25.01.2022 SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD First in with $850 gets this beauty. 56 Oval Beetle. Complete front and rear end, could be rolling again with a little effort. Floor pan very rusty as is the heater channels etc etc. Probably not as bad as the 54 we rescued.... First in best dressed. Located Launceston Tasmania. Can deliver statewide for an additional $50. When was the last time you saw an oval for sale on Facebook for $850!?!
25.01.2022 The first find for 2020! Heres a little beauty Elliott and I dragged home today. Driven to a bush block back in 2002 where it stayed until today! 65 in Sea Blau paint, with its original 1300cc engine. Usual rust but 100% complete with old school radio
24.01.2022 Sold sold sold sold!!!! It’s been a while since we’ve dragged home a Lowlight Deluxe Microbus! Let alone a 1970 wide 5 model! This bus has got a story for sure. Converted to run a water cooled motor at some point in its life, it has been parked up deep in the Tasmanian hills awaiting her forever home.... We’ve had an engine and a box in storage for the last few years, and this is the Kombi that it deserves to go into. A really good solid project that will make her new owner super happy. There is some original paint hiding under some of the panels, minor rust in the roof gutter, rear wheel arch, front floor. Sills look really good! Nearly complete, missing all seats except for the drivers, the passenger door mechanism, rear valance and probably the engine cradle. Most of the quarter vents are missing and I’m sure there are a few more little trinkets missing here and there, but look at it. How cool is that patina! Has four wheels with nearly new tyres, shiny original hubcaps and a freshly painted VW Badge on her nose. There is a bent out of shape deluxe rear bar (missing the deluxe bits) in the rear. Engine and box will be in the rear of her, as-well as any other lowlight stuff we can find in the shed. The engine is nearly complete and we were told it was a runner, but probably like most things needs a refresh. We’ve given her a pressure clean and a quick clean out. Price includes delivery Tasmania wide. First in best dressed.
23.01.2022 Here’s something for you Holden folk that we recently discovered and saved! William found this VK SL Commodore resting in a paddock for many years and felt like she deserved better! His grandparents had a dark green VK Calais that has unfortunately been lost for many years so he always keeps an eye out incase he finds that car! This beauty will not be hitting the market and is instead off for a mechanical restoration before she hits the road for the first time since 2004. Keep an eye out for this one!
22.01.2022 Sold sold sold! Fancy a summer project? CB 190! We’ve got everything off this bad boy we need to complete the green 68 Country Buggy project, and this is better off going to someone else in need of a good few months in the shed/early divorce from their loved one... ... Please note this car no longer has the Country Buggy seats or horn button. These items are being kept by us! CB190 is not on its original floorpan. The rear is IRS but the front end is king pin. It is missing the original CB front end unfortunately. There is rust in all the usual places. Pictures form most of the description. Certainly not the worst CB we have come across and has the basis for a really rewarding restoration. I mean these don’t come up everyday! Located Bellingham, 40 minutes north of Launceston. I have a feeling this will sell quick so if your keen, call! Sold!
22.01.2022 SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD Any interest in this old girl? Id like my trailer back 62 Split Kombi, 11 Window. Not for the faint hearted infact Id suggest parts only! All running gear there minus the engine. Only the back door and engine lid are missing. Easy to be made to role on four wheels, this is great for panel sections or a very very keen resto. $3000 delivered anywhere in Tasmania and that price is firm. If youre super keen, drop us a line
22.01.2022 Cant work out if this is somewhere in Europe or the holding yard for tassievwpickers! Most of Tasmania last night got smashed with snow right down to sea level. 2020 what a year!
