jim and Twin Falls Precinct: a zipline from the top of Jim Jim Falls to the end of the plunge pool glass bottomed viewing platforms and walkways tropical summer helicopter tours to sites such as Jim Jim."
