21.01.2022 Dear Customers this has just been sent out by the Master Plumbers Association of Tasmania. CONSUMER WARNING PLEASE SHARE In July this year the regulator (CBOS) introduced a Restricted Roofing Endorsement (RRE) to appease a small group of whinging builders who maintained that due to their isolated geographic location they were unable to get a qualified roofer and that was holding up their building works. Suffice to say this has turned out to be untrue.... Our overarching concern is that builders are being deemed eligible to hold a Restricted Roofing Endorsement without any qualification all they have to do is self-certify that they are competent. We are not saying that builders are incompetent we are saying that to undertake roofing work (as is the case with any other legally prescribed work) builders must undertake the same qualification that all other licensed roof plumbers are required to. There is no short cut to roofing and it is a very technical and specialist skill. If you are a consumer, please ensure that any roof work that you have done is undertaken by a fully licenced roof plumber. Master Plumbers sees a lot of dodgy work out there and the costs to fix this defective work often runs into the hundreds of thousands. Please dont go for the cheapest go for the best - a fully licensed tradesperson.