21.01.2022 The inaugural Tassievwpickers Christmas dinner! Elliott looks quite happy despite dim sims not being available on the menu
21.01.2022 Today "Farmbug" went to her new home on the mainland! Best of luck to her new owner Tim
21.01.2022 Second Lot! We have another Covid Project (or two!) A 1964/1966 1300 Beetles. Build one out of the two! The 64 has a pretty good body, but has had a front end bingle and had the rear end Baja’d... no engine. Minor floor rust and a bit in the pillars. ... The 66 was a ripper original car, until the previous owner in their wisdom decided to tap it out of the way with his excavator, crumpling the front end.. no front suspension or engine but the original log books are still hiding in the glovebox! Has rust in the usual places, complete interior. We have a straight front cut/rear cut to be included. Delivery Tasmania wide can we be arranged! $2000 the lot. First in best dressed!
20.01.2022 What a great turn out as usual at the Turners Beach Berry Patch! With over 100 Volkswagens on display and a swap meet, there were a few bargains to be had. We will be back again next year, and a massive hello to everyone that came over and said Gday!
20.01.2022 Look out you mainlanders. For the next three weeks the Tassievwpickers are on tour!
19.01.2022 If you guessed a double door panel van you would have been right! This old bus has been off the road many years and despite plenty of knocks and grazes is uncut and has minimal rust. It was nearly a 700km round trip to drop off the 70 Microbus to her new owner, and to drag this beauty onto the trailer! ... This one will be getting a refurb so stay tuned for update on the progress!
19.01.2022 Continuing on with a bit of a shed clean out... is there any interest in another Country Buggy? KO713 has its story listed on our page, it was a shed find by the Aussiekombihunter (Sam) and Rusty Rescue (Aaron) earlier this year. It’s on a beetle pan, missing the original front suspension but I’ve managed to piece together the following parts to go with:... CB Reduction Hub Gearbox CB Steering Wheel and Horn Button CB Seats (need major work) Spare set of tail light lenses. This is a jump in and drive car with full Tasmanian. rego. Included is a roof and curtains (roof had a minor mishap and needs repair). Strong 1500 engine. There is some minor rust in the battery tray (minor) and it’s had a lick of paint 30 years ago and is cracking in parts. But it’s a running registered Country Buggy! It does everything a CB should and will cruise rather happily at 70mph And what’s more it’s priced with everything for a realistic $17,500. Located Bellingham, 40 minutes north of Launceston. That’s an hour from the Devonport Ferry.
19.01.2022 Youve gotta move quick! Nothing like a phone call from our mate Sam aka The Aussie Kombi Hunter, who got put onto this bus from a keen spotter Grady. What was even better was it was in basically our own backyard, and a short drive and a wallet full of cash and this 62 was on its way home!... She has been sitting for the best part of 35 years at former hippie community in the North East of Tassie. Driven into this location, she has spent the last few years as a storage shed. Youd be super keen to restore this one, but as she was a splitty, she couldnt miss the trailer home. If youre chasing a bit of garden art, or are a wizard with a welder, drop us a line
19.01.2022 A massive big shoutout and Happy Birthday to Elliott who turns the big 25 today!!! And to celebrate his birthday, a small snapchat from one of our more recent adventures We will be back on the road in the next two weeks and cant wait to share what we have found. Stay tuned
19.01.2022 Were baaaaaaaaaack! A sneak peek at what we were up to today... stay tuned
17.01.2022 UPDATE: So I have located the current owner of the 63, and now the fun part is purchasing a car that isnt for sale. Thanks to all the likes and shares! And I will keep you all updated...... The one that got away... This was my first going beetle that I bought all the way back in 2003, the one that really kicked the Volkswagen addiction up a notch! All at the tender age of 11. I had put all my pocket money together and paid a grand total of $200 for it! (Didnt look as flash as it does in the pictures...) Stupid old me sold it back in 2012 and last I heard it was in Victoria, slammed on the ground with a set of red stock wheels. I desperately would love to purchase it back and bring it back to Tasmania. The vin number is 5289743 and I will be in Victoria/NSW/Queensland from the 11th-23rd of November and would be so happy to bring her back home on the boat. Can anyone shed any light on this missing bug? Your shares and support would be awesome! William.
