25.01.2022 Tastex Knitwear and Uniforms is an Australian Disability Enterprise with a fully operational knitting mill in Glenorchy. Tastex has been producing knitwear in ...Tasmania since 1946. Tastex is the only knitting mill in Australia that provides employment, training and support for people with intellectual disabilities. Tastex employs 24 people, 15 of whom have intellectual disabilities. Tastex believe that everyone and in particular people with disabilities should be given the opportunity to reach their potential. Thus their role and purpose is to enhance the employment, educational and general life outcomes of people with disabilities and to improve self-esteem and self-suffciency. All TasTex employees are encouraged to undertake recognised training program. With increasing overseas competition in the Tasmanian market place TasTex needed to upgrade their equipment to stay competitive and enable the on-going employment of people wiht a disability. In Round 26 (2013) the Tasmanian Community Fund provided $47 000 to support the purchase of an electronic knitting machine. TasTex also recognised their need to diversity to remain strong in the marketplace and with TCF support in round 30 they were able to purchase a new embroidery machine. The purchase of this machine has led to a new product range which has extended the experience of employees and great employment opportunities.

10.01.2022 Weve been so saddened to hear of the bushfire damage around Australia, but are grateful to have raised over $1650 since Friday for the bushfire crisis by selli...ng these locally-made, recycled Australian wool soft toys from local disability enterprise DevilKnits. 100% of the price is donated directly to these three organisations supporting wildlife recover from bushfires: wombats go towards Nature Foundation SAs wildlife recovery fund, koalas for WIRES Wildlife Rescue in NSW (currently sold out), and Tasmanian devils for Wildcare Incorporateds injured and orphaned wildlife fund (theres some bushfires here in Tasmania, too). They make a great gift, and are child and pet safe. Theyre for sale on our front desk this week. Alternatively, follow the links below to make a direct donation: https://naturefoundation.org.au/supp/wildlife-recovery-fund https://www.wires.org.au/donate/emergency-fund https://wildcaretas.org.au//wildcare-injured-and-orphaned/ Thank you to all guests, visitors and locals who have taken one of these cute critters home with them - together we can make a difference to our native animals who need our support.

07.01.2022 Since 2000 the Tasmanian Community Fund has awarded more than $100 million to the Tasmanian community through more than 2 800 projects. The projects have ranged... in size from $440 through to $1.5 million and have been very diverse in their focus. This video is snapshot of some of the small and medium projects that the Tasmanian Community Fund has supported over the last few years. It symbolises the TCF's investment in the Tasmanian community and importantly demonstrates the work of Tasmanian community organisations. Our thanks for Harvest Launceston, Sorell Council (Dodges Ferry Skate Park), Avoca Memorial Hall Committee, Devonport City Council (Devonport Road Safety Bike Park), Slipstream Circus, Launceston Life Saving Club, Wynyard Landcare, Tastex Knitwear and Uniforms, Howrah Men's Shed, Devonport Christian School, Friends of Randalls Bay (Landcare Tasmania), City of Launceston RSL Band and Kentish Council (Working Art Space Sheffield's Sheffield Mosaic Pathway). Over the next few weeks we will share the individual videos from each of these organisations. The TCF looks forward to continuing to meet the needs of Tasmanian communities.

02.01.2022 YOUR HELP IS NEEDED URGENTLY - THERES NO GOVERNMENT FUNDING FOR WILDLIFE CARERS. These apocalyptic fires are beyond our comprehension. Its like fighting a mo...nster with a stick. Two carers in NSW are in hospital with critical injuries after trying to save their home and their wildlife in care. Firies managed to save their baby wombats, but all others perished. We need you to dig deep and help us help those who are trying to protect and save our wildlife. Yesterday we donated $10k each to Blue Mountains Wildlife Rescue and Wild2Free kangaroo Sanctuary. Our target is $100,000; $10,000 to 10 groups and individuals on the front line. $20 will buy a bag of kangaroo pellets and help save the fire survivors. PLEASE, IF YOU CAN GIVE A FEW DOLLARS WE GUARANTEE IT WILL GET TO THOSE WHO NEED IT. Please click on the link below and help make a difference. https://wildlife-rescue-sunshine-coast-inc.giveeasy.org/hel Thank you.
