25.01.2022 How good do these caramel apples look? These delicacies are proving a hit amongst the sweet tooth lovers at the annual Huon Valley Mid-Winter Fest. If you are not already here, come down now and get your hands on a cup of hot cider by the giant bonfire! There's plenty of delicious goodies to feast on and keep your bellies warm!

24.01.2022 Suse Henshaw has created a delicious, compact food experience in Launceston that is bound to impress. Perfect Day Tours has only recently been launched but is already sparking interest near and far.

24.01.2022 Next time you are travelling through the East Cost of Tasmania, we suggest you make a stop at Devil's Corner Cellar Door. If you fancy sitting on an outdoor deck with an incredible view overlooking the Hazards, feasting on freshly shucked oysters washed down with a glass of sparkling, this place is for you. Even if you don't like wine, the architecture of the buildings themselves is quite remarkable - the 'pole' you can see in the first photo is in fact a winding staircase!... The Tombolo Cafe on the deck also serves up coffee, woodfired pizza, and other treats such as gelato. Have we got your attention yet? :)

22.01.2022 The tiny town of Bothwell, about an hour's drive from Hobart & Beyond and just outside of Tasmania’s Midlands Discover the Heritage Highway is home to Nant Distilling Company, one of Tasmania's most successful distilleries. Nant Distillery will this year be tripling their production. They have also recently opened a hotel in Macquarie St, Hobart, and have added another addition to their growing collection of whisky bars (with the newest having just opened in Kuala Lumpur). Th...e picturesque grounds of Nant Estate is an attraction even for the non-whisky drinker; the c. 1821 convict built sandstone distillery was originally a flour mill, and is set amidst a charming country backdrop that has you feeling as though you could be in England. A visit to Nant Estate will be a day well spent; with the option of doing a guided tour of the distillery, a whisky tasting, and a nibble on some fine locally sourced Tasmanian fare in the Atrium restaurant overlooking the lush green pastures of the estate. You can graze your way though a platter of smoked meats and cheeses, or for the full Nant experience try a special menu that had been paired with their prized single malt whisky. For a Nant experience closer to Hobart, head into their whisky bar (one of four in Australia) in Wooby's Lane, Salamanca and enjoy one of their signature whisky cocktails in a sophisticated lounge setting.

20.01.2022 Craving something sweet? Head on down to Honey Badger Dessert Cafe and try their "Blonde Panookie" - a chocolate chip and peanut butter cookie with marshmallow, orange blossom fairy floss, caramel fudge ice-cream and salted caramel beads. Now that's what we call a dessert!

20.01.2022 Jaffa cheesecake anyone? The Chocolate Gallery & Cafe in Stanley is sure to delight chocolate lovers. We dropped in for some lunch whilst in Tasmania's North West and had a difficult time choosing from all the different flavours of hot chocolate available - Honeycomb, Salted Caramel, and Rocky Road just to name a few! There is also a very tempting variety of chocolates and fudge that you can try in store and purchase to take home with you.

20.01.2022 Exquisite food served in a stylish, ambient setting on Hobart's waterfront is what you can expect to find from a dining experience at Peacock and Jones.

19.01.2022 Now this is the kind of breakfast that makes us happy. Colourful, creative and delicious! This is Chocolate Waffles and 'Almost Vegan' breakfast, and we found them at Pilgrim Coffee in Hobart.

19.01.2022 If you haven't already heard, Peacock and Jones is a new restaurant and wine bar on Hobart's waterfront, located in the Henry Jones Art Hotel building. Originally the Timeless Way cafe, the interior seems to have mostly remained untouched, however the gorgeous sandstone building is quite possibly too nice to alter. Inside, there is a cosy and intimate feel to the restaurant. Dining tables surround an open kitchen, embracing a trend that includes the cooking as part of the the...atre rather than something to hide in a back room. The extensive wine collection is almost certainly enough of a reason to drop in for a visit, though we doubt you'll leave without being tempted by the menu. Fresh, local and seasonal produce is combined to create visually stimulating dishes in tasteful simplicity. Exquisite dishes such as the Raw Fish with daily changing garnishes, and Beef Tartare with Organic Yolk, Mustards, Potato and Native Pepperberry will be sure to delight. With small and large plates as well as snacks to choose from, this is the type of place where you can nibble your way through a few different tasting plates while enjoying a nice bottle of wine. There is no pretense or stuffiness here. Just good food, nice wine and attentive service from knowledgeable staff. A separate vegetarian menu is available, and those of you who like to try every dish on the menu needn't worry about running out of surprises too quickly as the menu will be constantly changing. Our only complaint was the absence of a chocolate dessert, but every dessert on the menu was devoured and very well received by us! 19.01.2022 If you haven't yet dined at PEARL + CO, one of the newest additions to Hobart's emerging waterfront dining scene, you need to go there now.