17.01.2022 All loaded up ready for delivery to her new owner tommorow! We have something being collected on the way back home tommorow... any guesses as to what it could be? Hint. It has belly pans.
17.01.2022 No Elliott today, but out and about for the first time in a while delivering this plum, and picking up another for a mate! Stay tuned.....
16.01.2022 SOLD One of the trinkets from yesterdays haul. A 56! Still has the gearbox and front suspension, but not rolling. Very very rusty heater channels and pillars. Youd be keen to restore this one, but how cool is the patina! ... Expect rust everywhere, but was still too good to chop up. Loaded on the trailer ready for delivery! Maybe a good bit of garden art? Located Launceston Tasmania. Not too keen on shipping to the mainland unless you organise it yourself. Prefer to go locally to one of us tassie dubbers! $900 delivered Tasmania wide!
15.01.2022 With the 58 Beetle off the road awaiting a new muffler (long story but it fell off on Christmas Day...) One half of the boys is out and about in the XA Fairmont on the Wild West coast of Tassie for the next couple of days! If you have leads on anything that you think should be saved down this way, (not just Volkswagens!) shoot us a message. If we buy it we will make it worth your while!
14.01.2022 Stay tuned for today’s recovery!
13.01.2022 A few words from William on the demise of Beetle production that appeared in the local newspaper!
12.01.2022 Loading the trailer on the ute for a recovery tommorow! Whats coming home on the trailer do you think?
12.01.2022 Our faces arnt saying much, but Sunday we are not picking up one Volkswagen, we are picking up five. Watch this space
11.01.2022 Update! SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD. She runs and drives! Not sure if it stops or not though... We are having a bit of a paddock clear-out. This little gem we rescued back at Christmas and with a little time got her running.... 100% Complete. Approx 1966 model. Located in Northern Tasmania. $2000. First in best dressed!
11.01.2022 This is what we want to see! Elliott and I spending some quality 1.5m time apart getting this bug ready for sale! It always helps to hear them running!
11.01.2022 We found ourselves doing a delivery to Devonport late last week to drop off a front suspension and pick up of a couple of bits from this bloke! Great to meet you Andrew and we cant wait to see your way cool 65 Bug back on the road!
11.01.2022 Occasionally there are other vehicles parked on the Tassievwpickers hoist. William is a sucker for old Falcons and with a bit of help from his mates at Donnymotive they breathed a bit of life into this classic 80s Fairlane! Now enough of the old Falcons, we promise the next post will be Volkswagen related!
10.01.2022 Update! You are looking at the new owner of our 54/55 Oval Project. Thanks a heap to Adam who travelled all the way north to load his panelvan up! Looking forward to seeing the progress of this old girl
10.01.2022 It’s not very often we buy a Volkswagen and drive it home... but today Elliott drove this beauty! A refreshing change from the car trailer hey Elliott? I reckon there has only been a handful of water pumping VW’s pass through our hands, and with summer coming up we couldn’t say no!
09.01.2022 Five years after Elliott and William first started dragging Volkswagen’s around the Tasmanian countryside together, the boys decided it was time to get a logo created to turn into some merchandise! Visie Creative were contacted and their brief was something retro and automotive themed and this is the final result. Looks good hey!
09.01.2022 A shoutout to our 600 strong followers. Im having a bad night working on the Type 3 (The Nugget) and need a good distraction. What Volkswagens do you own? Drop a comment below! - William.
09.01.2022 Nothing like a sneaky Christmas gift! I found this little fella on gumtree of all places, and used to drive past it everyday when I was living in Hobart back in 2011. After a few minor issues in driving her back last week I had her all wrapped up ready to present to my partner Summer for Christmas!... I hope you love your new (old) 1966 Type3 Fastback TS in Ruby Red!!!! Now for the fun part, making it all nice and shiny again! Watch this space!!!!
