21.01.2022 Good evening! A potential thundery night Sunday as a low pressure and trough move South East over Tasmania. There are some conflicting information even though both ECMWF and GFS models show thunderstorms across Tasmania in the early hours Monday morning. The upper atmospheric soundings do not show much instability so that conflicts, at this stage the bureau is forecasting storms only in Northern districts. Hobart may still get a storm, will be interesting.
21.01.2022 The odd lightning flash in the North East. Cold front on the West will stabilise and clear any storm activity.
20.01.2022 A bit of a downpour at Hastings. The chance of thunder.
19.01.2022 As can be seen, since 5pm yesterday lightning was scattered throughout the State last night. No major storms, high based fast moving thunderstorms.
19.01.2022 Update from 2 days ago. Situation a large low pressure system will approach from the West Wednesday then move South of Tasmania Thursday. The European model has thunderstorms developing from the West late Wednesday and extending to most of the State overnight and early Thursday. A second bout of storms happening Thursday afternoon later Thursday. The Global Forecasting System now has no storms over Tasmania from this system. The bureaus meteye has edged its bets with local f...orecasters predicting overnight storms mostly in Western and Northern districts. So! We need to watch. The bureau has access to all models from different sources so forecasters have to make a call . Given similar systems in the past the bureaus take is probably accurate. Temperatures are expected up to low thirties Wednesday so storms may be triggered further East. Further update tomorrow evening. See more

17.01.2022 Well, that was a dud last night!! I don't think any lightning recorded in the State. The European forecasting model has suggested storms in South East and Southern regions during early mid afternoon. Clearing completely by 4.00pm. Areas included are the Huon valley and South to Dover and Hastings. The BOM has adapted this model as the GFS ( Global Forecasting System) does not have storms this afternoon. A slight chance of a storm for Hobart.
16.01.2022 Good morning! Launceston folks! Looks like convergence may give you a possible storm late afternoon! Anywhere from Deloraine to Scottsdale may be affected!!

01.01.2022 A thunderstorm has touched NW Coast . These morning storms should die out with both GFS and ECMWF models now expecting storms mostly across Northern Tasmania tonight and early tomorrow. Of course I will monitor closely today if events unfold however as per model forecasts I have estimated some Towns and cities chances for storms in next 24 Hours.
