25.01.2022 The Federal Government has announced changes to the university fee structure, with the new model commencing from 2021. The new fee structure will make some degrees much more affordable, but may put others - including those in humanities, law and social science fields - out of reach for some students. CDAA has distributed a media release voicing our disappointment over the announced changes, with the new fee structure encouraging a mindset that places more value on some degree...s than others. 22.01.2022 Unemployment figures from the ABS are hard to interpret because of how they are defined. Once upon a time, full employment was an objective of Australia's Government, and it meant what it sounded like. From 1946 until 1975, successive federal governments Labor and Liberal kept the national unemployment rate below 2 per cent on average.... The "full employment" policy began with Labor prime minister John Curtin as part of his post-war reconstruction plans. He had been advised that 1 million men and women, who were part of the armed forces and war industries, would want a peace-time occupation after World War II, and he desperately wanted the economy to absorb them. He feared a return of high unemployment from the pre-war years. READ MORE: http://ow.ly/axsG50AEW5h

20.01.2022 For all of us frustrated travellers, this is a good link. Hopefully, it will stay up and running for a bit or at least until we can all go back to doing it for real. You can drive in 50 cities around the world and spend as much time in any one of them driving. You can set the speed of the vehicle, street noise, music and visit the world while at home. 16.01.2022 For the past two years Disability Voices Tasmania has been building a new organization that is strengthening and promoting the individual and collective voices of Tasmanians with disability. Each year we develop Projects to support individual and community change. Our third Project for 2020 2021 is called Broadcasting Your Voice. This Project will work with people with disabilities to build and strengthen their voices through learning and developing skills in speaking on b...roadcast media. I’m writing to ask your help in designing our Programme by asking your members to fill in a survey. The survey asks about past experience with a range of media and future hopes regarding speaking on television, radio, podcasts, or YouTube. Once we have the results of the survey, we will begin the process of designing and fine tuning the project which we imagine will include workshops, opportunities for mentoring and trying different ways of broadcasting your voice. 02.01.2022 The Federal Government has today announced plans to introduce sanctions for charities that fail to join to the National Redress Scheme for victims of institutional child sexual abuse. The changes include a new Governance Standard and an amendment to the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission Act 2012 (the ACNC Act). Under the new Governance Standard, registered charities will be required to take all reasonable steps to become a participating non-government instit...ution in the National Redress Scheme if a claim has been, or is likely to be, made against them. The amendment to the ACNC Act will mean religious institutions will not be eligible to be classified as Basic Religious Charities (BRC), and exempt from the ACNC Governance Standards, if they have been named in an application but have not joined the Scheme. ACNC Commissioner the Hon Dr Gary Johns said the Commission was engaged in the development of the legislation. Affected charities risk losing charity registration and access to a range of Commonwealth charity tax concessions, which is a serious penalty, he said. I am pleased to note that out of more than 58,000 Australian charities only a very small number are likely to be affected. TO READ MORE: http://ow.ly/hsp650DktVA See more
