22.01.2022 That these democratic transgressions occur in plain sight while their orchestrators carry full impunity, is testament to how far freedom has been commodified.

20.01.2022 I was recently interviewed for the UK based ‘Internal Comms Podcast’ by Katie Macaulay. 14.01.2022 An excellent report via ITV, re Black History month in the UK. It resonates across borders with moves to acknowledge how even White Australia has a Black history is an ongoing battle. Colonial establishments remain uncomfortable with shifting the current educational and cultural narrative beyond tokenism- a discomfort that is a function of centuries of entitlement; racism is a prickly reckoning. It is heartening to witness POC creatives and educators transform these narrat...ives on their terms. Though, I am angry that their struggle must still occur outside the lines drawn by a privileged version of White history. Produced by Roo Hasan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjZLwo6nUeY

13.01.2022 Today I participated in a national Workforce Inclusion & Diversity Conference on a Panel for, ‘Understanding intersectionality through lived experience’ It featured: Dai Le, Head of DAWN ... Tasneem Chopra, Director, Tasneem Chopra, Cross-Cultural Consultancy Moderator: Fiona Davies, Manager Diversity and Inclusion, Life Without Barriers Topics canvasses included: * Understanding difficulties employees face who identify as intersectional in workplaces that aren’t inclusive * Making an employee feel safe & respected * Implementing a culture of inclusion that goes beyond typical diversity metrics Perhaps my favourite takeaway imparted was: Make diversity in leadership aspirational by demanding platforms that are deliberately inclusive. POC don’t lack talent, they only lack opportunities. Hearing stories is important, but holding platforms of power is essential. #diversityandinclusion #diversityinleadership #representationmatters #tasneemchopra #crossculturalconsultant See more

10.01.2022 Looking forward to this panel tomorrow evening 7pm AEST, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. It also marks the commencement of the UN’s ‘16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence’. Discussions will challenge the political will to protect women and children, as well interrogate a culture of male entitlement across sectors that enable abuse to continue as women’s humanity is diminished. 09.01.2022 Today I conducted a PD training session on the issue of cultural competence in client and workforce engagement. My interstate client attracted participation from individuals across multiple organisations in the public service - demonstrating an enormous appetite to engage meaningfully with culturally and linguistically diverse clients. Further, a commitment to improve relations with ethno specific communities as well as adopting best practices towards a culturally safe workpl...ace were enthusiastically canvassed. I was overwhelmed (in a good way!) with the QnA component- signalling the acknowledgement to learn and do better- which bodes incredibly well for service excellence on all fronts. 08.01.2022 A little bit chuffed about acquiring this funky digital portrait by Melbourne based artist, Nidhal Al-Taie. This follows the SpaceToBe gallery exhibition, ‘Heads High Art Show’ last month, where another one of Nidhal’s portraits was on display. I am constantly awed by the calibre of artistic genius in this city. If art makes the world a beautiful place, then artists are it’s hallowed gatekeepers. Kudos to all the creatives whose efforts colour our lives with splendour. ... Thank you, Nidhal!
06.01.2022 2020 gave us much to ponder re self development, leadership performance and public perception. More than ever, we witnessed a correlation between the manner in which minorities are treated in the public realm and their portrayal in politics & media. 2021 needs to do better. To the extent that we can demand better of those serving in public office via elections, advocacy and inquiries, our media industry scrutiny commands a different approach. If our concern is about their ...failure in communications to represent all consumers, let them know. Write letters Posts Tweets. Use media to surveil media, in an Orwellian move that can’t be ignored. Persist. Demand change. Demand inclusion. Demand recognition of diverse talent abounding in merit, not privilege. Demand they do better. And if they don’t, seek out the independent proprietors in these spaces that do- and if you haven’t already: Promote them Subscribe to them Create content for them It isn’t enough to accept the status quo when we know it’s designed to promote a privileged discourse. Our societies are pluralistic. Our stories should be to. #diversestories #diversityequityandinclusion #diversitymatters #representationmatters #makeanoise #makechangehappen #tasneemchopra #crossculturalconsultant
04.01.2022 Today I moderated a panel with amazing legends- Nyadol Nyuon, Priya Serrao and Toolsika Rawoah for the Future Female Conference, 2020. Our topic was ‘women’s rights and safety around the world’: Since women’s rights movements alongside civil rights movements started in the 1900s, many achievements have made to secure our fundamental, equal human rights. Feminism has evolved and adjusted with political and social needs to achieve more inclusive goals for all. Yet, it is stil...l a work in progress in Australia and significant parts of the world. What are the various pathways towards equality taken in different cultures and the the roles of future female and male leaders in realising this vision Congratulations to Belle Lim and the exemplary team at CISA, Study Melbourne and their generous sponsors, for getting behind this worthy initiative. Registrations for this three day conference numbering over 1000 are testament to the need for a platform by WOC for WOC, navigating safe spaces to canvas issues that matter. In our panel, we discussed political participation, responding to GBV, patriarchy across borders, media influencers, influencing policy process, overcoming taboo talks, passive activism, resourcing of culturally sensitive support services and managing self care in a ‘woke’ centred climate. This was a robust discussion which I was privileged to be a part of and gained so much from. Thank you, all. The Future is Female and for that, I am incredibly grateful and emboldened.

01.01.2022 I want to thank all of you who have messaged me from far and wide over the past few days for being awarded an OAM. When I arrived in Bendigo from Kenya (via Alice Springs) at the age of 5, my aspirations were far fetched for a little brown kid missing two front teeth, with a big mouth; I was never a quiet Australian. My tenacious spirit often felt hemmed in at times by small town expectations. ... Despite lofty ambitions, I would never have imagined that more than four decades on I’d be where I am. Importantly, I acknowledge any gains I have made are due to the collective efforts of mentors, trail blazers and changemakers in this country; my sheroes. They spur me onward to end social, cultural and political inequities. Cannot wait to continue fighting the good fight together and never keeping quiet. Thank you so much, once again #thefutureisfemale