16.01.2022 What were your thoughts on the Taste this year? Did you go? Do you think improvement is needed?

13.01.2022 How good does this lavender ice cream from Bridestowe Lavender look? Bridestowe Lavender is located in Nabowla, Northern Tasmania, which is about a 45 minute drive from Launceston or a 25 minute drive from the beautiful seaside town of Bridport. The farm is open year round but is best viewed in December and January, just prior to harvest when the vibrant violet flowers are in full bloom (ie. now!)... Refresh yourself with some lavender inspired cuisine from the Woodcroft Cafe, or you can browse for lavender gifts in the very fragrant gift shop. For more information visit www.bridestowelavender.com.au

12.01.2022 Tasmania’s premier garlic festival celebration is back (by popular demand) this Saturday the 27th February 2016 for a third deliciously pungent year to pay homage to Tasmania’s garlic harvest!

12.01.2022 If you are travelling through the Huon Valley region, why not make a stop at Pagan Cider for some cider tasting. Made from 100% "naked" fruit with no additives, Pagan's cider range include flavours such as Cherry, Strawberry & Apple, and Quince (which we are about to try!) You can pick up their ciders from numerous locations around Tasmania - head to their website for stockists.

11.01.2022 This weekend Festivale will reignite the Summer spark of Tasmania's food scene as a leafy pocket of Launceston becomes crowded with tents and plastic chairs, while hungry punters flock from near and far.

11.01.2022 TasTAFE Drysdale students in Northern Tasmania were fortunate to work under the guidance of renowned restauranteur Tetsuya Wakuda last Friday night as part of the Great Chef Series; a monthly event held throughout April-October at the Launceston TasTAFE campus, that is designed to allow students to receive an invaluable experience of working with some acclaimed influential chefs. Each dinner consists of a six course degustation featuring flavours and techniques that have shaped each of the Great Chefs, matched with wines from a leading Tasmanian winery. Truffles were the theme of Tetsuya's dinner - with truffle featured in each course on the menu, and wine was provided by Holm Oak Vineyards.

10.01.2022 The owners of Shene Estate & Distillery, in Pontville, Tasmania’s Midlands Discover the Heritage Highway, about 20 minutes drive from Hobart & Beyond have very good reason to be proud. Their acclaimed Poltergeist gin recently won both gold and silver at the San Francisco World Spirit Awards. A giant 2000 litre copper still we saw arriving on a delivery truck symbolises exciting times ahead for Shene; the distillery will soon be open to the public for the first time ever. Not ...afraid to get their hands dirty, Anne and David Kernke and their two daughters have worked tirelessly to restore the early 1800's convict built estate - a beautifully striking gothic building including an old barn and horse stables, since purchasing the property nine years ago. Sitting down and chatting with Anne, her incredible warmth and hospitality immediately shone through. These are some of the most passionate people you will ever meet. Every little element of the property has a story to tell, and Anne cannot wait to share the history of Shene with visitors. Guided tours are available by appointment, and of course there is a gin tasting tour available. Or perhaps you might fancy the Butler's Bounty, a tour that includes tea and delicious home-baked cake. You will find Poltergeist stocked at some of Tasmania's finest venues, such as The Glass House, Ethos, The Source at MONA, Stillwater and Pumphouse Point, to name a few. For more information, visit http://www.shene.com.au

09.01.2022 Great work from the team at Aloft. With the growing reputation of our quality sea produce, a local fish market would be a perfect asset for Tasmania to support our wonderful seafood producers - what do you think?

04.01.2022 We have been "sampling" as much of the food and drinks on offer at The Taste of Tasmania today as we could and here is a tip for you - try the chocolate brownies from Modo Mio Naked. These things are like heaven on a plate #thetasteoftasmania