08.01.2022 Its been a few weeks since our last Volkswagen find, and Elliott and I were getting itchy to find something... so last night we loaded the trailer on the back of the Colorado and off we went! This little beauty was dragged home last night! She isnt for sale but we do have three Morris Minis coming this Friday. And theyll be cheap! does anyone here like Minis and are there any takers?!
07.01.2022 There’s some more cars on their way to Tassievwpickers HQ which means this gem has to find a new home! Stay tuned for the new arrival later this week... Originally found by William, sold to Elliott and then back to William last week, this 66 Beetle needs a stable long term home This is a bloody ripper. A lot of potential for a cheap ratter or a candidate for a full restoration! ... She runs and drives! No foot brakes due to being sitting dormant for so long. Rust in the front wheel arches and a touch in the pillars. Minor smidge in the heater channels. Floor looks good but you’re going to replace the rear valance (rear cut included.) Interior is average but this is a 100% complete beetle and they are getting a touch harder to find nowadays. Motor is running but would really benefit from new plugs and leads. If you come and view you can drive her around the paddocks! Apologies to everyone who has messaged us in the past chasing an early beetle project but we have so many people asking us to keep an eye out for one that we simply can’t message everyone. $6000. Located Bellingham (40 minutes north of Launceston in Northern Tasmania). Preference to a Tasmanian as Covid restrictions makes it hard for the mainlanders. Can organise delivery Tasmania wide but not interstate.
07.01.2022 Whilst the boys are branded as the Tassievwpickers, they have a passion that extends passed the humble VW. Whilst still focusing predominantly on rescuing Vintage Volkswagen’s, there may be some cars that we post up stories about saving and the background behind them. This leads to today’s post about William’s Fairmont. ... As a kid, William’s next door neighbour Kevin had an original old XA Fairmont. William would always try and sneak a peak of the big car through the gap in the hedge when it was occasionally pulled out for a drive and a wash. In 2012 I bought this XA Fairmont off my next door neighbour Kevin. He has bought it brand new on the 1st of September 1972 from GM Jackson’s in Launceston. Kevin was rarely driving the car since buying a brand new VW Polo the previous year. When you’re young and silly you make poor decisions and I sold it to a collector in 2014 and regretted it ever since. Six years later I managed to buy it back. It was one of those cars that I was not going to let get away. Not long after I bought it back I went to visit Kevin and he is still alive and kicking at 90! Boy was happy to see his old car again!!! Tassievwpickers. More than Volkswagen’s.
05.01.2022 Update! I spy with my little eye, a sneaky little 64! This beauty was discovered by William last night whilst on a mission to collect some 307 Chev V8 parts for a mate. Needless to say a deal was done and she is coming home to Tassievwpickers HQ! And this 71 Superbug Baja managed to be scored on the way home. A good Saturday!
05.01.2022 Heres a video of our 12 hour Sunday Volkswagen Recovery Mission! This is the best part of our hobby! Its all about finding them, buying them, then the journey to go collect them!
05.01.2022 When it’s Sunday afternoon and you get a call from Elliott saying he wants to sell his 66 Beetle, what’s the first thing you do? Grab the trailer and head to the ATM! Elliott has had this ripper little 66 since 2015 when William originally sold it to him after discovering it in a shed on the outskirts of Launceston. Selling him this Beetle was the start of Tassievwpickers! In true fashion it was hidden in a ‘barn’ all sealed up from the world. Until today!
04.01.2022 Out and about on the hunt! Can you guess what town that Elliott and I are parked at?!
04.01.2022 UPDATE: And as quick as that, shes sold! Thanks for the interested everyone. If youre chasing something, drop us a PM. We are always coming across things!... Is anyone after a nice little Winters project? 61 Beetle! Very little rust, nice and ratty and it even has an original VW radio in the dashboard. Comes with a running 1500cc motor not installed. Interested? Shoot us a PM!
