15.01.2022 Micro green planting! This is such a fun and quick activity to do with little kids as their tendency to plant too many seeds in one spot is actually welcome here! We use cocopeat instead of potting mix so it’s not toxic and it’s a great way of reusing those plastic containers some fruit and veg come in. 15.01.2022 We celebrated 9 years since we moved to the farm with some awesome building work! We spent the weekend with some fantastic friends who helped us build a new night pen for the goats. The plan is to now alternate the goats between the two pens and grow veggies in the empty pen. This will hopefully help us take advantage of the fertile soil the goats create without having to cart it around to the garden. This new pen is twice as big as the old one and the tenants seem pleased.... Today we plated loofas, pumpkins and a bunch of leagues so we’ll see what happens..

13.01.2022 Finally caught on camera! This is Damian, the other half of Tatum Hills Farm, and mine You’ll often see me and the kids on our posts, but this one is a bit camera shy. I finally caught him showing off his freshly picked beets. ... Like me, Damian works part-time off farm. He is a scientist. On farm , he works tirelessly behind the scenes to make things happen. He is chief gardener, revegetation expert and weed controller. He is the main fencer, machine operator and builder. But most of all he is Dad, partner and big dreamer. My tendency is always to go for quick and easy (dodgy?) solutions, while he often comes up with grand plans. While the implementation time of such plans can be frustrating (to me ) many projects around here turned out way better thanks to Damian’s vision and skills. Importantly, the idea of moving here was Damian’s. 12.01.2022 Not bad for nearly no work at all! So excited to pick a few kg of potatoes from a little experiment patch we started back in April We tried the Ruth Stout method and put down a heap of old hay on the ground and left it over Winter. In Spring we added a few sprouted potatoes from the supermarket. Watered them once or twice and that’s it! ... Pretty impressed today to find these little beauties under there and as a bonus the soil is now way nicer that it was when we started. 12.01.2022 Such a relief this story has a happy ending! While taking an afternoon walk yesterday we noticed a very tiny little joey in our local mob. Babies that tiny are not usually out of the pouch. Sadly, we found his mum, dead next to one of our fences, still warm. It’s a bit of a mystery what happened to her as our fences are easy for them to go through, but it is possible that she tried to go over, fell badly and broke her neck. We immediately called the amazing team Possumwood ...Wildlife sanctuary, knowing this little baby would need their care to survive. The rescuers set themselves up near the dead mum, hoping to catch baby as he came back to her for comfort as night fell. They took it in shifts as they also had to attend another call for a poorly wombat and return to the sanctuary to feed the other rescued joeys, but luckily, at 4 am they managed to catch this little one! Today we visited the sanctuary and were delighted to see little Jessie is settling in well. Named after a lovely volunteer who was part of the rescue team taking shifts through the night, this little guy weighted in at just over 2kg. Joeys are usually well over 4kg when they leave the pouch so Jesse would not have made it on his own. While visiting, the girls got to meet the other lucky residents of this very special place.
