17.01.2022 UPDATE 4 JUNE 2020 We have been asked many questions in the comments below. You will find most are answered in our Frequently Asked Questions at: www.parks.ta...s.gov.au//frequently-asked-questions-on-easing and the Alerts page on our website at: www.parks.tas.gov.au/explore-our-/know-before-you-go/alerts If after reading the relevant information, you still have unanswered questions, you can find national park and field centre contact details at: www.parks.tas.gov.au/about-us/contact-us/contact-details We thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to welcome you back safely to our parks and reserves. ______________________________________________________________ Tasmanians can once again enjoy their favourite parks and reserves this long weekend, with Stage 2 restrictions to ease from 3pm Friday, 5 June. The easing of restrictions will mean our parks and reserves are once again open to all Tasmanians, with the 30 kilometre travel limit no longer in place. Camping in our stunning parks and reserves is a much-loved part of the Tasmanian way of life, and this news will be warmly welcomed by campers ahead of the June long weekend. Some campgrounds need to be booked. Please go to the Parks and Wildlife Service website for information on the campground that you intend to visit and stay at. People who intend to camp should continue to adhere to physical distancing standards and Public Health regulations. Campers are also advised to bring their own toilet paper, soap and hand sanitiser. So, what does this announcement mean? You can walk in parks and reserves across the state (the 30km restriction has been lifted) Gathering for picnics or other recreational activities is now allowed, subject to limits on group sizes for different activities (maximum group size is 20 persons at a time for an outdoor gathering). Camping is allowed at parks and reserves with some exceptions to enable additional planning and preparation. Camping will reopen on the Overland Track, Frenchmans Cap, and Walls of Jerusalem on 15 June. An announcement on how this will be managed will be made over the next few days. Three Capes Track associated with the multi-day Three Capes experience and Maria Island will reopen on 15 June. Access at Cradle Mountain is limited with Dove Lake Road closed to all vehicle traffic. The shuttle bus to Dove Lake will resume on 15 June. Ben Lomond remains closed at the park boundary at the base of Jacobs Ladder. Access to the plateau will resume on 15 June. Check the PWS website for a detailed list of which campgrounds are not open. If campgrounds and car parks are full, please move on and return at another time Physical distancing of at least 1.5 metres between each other must be adhered to All visitor centres and remaining campgrounds will reopen to the public on 15 June. For more information visit the PWS website and read the frequently asked questions - www.parks.tas.gov.au
16.01.2022 If youve seen a Tasmanian tiger, itll likely have been in black and white footage or as a discoloured taxidermy mount. In the collection stores of the Austral...ian Museum is this beautiful specimen which has kept its vibrant fur thanks to minimal exposure to light or touch. 10.01.2022 The Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area is priceless. As Tasmanians, it is our duty to protect this place on behalf of humanity. But today, we learned that... Halls Island could be given to developers to build luxury tourism accommodation for the price of a rubbish tip. It is a stunning indictment on how little the Liberals think our precious wilderness is worth. The World Heritage Area is not for sale. Nor should it be for lease for the price of a rubbish tip. If you agree, please take a moment and share this Facebook post. https://greensactive.org/campaigns/wilderness-not-for-sale/ - https://www.theaustralian.com.au//931c33021002a74a4dc7c279

Local company East Coast Constructions will build new toilet facilities at Encampment Cove and Frenchs Farm campsites. Tenders are now open for a different project - to construct stage two of the wastewater transfer system for the Jetty and Penitentiary amenities blocks in the popular Darlington Precinct. Work on connecting the Jetty and Penitentiary amenities block to the existing wastewater treatment facility through a new transfer system is expected to begin in a couple of months. 03.01.2022 Autumn in Tasmania means the turning of the fagus The days are getting shorter and the temperature is dropping and right now the Tasmanian highlands are hostin...g a riot of colour as part of the annual turning of the fagus. The fagus, or deciduous beech, turns gold, red and orange during the cooler autumn months. It is Australias only cold climate deciduous tree and is only found in Tasmania. This year, although parks are closed and we need to stay home and cant visit the fagus as it turns, we are fortunate that work continues behind the scenes in our parks and reserves and staff at Mount Field and Cradle Mountain have been able to capture this natural event while on location undertaking maintenance and upgrade works. We know many of you are disappointed not to be able to view this spectacle first hand because we are too! But we hope you enjoy the images and look forward to welcoming you back when it is safe to do so. For those of you who can access the World Wide Web, here is a link to Googles Street View footage of Tarn Shelf at Mount Field National Park, recorded during the fagus turning season 2019. You can go on a virtual tour and see if you can spot the fagus along the way. https://www.google.com//data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sXle8AMx3pqk4Sc Image: Autumn fagus, Cradle Mountain, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, 2015
