24.01.2022 Our Island Quilts sponsors are starting to come on board! Each year our sponsors contribute to the continued success of our exhibition, and we are extremely grateful. We'll be introducing them this year as they make contributions. Introducing 2020's first sponsor, SSS Sydney Sewing Supplies - Sewing Craft Limited! We're very grateful for their continued support. https://sewingcraft.com/
23.01.2022 CraftAlive is holding the Great Australian Craft Show 7 online right NOW! Not only is there a Bernina Australia machine to be won, but there are online classes, exhibitors, and LOTS of specials from vendors! Check it out!
23.01.2022 The next profile in our series 'My Sewing Space' is up on the website! My Sewing Space is an initiative to help us get to know other members no matter what part of the state we live in or what the current meeting restrictions are! Our third member to be featured is Faye Harding, quilter, charity quilter, Island Quilts committee member, and all-around lovely person. (I might be biased; I’ve known Faye for a while through her granddogs.) Would you be willing to be featured? It'...s painless and friendly! https://tasquiltguild.com.au//my-sewing-space-faye-harding/
23.01.2022 Roll up, roll up... Jobs up for grabs! As you may know we have our TQG AGM coming up very soon, 19th of September and nomination are open for Committee positions. We really would love to talk to anyone interested in nominating for Secretary, (or any other position). If you know someone who could do a job but who is too shy to speak up, let us know and we are happy to contact them. We are also looking for a willing individual to take on the role of Newsletter Editor. ... Call, message, smoke signal any of the Committee members to get talking. Contact details are in the newsletter or leave us a message here and we can get back to you.
19.01.2022 We had another lovely Show and Tell at our September meeting! One change that was made at this meeting was to move the Show and Tell to the beginning of the meeting, then had a break where everyone could look at the quilts layed out. Feedback so far is that this was a very positive change which helped break down barriers between people who hadn't met before. Did you like this change? And now...QUILT PHOTOS! As ever, if anything is mislabeled or you know more detail that can be added to the description, please let us know. https://tasquiltguild.com.au/september-2020-meeting-photos/
19.01.2022 With our Island Quilts committee preparing to ensure we make Australian quilting history as one of the only states to hold an exhibition in 2020, it's a good time to look backwards at the history of Island Quilts. Former guild President and Island Quilts Convener Chris Coulbeck-McMurray tells us a bit about the exhibition's past. https://tasquiltguild.com.au//exhibition-history-chris-co/
19.01.2022 It's this weekend! You can still head to Bicheno for the last day of it - 10 am to 3 pm.

15.01.2022 The Island Quilts Rosettes Quilting Bee launched at Saturday’s AGM! First of all let’s thank Anne Bartlett for all the work that she has done in sewing the prize rosettes for Island Quilts over the past 15 years. I’m sure there have been other helpers along the way so thanks to them too. Anne is the out going ‘Keeper of the Rosettes’ and the plan is to ‘get ahead’ and to make a stockpile to keep us going over the next few years. On Saturday we launched a quilting bee tasking... members to share this sewing load. A very very very big thank you to those who took up the challenge and the kits - only the lonely 6 kits (pictured below) were left. Yeah!!! We will need a new ‘Keeper’ in the new year to help with finishing: ironing on labels, beading etc. This happens at show time for about 20 rosettes, not a huge job, so any magpies out there who like bling and would like to volunteer, I have the biggest box of beads needing a home. Just a reminder: finished rosettes should be popped back into the bag with your name and handed in at the Xmas meeting or the next one you can attend please. Once again thank you dear ladies for your help - oh and I’ll bring along the remaining 6 ‘orphans’ to the friendship day just in case you missed out. Lynne Hargreaves Island Quilts Convenor
13.01.2022 It's a new year
13.01.2022 Members will already have received this communication from our President, Yvette Gilligan, about the decision to cancel Island Quilts for 2020. We'll be back, bigger and better, for 2021! https://tasquiltguild.com.au/island-quilts-2020-cancellati/
13.01.2022 Are you working on your entry for the CHRISTMAS TABLE RUNNER CHALLENGE? You can make your table runner however you wish - quirky, traditional, loud, Aussie themed - but it must be Christmas themed. Dimensions are up to you; after all our Christmas tables are different dimensions. Bring your table runner to the Christmas Friendship Day for judging!
11.01.2022 It might be a Monday , but it's not just any Monday... It's the Monday before our first meeting post-lockdown! We'll be socially distancing, encouraging lots of hand washing and sanitising, and discouraging hugs, however it should still be a fantastic day out socialising with other Tasmanian quilters. And we're hoping for a huge showing at SHOW AND TELL! If you cannot make the meeting or are still isolating but would like to pass on a message or say hello to the group, just contact us and your message will be passed on.
10.01.2022 Something normal is finally happening in this abnormal year: RAFFLE BOOKS ARE BEING POSTED! If you agreed to receive one when you took out membership, you should receive one in plenty of time to bring stubs and your money to the meeting on 18 July at Punchbowl. The raffle quilt will also be at the meeting to tempt you to purchase further booklets. If you didn't sign up to receive raffle books, just message and we can be sure you get a book. I'll admit I didn't sign up for... a raffle book my first year as I didn't realise how great the raffle prizes were! Plus they help fund our annual celebration, Island Quilts! Take a look at these booklets, fresh from the printer...
08.01.2022 Lynn Hatton posted this on another page: I belong to the Bicheno Busy Fingers Quit and Craft group. (Bicheno is on the east coast of Tasmania) We are holding what is probably the only Quilt show in Australia since Covid 19 and I still haven’t managed to finish a single item for our bi-annual show. I have offered to have an UFO display to motivate other procrastinating crafters. The Exhibition of Quilts will be at the Bicheno Memorial Hall on Saturdays 24 and Sunday 25 October 10 am to 3 pm. We have a stunning group quilt being raffled, which I will get a photo tomorrow to share. I know so many quilters are missing meeting in groups and inspirational shows.
08.01.2022 We’ve finally had our first meeting of 2020! Our website has some photos of the day and of the EPIC show and tell. Some quilters completed SEVERAL quilts during lockdown! Click the link below for the full gallery on our website. https://tasquiltguild.com.au/july-2020-meeting-photos/
08.01.2022 Would you like to join our Committee of Management Team? We currently have two opportunities open! 06.01.2022 As many of us spend most of our time sewcialising in our sewing groups, at times it's hard to get to know members of the guild from other parts of the state. In an attempt to create connections, we've started to post profiles of members called 'My Sewing Space' on our website. Meet Leesa Greenacre, passionate quilter, longarmer, and cat and dog slave (I assume). Now that you know a bit about her, say hello at the next guild meeting! https://tasquiltguild.com.au//my-sewing-space-leesa-green/
