20.01.2022 A great opportunity to find out more about a beautiful but elusive species.

20.01.2022 A wildlife carer in the US is asking for input from wildlife rehabilitators in Australia regarding wildlife and pain. Your participation in this survey will improve our understanding of how pain is perceived and managed in wildlife species. This data can provide significant information for targeting areas where further training, resources and research are needed, improving communication between wildlife rehabilitators and their veterinarians, and ultimately improving animal welfare by increasing knowledge of pain assessment and pain management in wildlife. It takes about ten minutes and will contribute to the on going understanding of this growing area of study. Please share with anyone you feel would be interested.

15.01.2022 Please encourage everyone, especially landholders to report raptor deaths due to power lines ... and please carers report them as well. This will allow for mitigation activities to be undertaken to help protect these precious birds.

14.01.2022 ATTENTION ALL PENGUIN LOVERS - INFORMATION NIGHT At Penguin Rehab and Release a small band of dedicated volunteers is making a big difference to the local Little Penguins, but they need new recruits. They are looking for new volunteers to join them before the summer busy season starts and are holding a volunteer information evening on Thursday, November 26. Interested potential volunteers can come along and learn about who they are and what they do. They are dedicated to the ...rescue, rehabilitation, and release of sick, orphaned, or injured penguins and have successfully rehabilitated and released 36 penguins in the past 15 months as well as a variety of other seabird species. There’s always a lot to be done when caring for penguins, and life at Penguin Rehab and Release is rarely boring, with something new happening all the time. New volunteers are sure to gain a lot from joining us, and they would very much love to have them. The event will be held at 5.30pm at the Cradle Coast Authority building on Spring Street, Burnie. Contact Kathy Grieveson at [email protected] to book. See more

06.01.2022 ITS PUGGLE TIME Echidnas are out and about very early this year, so anyone who finds an echidna, please ensure they are not moved from where you find he or she or relocated at all! Dog owners please contain dogs inside if there is an echidna in the yard and if you see one on the road it can simply be moved to one side.... If injured contact Bonorong or Wildlife Management Branch DPIPWE Puggles are already in the den in some places so they have bred already. To relocate adult echidnas could be a death sentence for the puggle as mothers cannot return to feed them.
