25.01.2022 Glorious day, stunning surrounds, beautiful music! The TYO Sinfonietta, TYO Percussion Ensemble, TYO Chorales, TYO Camerata Strings and chamber ensembles brought the joy of music to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens (RTBG) on 7 November 2020. Such a wonderful day: thanks to everyone involved and as always huge thanks to photographer Mike Morffew, who donates his time and skills to provide a gorgeous record of every TYO event.

18.01.2022 Play on, play on! What a glorious way to return to live performance after pandemic stand-downs! On 30 August, the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Christopher Bearman, OAM, performed works by Shostakovich, Delibes, Bizet and Grieg in two stellar concerts. Bravo! Congratulations to the TYO musicians - who have played on with spirit and tenacity throughout the challenges of 2020. Our thanks to Hobart City Council for sponsoring our time in the stunning Hobart Town Hall; as well as to Mike Morffew for the lovely photos.

17.01.2022 Yes, it's true! (We've had LOTS of enquiries!) The Tasmanian Youth Orchestra is indeed playing two live concerts in the beautiful Hobart Town Hall this Sunday 30 August, under strict COVIDSafe protocols. Sadly, however, there are NO public tickets available, which is why we haven't promoted the concerts. Sorry everyone. We hope you understand that with very limited audience capacity, we have given ticketing priority to the families of those performing on the day - especiall...y as this is the orchestra's very first live concert in 2020. Pandemic allowing, TYO will be hosting at least two more concerts in 2020 and they will have much larger audience capacity. We'll keep you posted and we'd love you to join us for one of the later dates! For now, toi toi toi to TYO Chief Conductor Christopher Bearman, OAM; and the exceptional young TYO musicians performing a program of Shostakovich, Delibes, Bizet and Grieg on Sunday.

11.01.2022 Play on! Sunday 13 September saw the first live concert of 2020 for TYO's Ensembles: the TYO Sinfonietta, TYO Percussion Ensemble, TYO Camerata Strings, the TYO Tasmanian Junior Chorale and the TYO Reinecke Trio. With 73 performers and a socially distanced audience of 175 people, this COVIDSafe event was such a tonic! HUGE thanks to Hobart College for allowing us into the wonderfully refurbished Mount Nelson Theatre, as well as to Mike Morffew for the lovely soundcheck photos. Play on!

11.01.2022 What just under 80 musicians looks like: Tasmanian Youth Orchestra combined with TYO Sinfonietta!!! All ready to professionally record Bizet's March from Carmen - It's sounding great!

08.01.2022 Wooooo! TYO Percussion Ensemble returned from the school holiday break to rehearse this afternoon at their new venue: Elizabeth College. Thank you EC for proving a space for us!!! Judging by the smiles on their faces, it looks like they're enjoying being back!

08.01.2022 How exciting is this?! Tasmanian Youth Orchestra’s very first live performance of 2020, with a (socially distanced) audience of family and friends in the glorious Hobart Town Hall! PLAY ON!

08.01.2022 One week to TYO’s Fed Concert Hall premiere - and today’s open final rehearsal was off the dial! An invited audience of TYO family & friends experienced a knockout performance of Suppe, Schubert, Mahler and Strauss - ‘Four Faces of Vienna’. Bravo Tasmanian Youth Orchestra: can’t wait for next week!

08.01.2022 Well this is just a wee bit special! Heartfelt congrats to Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra on receiving the National Luminary Award at last night's APRA AMCOS Awards 2020. Here at TYO, we're fortunate enough to work regularly and closely with both TSO musicians and TSO as an organisation - it's a special relationship which offers enormous benefit and inspiration to our young TYO musos. This award is hugely deserved: TSO rocks and we couldn't be more stoked for them. Congrats!

06.01.2022 And we're back! Online was fun but there is nothing in the world like making music together. Please, if you can, consider making a donation to support TYO's work with Tassie's extraordinary young musicians. All donations over $2 are tax deductible and your support will help us play on! 03.01.2022 Why stop at one? TYO is proud to present our second 'iso-performance' the Dvoák Slavonic Dance Opus 46 No 8, which certainly put everyone through their paces! Here at TYO we are so very proud of the commitment and resilience of the wonderful young musicians of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra 2020, who have played on online and undaunted throughout these last months and the trickiest of times. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to ensure TYO can continue ...to deliver exceptional musical education to Tasmania’s young musicians and choristers, despite the challenges arts organisations face from coronavirus impacts. We would be most grateful for your support. Donate here: https://www.givenow.com.au/tasmanianyouthorchestra About the video: the Dvoák Slavonic Dance Opus 46 No 8, was recorded at home in Tasmania, Australia, during the period of COVID-19 restrictions. This is a genuine 'iso-recording' from the young musicians of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra 2020, aged 14 to 25, with TYO's Chief Conductor Christopher Bearman, OAM and concertmaster Alice Pickering. Video and audio compilation by the amazing Caleb Miller of Mac40.com; guide tracks recorded for the orchestra by the wonderful Simone Walters and Martin Penicka. Thank you all! P.S. If you know this work well you'll know that it actually has a repeat. We did record the full piece but it's a bit long for Facebook you can check it out on YouTube instead. https://youtu.be/XJE2h6Cl5dw
