09.01.2022 **Optical Astronomy Focus** Just like the radio telescope at Mt Pleasant Radio Observatory, the optical telescope at UTAS Greenhill Observatory can also suffer from unpredictable and weird little problems that need to be solved quickly so the down-time on the telescope is as little as possible. Hear from Dr Andrew Cole as we learn how inflatable rubber tubes and bicycle pumps, as well as how constantly running up and down the stairs near the telescope, saved two observatio...n sessions at Bisdee Tier. https://www.tastrofest.space/optical-astronomy-1 University of Tasmania Inspiring Tasmania National Science Week National Science Week Tasmania NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration
09.01.2022 **Bedtime Stories with Shanna** As promised, we bring you another bedtime story from Tales of Science and Magic! 'Eight Aussie Spidernauts' tells the story of how author and Aerospace Engineer, Dr Shanna Rudov-Clark helped 26 Australian school students research, design and undertake an experiment to see if spiders could spin a web in space! 05.01.2022 *****Thank you to everyone who has joined us for our 2020 ‘Explorers Edition‘ ****** It has been an unusual journey and our volunteers have worked really hard to take you places that you might not have been before, helped you relive some great memories, or given you a new skill to share with others. We are very glad we could give a (kind-of) sense of continuance and have one less cancellation for the year. But really, we want to thank you all on behalf of our team for suppo...rting our event. We have had some very encouraging feedback and considering we have never done this before, it has been a learning experience for us too. Even without a three-day event, it still took loads of work (and a good dash of fun!), to make this version happen, and there are not enough words to say how grateful we are for the following support: TastroFest would like to thank National Science Week for their incredible support and grant funding, Tasmanian National Science Week Coordinating Committee, University of Tasmania, Eagle Eye Photography, Benjamin Alldridge Photography, Sarah Mae Beckett, Central Coast Council, Simon Ellingsen, Mount Pleasant Radio Observatory, Stefan Dieters, Gary Wilson, Coral Expeditions, Maritime Museum of Tasmania, John Wadsley, Astronomical Society of Tasmania, Grote Reber Museum, Luke Tscharke, Scott F Pooke, Orbital Projects South Pacific, Young Tassie Scientists - past & present, Dark Sky Tasmania, Landon Bannister, UTAS Greenhill Observatory, Andrew Cole, Tales of Science and Magic, Shanna Rudov-Clark, Woolnorth Tours, Laura Dabner, Ben Swanson, Sharon Freeman, Daniel Lam, Odille Esmonde-Morgan, Brett Longden, Benjamin Alldridge, Andrew Phipps, and all of their people behind the scenes, that have helped us bring you this edition. TastroFest will return in 2021 and we will have a brand new home in Ulverstone, in the meantime, please catch up on any missed videos at our website www.TastroFest.com and stay tuned for updates throughout the year. All the very best - The TastroFest Team!

04.01.2022 **Astrophotography Focus** One of the first known photos in the realm of astrophotography was taken by John William Draper in the 1840s. His subject: The Moon. It certainly doesn't look all that impressive, but at the time it was an amazing accomplishment. Luckily for us, cameras are a little more advanced now so we can capture some wonderful images.
