25.01.2022 It is with sadness and bitter sweet, that Hobart sees the end of an Iconic era for Tasmania’s LGBTIQ+ community. For more than 17 years, and over 12 in its current location, Flamingos Dance Bar will finally close its doors. Not only has Flamingos been an Institution in the Hobart queer community, it has fostered and nurtured many up and coming drag queen. It has been the home of binggay, Dragnation, many an after party and the list goes on. We must say a BIG thank yo...u to our hosts Gary and Anthony. Who were the lifeblood and smiling faces that both greeted us and supported the community in so many ways. The sweet comes by way that this chapter is not completely over. Flamingos are looking for a new location, and they hope to be back bigger and better than ever. So from us to all the staff at Flamingos, thank you, and we look forward to the next instalment Flamingos has to offer. See more
24.01.2022 Long but important post alert! . From our Friends at WIO. Tomorrow marks the beginning of Trans Awareness Week, an annual celebration for the transgender community and time to stand in solidarity as allies, which culminates on Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) on November 20. For nearly 10 years WIO has held a vigil on TDOR to remember all those who have died or been impacted by transphobia and violence. Due to the exceptional circumstances this year, the ongoing restr...ictions, and the limitations of our office size, we have decided not to hold our own event this year. Instead we're letting you know about the various other events or ways you can connect with the community or raise your awareness this week. We started the other day by sharing an event happening online tonight at 6pm: "Always Was, Always Will Be :: Sistergirls and Brotherboys" : https://www.facebook.com/events/1604835953030341 If you're in Hobart tonight there's also Drag Queen Bingo at Society from 6:30. Here's a few more over the course of the week: Nov 13 - Out for Drinks, Hobart - https://www.facebook.com/events/648011402553218 Nov 13-15 - Map of Tassie Weekend Down South, Dover - https://www.facebook.com/events/2901547726616658 Nov 14 - Climbing QTs, online Trans event - https://www.facebook.com/events/988543048223403 Nov 15 - Pride in the Park, Ulverstone - https://www.facebook.com/events/672888620011720 Nov 15 - Yes Fest - Canberra and online - https://www.facebook.com/events/3883401288354188 Nov 18 - QueersInScience TAS - Queeraoke, Hobart Nov 19 - Minus18 online Trans Allyship Training - https://www.facebook.com/events/463538831277785 And finally the national, online Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil: Nov 20, 7pm - https://www.facebook.com/events/831246300955954 Hopefully you find something you can get along to.

22.01.2022 Call out for Volunteers! The Pride Parade and Party in the Park are not possible without the assistance of volunteers. Each year we gather a happy band of folks... to help, but this time we're going to need a whole lot more people! Head the the Parade rego page to sign up for either marshalling in the Parade, or helping to set up and/or pack down for the party. All volunteers will be provided with training, and will get entry into one of the TasPride-run Festival events! Plus that warm fuzzy feeling that comes with helping ensure the smooth running of Tassie's one and only Pride Parade! https://www.taspride.com/parade
22.01.2022 Congratulations to Thailand’s Education Minister. LGBTIQA+ Couples are supported and welcomed throughout the Schooling system. As part of daily life, education on issues and for proms etc. Now we just need Australia to follow this model.
