11.01.2022 8 February 2017 Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Primary Industries and Water New director for Tasmanian Irrigation Congratulations to Mr Guy Kingwill on his appointment as a new Director on the Board of Tasmanian Irrigation.... Mr Kingwill is currently a Board member of Lower Murray Water Urban and Rural Water Corporation (known as Lower Murray Water). He has substantial Australian and international executive experience, which includes nine years as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tandou Limited, a successful New South Wales farming business engaged in irrigated agriculture and water trading. Mr Kingwill is considered an extremely valuable addition for the Tasmanian Irrigation Board due to his extensive knowledge of rural water use and trading matters, his corporate background and experience of international corporate funding. A key plank of the Hodgman Liberal Governments economic platform is supporting real growth and to create real jobs in regional Tasmania by investing in our competitive strengths. Agriculture is one of those, generating over $1.4 billion at the farm gate and directly employing more than 7000 people. Delivering high reliability irrigation water across the state is a key part of our AgriFood Plan, which aims to increase the value of our agricultural sector ten-fold by 2050. 08.01.2022 Please note the Tasmanian Irrigation Annual Report is now available. http://www.tasmanianirrigation.com.au//AR2016_LR_for_web26 Please find below release from Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Primary Industries and Water Tasmanian Irrigation doubles water delivery for farmers... The opening of three new irrigation schemes in the past year is integral to the Hodgman Liberal Governments vision of growing the value of Tasmanias agricultural sector to $10 billion a year by 2050, and creating jobs across regional Tasmania. Today, I was pleased to table in Parliament the Tasmanian Irrigation (TI) 2015-16 Annual Report, which highlights a challenging but successful year for sustainable irrigation water development in Tasmania. 2015-16 saw all 10 of the schemes in Tranche 1 in full operation. And like our farmers and many involved in primary industries, Tasmanian Irrigation also responded to two weather extremes in the past financial year a prolonged dry period during the irrigation season followed by a record breaking flood event which impacted a number of dams. As a result of the drought conditions, Tasmanian Irrigation delivered 67,000 mega litres of water, more than double the previous season, with the Upper Ringarooma, Dial Blythe and South East State 3 schemes all successfully completing their first irrigation season. The five proposed schemes in Tranche 2 are at various stages of the project development process with two now under construction Southern Highlands and Swan Valley. Water sales for the North Esk Irrigation Scheme exceeded capacity which is a terrific vote of confidence to progress a business case for the project and the Duck and Scottsdale schemes are currently under assessment. Further irrigation development by way of a potential Tranche 3 program is on the Governments agenda. Following the release this year of the Future Irrigation Project Final Report, TI is now advancing feasibility studies into another eight potential irrigation projects. On behalf of the Government, I congratulate management and staff of TI on another successful year in developing job-creating irrigation schemes that are transforming Tasmanian agriculture. I again thank outgoing inaugural TI directors John Lord (chairman) and Geoff Coffey for their dedication and passion for TIs nation-leading public-private partnerships and I warmly welcome Samantha Hogg as the new chair.

06.01.2022 Chris Oldfield discussing the released white paper - 6.50 minute mark....

04.01.2022 The Federal and Tasmanian Governments today announced nearly $20 million of investment into the future of irrigated agriculture in Tasmania. Farmers and local communities on the east coast of Tasmania are set to reap the benefits from modern and efficient water infrastructure, with the two governments announcing more than $18 million in funding for the Swan Valley Irrigation Scheme as part of the Tasmanian Irrigation Tranche Two Program. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Barnaby Joyce said the Coalition would also invest a further $1.78 million into a total $2.5 million project with the Tasmanian Government to fast-track a feasibility study into potential new areas in Tasmania for developing irrigation schemes.

02.01.2022 Tas Irrigation confident Scottsdale scheme will proceed With the close this week of the second round of water sales for its proposed Scottsdale Irrigation Scheme, the state-owned company Tasmanian Irrigation says it is confident the scheme can now go ahead, though it is still not quite across the line. Well be continuing talks with several more interested parties over the next few weeks, Tasmanian Irrigation chief executive Chris Oldfield said today. Having revamped the o...riginal scheme to meet the less than expected demand from landowners, we are now within reach of the 75 per cent take-up that we set for the 8600 megalitre (ML) scheme. Tasmanian Irrigation set that 6450 ML threshold. The scheme was designed to cover an area of about 17,000 ha between Springfield and Waterhouse. The second round of sales delivered tantalisingly close to the 75 per cent. Mr Oldfield said that should see the Scottsdale Irrigation Scheme go ahead. It would probably require board approval of an amended business case, which would see water delivered to Waterhouse properties via pipeline instead of the original plan of pumping extra water into the Great Forester River. That method had inherent transmission and pressure losses. I am very confident we can do this, Mr Oldfield said. Contact Chris Oldfield 0419 309 303
