24.01.2022 Update Willba and I had a couple days set back with a mini heatwave. But on Thursday we met when I picked him up. Willba is only 16yo, but wow what a nice young man, and his work ethic is outstanding and he shows some initiative and wants to learn, even asked for a broom toward the end which I don’t have. The dust extractor blocked up a few times and by the 3/4th time Willba was wanting to have a go at learning to unblock it on his own. And as bonus Willba has a fire pot at... home and was wrapped to take my scraps and offcuts, and I was stoked as I now don’t need to collect it and post it up for ppl to come and take away. So we boxed them up and dropped him home with them. We got along really well, and he can’t wait until we start cutting some timber on Tuesday. So really looking forward to next week. Just abit of clearing up for me to do over the weekend.

23.01.2022 Willba and I in the middle of getting some work done. Workshop all tidied, and Willba’s first experience with he Thicknesser. I have 5 slabs of this and this was the narrowest and easiest to cut to fit in the Jet Thicknesser. Slab of sassafras cut 200mm wide and dressed. ... Absolutely gorgeous colours, even red which I do not believe I’ve ever had. See more

23.01.2022 Great News, I have Willba (17yo) starting to work for me Thursday. Very thankful to my friend Adrian Phillips who’s a boat builder by trade and teaches at the Franklin Boat Building facility (Huonpine boats) and Willba’s Systema instructor. Willba is actually really keen to start and Adrian gave him a safety run through using his workshop as we have some very similar tools. ... So looking forward to having an offsider and helping a young local out. Turns out I know his mother from being my children’s after school carer. Tassie’s very small. He may get to know the dust extractor very well before he hits the saw table. But LOTS of stock to start getting processed.

22.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Just an update. Had a friend take 3 chunks of 600mm x 6xxmm x 110-130mm and slice for me as I can’t lift them. ... And another friend came round today and removed my saw blade and managed to clear all the slices of timber caught up against the old blade. I have a new NDIS Support person starting tomorrow so I’lol have him box up blocks and slabs as I get into cutting up some beautiful sass, and see how far I can keep going. The reverse of 1 chunk looks like the ripped slab below. Can’t wait to see them dressed, really excited. I also have Figured/fiddleback blackwood and fiddleback/ringed Myrtlestop slice up also. So those that contact me via PM expressing interest in ordering, I will contact you with pictures first. Then post up some stock.

21.01.2022 Spelt Sassafras slabs. 40mm x 11mm x 150mm $15ea, $12.50 each for 8 or more. Follow up slabs will be 45mm x 10mm x 150mm. ... 1st 3 boards cut into slabs. 2nd board will be sliced 45mm then each block sliced 10mm. If happy with results all 4 pictured will be cut that way. I managed to cut these as I had an order from Fix Kuset for 8pairs @$100.

14.01.2022 A friend who’s a joiner/carpenter by trade offered to take some of my chunks of Sassafras a few weeks back to dress them and slice them 200mm wide for me to process. He took the 3 largest chunks/slabs 600mm x 600mm+ x 120-130mm. He literally just dropped them off to me and WOW, this load of sassafras looked very very plain due to being aged, faded and roughly sawn. Even has what I hope is nice figured sections of Spelt, end photos you can see the paler looser grain.

13.01.2022 Willba’s first go slicing some 150mm Sass boards 40mm thick into 45mm wide blocks. And Wow, what gorgeous Sassafras markings. Stoked.

13.01.2022 Tomorrow’s slabs. 45mm x 10mm x 150mm More Sassafras, Lacy Sheok, Curly/Fiddleback Myrtle, Flamed Myrtle.

13.01.2022 Willba and I had a productive afternoon organising stock and then a little cutting of 1 curly Myrtle length beside the caravan door. And I ripped several lengths of Lacy Sheoak, putting an end to the boot. Caravan was too full, so we pulled out all the slabs, chunks and burls. Except all the thinner lengths of black heart sas which I have a tonne of to process. The foresters loaded up for a trip down to Cradoc (Gourmet Farmer Territory) to add to my collection. ... All the burls are layed out on the dinner table as they are all for being sliced, very soon. Focusing on getting organised so that it’s full steam ahead with cutting and a clear direction for my head.

10.01.2022 Hi all, Still trying to organise to find someone to pay to cut timber for me, due to my back and anxiety linked to chronic pain. GP called and left a msg RE my CT scan no disc damage from Hilux crash, but with my arthritis in 3 vert, I now have it in more places. My NDIS support worker helped me get my dust extractor finally connected to both my bandsaw and saw table, and my NDIS Gardner helped me big time and got my dust extractor bags fitted back on. ... One of my Sassafras Burl I’ve just picked bark off, as teaser. I have both of my Timber guys prepared to help me out with breaking down some timber. And I’ve made contact with the local Men’s Shed via email as requested, today. I can find even a nice retiree to come in and give me a hand getting back on track and give them some extra cash or some timber if they’d prefer as they’re all timber guys, so you never know what’s worth more to some. Thankyou to everyone for your patience. Sass slabs still available. And inbox me if you are wanting to put an order together. As I do have a little bit of stock cut, and also means what I cut next will be able to be tailored to your order. Dan

10.01.2022 Managed to be able to get out and slice some Sassafras this afternoon. Backs a tad sore, just having a rest but stoked to have cut the Sassafras and def not disappointed with it, look lovely IMO. Slab size is 40mm x 10mm x 150mm. 8 pairs sold. ... Tomorrow I should have 45mm x 10mm x 150mm slabs cuts. Same price and 4 more boards remaining to cut of this batch. Looking at $15pair. 10 pairs of Sassafras Slabs available at present.

08.01.2022 A couple of clients this week have sent me photos. 1st is last fortnights Sassafras slabs (10 pairs still available $15ea or 8+ $12.50) used on a knife by Fix Kusek. 2nd & 3rd are from raw live edge pieces, Stabalised snd resin cast by James Lang. And I believe some are available for purchase. ... Keep those pics coming guys, it’s the most rewarding part and I’m happy to share your work.

06.01.2022 After showing Willba a couple of mixed dyed cactus resin we discovered blocks were sunken. So pulled in all the colours to check and went through my 5Gal chamber that’s been soaking for several months also. Managed to plucked and in the oven now, another late night but...
