20.01.2022 The Launceston Heat of the Australian Poetry Slam was held at the Royal Oak on Sunday the 9th of August. Going through to the State Final in September are: the Peoples Choice winner Patrick Clifford, Third placegetter Brittany Cook, Second placegetter Rohan King and the WINNER Rebecca Young. Congrats to the successful participants and the organisers - Yvonne Gluyas and Joy Elizabeth.... A great night out. Be of good cheer, there are more spaced out Poetry Events planned in Tasmania before the end of 2020, COVID permitting.
19.01.2022 Tasmania Poetry Festival 2020-2021 To state the bleeding obvious, this is not a typical year. The Festival Committee elected earlier this year will meet again in August to see what is possible in COVID -19 times. ... We wont have a full Festival weekend in October, but we plan to run some live and some virtual activities this year, leading to a Festival Weekend during the first half of 2021. We are hoping to run a Launceston Poetry Cup this October, albeit with a suitably spaced out local audience! The 2020 components may well be limited to Tasmanian audiences, but we hope to embrace those from further north during 2021. In the meantime, everyone is urged to support Tasmanian poetic endeavours, including the Launceston final of the Poetry Slam this month as advertised, organised by Festival Committee member Yvonne Gluyas. There is more poetry in the hands of Cameron Hindrum on Friday the 28th of August at the Princess Theatre Launceston, involving the lives and works of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes. Of course Deloraines Graeme Lindsay has a new culinary poetic challenge cooking. Stand by for details. Colin Berry Chair, Tasmanian Poetry Festival Committee 2020-2021

05.01.2022 Thank you @lynngoldsmith for the reminder and for the photo of this iconic man I have admired since my teens. On the anniversary on his untimely death on Decemb...er 8 we are given a moment to remember him and his legacy to imagine. And in the end ... #Repost @lynngoldsmith 39 years ago we lost the physical presence of an artist in this world whose message of love affected and in many cases, changed the lives of so many. A person who wanted nothing more than to be a conscious human being...I was scheduled to photograph him just a day earlier but I put it off to make a trip to Miami with then boyfriend Mitch Glazer...I sort of felt it was meant to be for if I had gotten to work with him at that time..his passing would have been overwhelming for my spirit..his life continues to profoundly influence others...condolences to all of the Lennon family and to those who felt they were family... #poetsandwriters #poeticjustice #poetrycommunity #poetrylovers #singersongwriter #poeticabondi #poetrycommunity #johnlennon #beatles #beatlesmeme #theend #love #lovequotes #andintheendtheloveyoutakeisequaltotheloveyoumake #newyork #deathanniversary #writers #johnlennonforever #thebeatles #poetryisnotdead