04.01.2022 Update: SOLD!!!!! The third car we part salvaged is this factory Ragtop 65 Beetle. Unfortunately she had lost part of the roof from the pillars back.... The complete (but rusty) mechanism and two of the four tracks was saved and found in the remains of the car. Any interest in this roof section? $500!
04.01.2022 A big congratulations to Adam who collected the last few pieces of the 54 resto project! We will keep you all updated on the progress And on the off chance, if youre chasing a project, give us a hoy. We have a couple of beetles that need new homes.
03.01.2022 All loaded up and ready for the trip to her new home tommorow! Best of all, the trailer is heading back to HQ loaded up... any guesses?
03.01.2022 And here she is! A 1966 Baja Bug collected from Strahan on the Wild West coast of Tasmania. This old girl was abandoned at the Strahan tip earlier this year. A massive thankyou and shoutout to Mark who saved her from landfill, and sold it to us! ... The other pictures are from when I first laid eyes on this car when it sat in a car yard at East Devonport back in 2009. Enjoy!
03.01.2022 Its the worst kept secret on social media... but here it is! Our new 1968 Volkswagen Country Buggy! Found by our mate the Aussiekombihunter (Sam) and Rusty Rescue (Aaron) in a backyard in Surburban Melbourne, this is one that we needed to have. This Buggy is number 713 which wasnt on the Country Buggy registry. The previous owner was the head Volkswagen mechanic from back in the day, and he left behind a large bulk of Volkswagen parts, memorabilia and this Country Buggy whe...n he passed away. It has had a restoration a long time ago and has lost many of its original Country Buggy items, but thats all the fun of buying something like this. If you see William and Elliott our and about on Tasmanian roads, give them a toot and a wave!
02.01.2022 What better way to fight of Monday-itis and go for a beach trip with mans best friend! And Socks the dog
02.01.2022 Were back and whats more we now have 500 likes!!!!! We have been super busy with other things but heres something new! This is a find thats certainly seen better days. Up for sale as a complete job lot or will wreck!... Shes a 54/55 Beetle, ribbed door model. Car has been stripped but is mostly complete. Still have the early 36hp motor, gearbox, front end, W Decklid, Ribbed Doors, missing the original heart style tail lights but have a set of snowflakes. As I said mostly complete, but stripped to a bare shell. Extensive heater channel rust, infact its non-existent rust in the windscreen frame, rear apron, front balance etc etc. Happy to throw in a rolling 60s shell with a good bottom half if sold complete. Inbox us for more details! Delivery located statewide across Tasmania, and both cars are located in Launceston.
02.01.2022 Sold sold sold!!! A running 60’s beetle for $3000? That’s cheap... She runs and drives! No foot brakes due to being sitting dormant for so long and the lack of a master cylinder. Rust in the front wheel arches and a touch in the pillars. Minor smidge in the heater channels up the top near the pedals. Floor looks good but you’re going to replace the rear valance (rear cut included.)... Interior is average but this is a 100% complete beetle and they are getting a touch harder to find nowadays. Motor is running but would really benefit from new plugs and leads. If you come and view you can drive her around the paddocks! Apologies to everyone who has messaged us in the past chasing an early beetle project but we have so many people asking us to keep an eye out for one that we simply can’t message everyone. $3000 firm. No offers. Mainlanders will need to sort out their own transport. No holds, and please no time wasters. Located Bellingham (40 minutes north of Launceston in Northern Tasmania). Preference to a Tasmanian as Covid restrictions makes it hard for the mainlanders. Can organise delivery Tasmania wide but not interstate.
01.01.2022 Theres only been a couple of opportunities to drag one of these home, and not one has graced the Tassievwpickers HQ. Until now. Stay tuned for the unveiling tommorow! On a side note, we are not sure why the previous owner didnt draw Tasmania on the map... maybe it was fate?
01.01.2022 One of our own little cars is on display at the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania in Launceston! Head on down say hello to Phil and the team and have a gander at Herbie and Dudu the Superbug!
