17.01.2022 Congratulations to Olivia Harriss (Envoke Hair Salon, Bridgewater) and Jewelia Nalder (Mazí Hair, Hobart) who are joint winners of this year’s Sophie Bobbi Memorial Award. The Sophie Bobbi Memorial Award is a bursary provided by Sophie’s parents, Pete and Helena, in memory of their daughter who studied hairdressing at TasTAFE and worked at Nischler salon. The award is selected by TasTAFE teachers and recognises a TasTAFE third year apprentice hairdressing student who has a talent and passion for the profession. The award has a special personal connection this year. One of Mazi’s owners, Alexandra Kontos, was a good friend of Sophie’s, and fellow-owner Larissa Bresnehan was the first recipient of the Sophie Bobbi award.

15.01.2022 Last night our Diploma of Community Services student, Heetham Hekmat, was named Vocational Student of the Year at the Australian Training Awards. Heetham came to Australia as a refugee, fleeing his home in Iraq and spending seven years waiting in Syria for safe settlement. When he arrived in Australia he spoke virtually no English but has since gone on to complete eight certificates and a Diploma. He spoke to a small gathering in Hobart last night to watch the online awards ceremony. And yes, we did have a tear in our eye listening to this! #ATA2020
