22.01.2022 It is in times of crisis that we witness greater resourcefulness and creativity, stretching the boundaries of innovation. If companies are solely steered to deliver financial efficiency, the spreadsheet becomes the enemy of innovation. Companies that use this moment to take a fresh look at how they operate and apply scenario planning, it can also represent an opportunity: to emerge from the current crisis more agile, resilient and innovative. www.weforum.org//scenario-planning-is-the-what-if-in-busi/
22.01.2022 We love to start the week with a celebration and this week we have something huge to share with our Network. The Welcome BackPack, is a project developed by a 2019 program Learning Set and has just received the 2020 Human Rights Week Tasmanian Award. The recently established not-for-profit received the award as an acknowledgement of the outstanding acts of kindness and compassion that positively impacts the life of a Tasmanian individual or community. ... Welcome Back(pack) provides practical, immediate support to the nearly 200 women leaving the Mary Hutchinson Women's Prison in Tasmania each year. The initiative equips women with a backpack, a set of clothing, toiletries and an information card detailing how to access local support services. Since officially launching in October this year, Welcome Back(Pack) has welcomed 23 women back into the community, providing them with critical support following their prison sentence. Project Director, Emily Chase TLP13, said the award was an outstanding recognition of the impact Welcome Back(pack) had made in such a short period. "In a matter of months we have been able to make a significant difference to the self-esteem, confidence and self-worth of the women who are leaving prison," Ms Chase said. Ms Chase, on behalf of the group, spoke about how Tasmanian Leaders provided an environment for solution-focused learning, with a real focus on supporting the Tasmanian Community. "When we became aware of the situation for people leaving prison, it was a 'no brainer' that we needed to help. On our own, this project would have felt overwhelming and unachievable, but Tasmanian Leaders brought together people with such a diversity of skill sets we were able to share the load, work to our strengths but also develop new skills while learning from each other". "Without the ongoing collaboration and support of Dress for Success Hobart (a TLP11 Learning Set Project), and the Tasmanian Prison Service, we would not have been able to make the practical difference that we strive for," Ms Chase said. Please join Tasmanian Leaders in congratulating the Welcome Back(pack) team members; Emily Chase, Katrina Kelly, Jennifer McKenzie, Tom Remenyi, Jen Smit and Chris Warr. 19.01.2022 Leadership + Trust Symposium 2020 Are you still undecided about whether to attend our Leadership + Trust Symposium in-person or online? We hear you, and what to assure you that both experiences will offer unique engagement opportunities with our speakers and other attendees.... For those attending online, we will be utilising the Zoom platform and will be building in lots of opportunity for breaks and breakout conversations. For those attending in person, you have the option to attend an optional half-day bonus workshop on Thursday 15 October with leadership development professionals Greg Jemsek and Suellen Taylor. The hardest thing will be for you to choose between either a facilitated conversation on ‘Leadership in an era of fake news’ with Greg and a workshop on ‘Trust in a high change environment’ with Suellen. Both days end in an opportunity to catch up informally with attendees. The investment for the online experience is $129, and for in-person is $398. All the details, including a link to book, are on our brochure at: https://bit.ly/3kYtDzJ
18.01.2022 This is what inspires us to do what we do! But we can only take a little of the credit as part of the success of our programs relies on creating immersive environments (yes even online!) where participants can learn as much from each other as they do from the formal content we provide. Sign up to our newsletter at our website or send us an email at [email protected] if you would like to be notified when we open applications for our next I-LEAD.
18.01.2022 In these complicated times, acting ethically is not as simple as it once was. Social norms change seemingly every day. Often, even the right choice produces collateral damage to real or perceived inequity. What is a leader to do? The director of Ethical Imperatives contends that ethical leaders possess six traits that command, not demand, loyalty. ... Read more at: www.fastcompany.com//6-questions-to-ask-to-find-out-if-you
18.01.2022 It was lovely to gather face-to-face with our 2020 TLPers at our recent session looking at the Future of AI with Secret Lab and Employment gaps in Tasmania with a range of industry experts. We enjoyed being together, and made the most of the side conversations and casual chats in the breaks and over our meals. Delivering a leadership program during a global pandemic is not ideal, however it is a great opportunity to practice our adaptive leadership skills.
17.01.2022 We believe anyone can lead, in any number of situations. We also believe there should be no economic barrier to participation in the Tasmanian Leaders Program. But we know there are individuals and organisations for whom the program fees are difficult. Thats why we work hard with our scholarship partners to help individuals and organisations with the Tasmanian Leaders Program fees.... In 2021 we are pleased to offer full scholarships for: 1. A Tasmanian Aboriginal person with thanks to TasNetworks, and 2. An employee from within the community alcohol and other drug sector supported by the Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drug Council Tasmania. In addition we have part scholarships for passionate Tasmanians working in either the not-for-profit sector or within a small business. 16.01.2022 "Without an inclusive environment, diversity becomes unsustainable. Leaders are responsible for embedding effective inclusive cultures that attract, retain and engage top talent. An inclusive company culture allows each individual, regardless of background, to use their potential in the workplace and enable colleagues to do the same. Greater diversity equals greater capacity to attract and retain talent, a competitive edge coming through differing viewpoints, stronger productivity and a better bottom line. However, managing a high-performing and diverse workforce requires daily commitment from the senior team." - Gavin Cheadle www.entrepreneur.com/article/354807
