25.01.2022 Last week, two Adventure Tour Guiding groups were finally able to undertake a field trip to the Freycinet National Park. Completing the Freycinet Peninsula Ci...rcuit, the groups became more familiar with the natural and cultural values of the area, the tracks and the campsites. The students focused on guiding a group dependent walkers [their fellow students] for a day, using the leading and group management techniques previously demonstrated by their teachers. The students were also assessed on enhancing their guests experience by interpreting aspects of the natural environment and catering for their group. 23.01.2022 Our team have announced the recipient of the Dave Gardner Student of the Year Award for 2019 is Damon Kirkpatrick. This award was created to recognise the achievements of the most outstanding Adventure Guiding student of the year. Damon has performed at a consistently high level in all subject areas of the Adventure Tour Guiding III program. His exceptional attitude, people skills and commitment to hard work, demonstrate he has all the attributes of an outstanding tour gui...de. Immediately upon completion of his training, Damon commenced employment as a bushwalking guide with Tasmanian Walking Co. and Tasmanian Expeditions. The award has been named to honour the memory of Dave Gardner, a teacher with the Tourism Department at Drysdale from 2000 to 2002. Whilst at Drysdale, Dave developed and coordinated the Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation, in response to a need to train adventure tour guides and outdoor instructors in Tasmania. Dave was a very experienced outdoor guide, leader and instructor with a particular passion for rock climbing and mountaineering. Unfortunately Dave was tragically killed on New Years Eve 2003 in an avalanche on Mt Tasman in New Zealand, whilst guiding a six-day expedition. Today, Damon was presented with a voucher from our award sponsors - Mountain Creek Outdoors to the value of $250. Congratulations Damon on a well deserved win!

We were delighted with the prime autumnal conditions which gave us every opportunity to ex...plore the colossal sea cliffs, discover deep caves and to view marine wildlife, including a visit to an Australian Fur Seal colony and many fly-bys from Australias second largest raptor, the White-Bellied Sea Eagle. Wonderful experiences for all involved!
