25.01.2022 Sadly tomorrow marks the start of the annual Brown Quail killing season in Tasmania. These diminutive native birds are shot in the thousands. Why? Because some ...people like the thrill of killing innocent creatures. Voice your opposition by contacting your local MP and calling for a ban on the killing. Or write to your local newspaper to voice your opposition. See more

21.01.2022 Tassie Salmon farming giant Tassal kills 498 Great Cormorants during 2013, the Senate Inquiry into Aquaculture hears this week, and we can only assume this attrocity is continuing! Please write letters to The Mercury [email protected] and express your displeasure direct to Tassal: [email protected]. We also need to lobby the government to protect both the Great Cormorant and Little Pied Cormorant. Both species are completely unprotected in Tasmania.

21.01.2022 Swordfish killing is constantly glamorised in the media, and here is another example. How is this different to big game hunting that public opinion is so against? Fish deserve consideration too, and feel pain like land-based species. Write letters to The Mercury, Advocate and Examiner newspapers to expres your displeasure. http://www.themercury.com.au//comments-fnj4f7k1-1227274645

21.01.2022 Bushfire Fund for Wildlife Thanks to the amazing generosity of people across Australia, and even some from overseas, the Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania 'Bushfire Fund for Wildlife' has a decent amount of money available to support wildlife carers and wildlife groups in their work to help fire-affected nativie animals. The fund will pay for medical supplies, feed for individual animals and for long-term food drops, and other items as agreed . The fund is now open for applica...tions for monetary support from individual carers and groups. Wildlife groups have been notified, but we realise there are also individual carers working to help wildlife. Application information and a simple form are available for download from our website: www.aact.org.au

15.01.2022 A close-up of the John Kelly article so that you can read it more easily...

15.01.2022 Come along to the launch of this fabulous Tassie kids book about road kill, written by long term member and Animals Tasmania supporter Kathleen McLaren, on 1 June. The publishing costs have been funded by Animals Tasmania.

14.01.2022 Bushfire Fund for Wildlife Tassie bushfires have left surviving wildife injured and at risk of starvation. Wildife carers usually provide care for injured and orphaned wildlife out of their own pockets. To ease the burden in this time of need, and to enable food drops to affected areas for an extended period of time, Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania (AACT) has launched the Bushfire Fund for Wildlife. AACT will reimburse registered wildlife carers and groups for expenses in caring for fire affected wildlife, and for food drops into affected areas. You can make a direct deposit to Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania, BSB 633 000, Account number: 122060924 or go to www.aact.org.au and click on the 'donate now' button. Please include the reference "wildlife fund".

13.01.2022 John Kelly of Lenah Game Meats at it again - trying to make more money for himself out of murdered Tassie wildlife!

11.01.2022 More than 50 permits were issued in the past year to kill an as yet unknown number of wombats in Tasmania. Farmers should be looking at alternatives, such as installing wombat gates to protect their fences, rather than killing these defenceless animals!

11.01.2022 Sadly there are penguin deaths happening around Tasmania at the moment - especially in the North. The cause is as yet unknown:

08.01.2022 Petition to ban the ceremonial release of balloons that is so detrimental to wildlife. Please share.

06.01.2022 A good start, but $100,000 is not nearly enough to save Tassie's wombats! We need more investment to save this endearing species, we also need a stop to farmers receiving permits to kill wombats pronto!!!

06.01.2022 Wombats are under threat in Tasmania, both from the sarcoptic mange and farmers(see recent post re permits for farmers to kill wombats). These wonderful volunte...ers are stepping forward to take action and create a disease free place for wombats, while the government is slow to move. We don't want to see a similar situation arise to that with the Tassie Devils. The spread of disease needs to be halted now. #savetassiewombats See more

05.01.2022 Wildlife will be suffering terribly as a result of the bushfires. Please ask friends & relatives who live in the affected areas to put water out Food such as cut carrott, apples, and sheep or other suitable pellets could be provided where feed has been destroyed. If injured wildlife is found, call Southern Wildlife Rescue and Care on 0439 190 052 or Bonorong on 6264 1184. Calls accepted 24/7.

05.01.2022 Article in The Mercury today. Please comment on the article/write letters to The Mercury/ Examiner and Advocate. Animals Tasmania are calling for an end to the recreational and commercial seasons.

05.01.2022 Short-tailed shearwater (muttonbirding) season is fast approaching (late March 2015). Many thousands of shearwater chicks are pulled from their burrows and killed by having their necks snapped. Recreational (often unskilled) 'hunters' and commercial (aboriginal run) industries participate. A chick's life (a species that lives 30+ years) is worth around $2! Please email Michael Groom ([email protected]) and Greg Hunt (Federal) ([email protected]) asking f...or the season to be called off. Key points: killing chicks is cruel, barbaric and unnecessary There has been no monitoring of population numbers since the 1990s There have been 4 shearwater wrecks in the last 7 years (where many thousands - potentially in the millions - of adult birds die en-route to their breeding grounds in Victoria and Tasmnia In 2014 many chicks starved, and burrow occupancy was down from an average of around 60%, to 10-17% Climate change and over-fishing are affecting their food supply These birds need protection, they are at serious risk of a population crash For more information: http://www.wildlifematters.org.au/ST_Shearwater_Slaughter.p See more

03.01.2022 Tassie's Liberal government has backed down on Labors 1080 phase out plan (was to be phased out by 2015). The use of this cruel poison has to stop!! Email Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Primary Industries & Water and let him know what you think: [email protected]
