24.01.2022 TAVAS MUSEUM SHUT TILL THURSDAY 16th APRIL Current projections of the effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic are expected to continue to affect the health and economy of the nation, for the next several months. Our number one priority remains the safety of our visitors and our volunteers. We have taken extra precautionary measures in this museum including extra cleaning and disinfecting, cancelling all group tours and VIP tours and all international visitors at this s...tage. For the safety and wellbeing of our patrons, it is with heavy hearts we have now decided to close TAVAS museum until after Easter - from Friday 20th March until Thursday 16th April 2020 - and we will re-evaluate the re-opening in accordance with government regulations. We apologies for any inconvenience this may cause in these unprecedented times. Please keep checking back to our website www.tavas.com.au and our Facebook page for updates. Thank you to all our members and followers for all your support to date. We do hope our decision does not affect you in the short term and that you can understand why we have taken such action. Any concerns, please feel free to email us at [email protected]

24.01.2022 Based on the marketing success of his Eindecker with people standing on the wings to show how strong it was, Anthony Fokker (standing at the front with his hands on his hips) did the same thing with his Fokker D.VIII towards the very end of the war. We have a D.VIII fitted with a 102 year old original WWI rotary engine. It will be on display for the Grand Opening weekend, but we will NOT be recreating this picture. www.tavas.com.au

19.01.2022 With the easing of restrictions in QLD next month, TAVAS museum will reopen on Friday 10th July, after having been shut for almost 4 months. There will be 2 new aircraft on display. More details to come. A great opportunity to come and view this unique collection.

17.01.2022 One of the new aircraft now on display in TAVAS museum is the DH82 Tiger Moth. Although built in Australia in large numbers during WW2 to train pilots, the type was actually designed and first flew, in 1931. Come see it at the Grand Reopening weekend, this weekend only. More info at - www.tavas.com.au

16.01.2022 A huge thanks to all the volunteers who came out today to clean the museum and aircraft in readiness for next weekends grand reopening and engine run days. A great job, by a great team.

16.01.2022 Great day yesterday running engines for the public, same thing happening today 11:30am and 1:30pm at TAVAS museum Caboolture Airfield. Dont miss it. www.tavas.com.au

13.01.2022 Thanks to all the visitors who came through for the Grand Reopening today. It was great to see you and we appreciate your support. Tomorrow is the first of the 2 engine run days. Come along and see it all, only at Caboolture Airfield. www.tavas.com.au

12.01.2022 The other engine we will be running at our Grand Reopening weekend is fitted to the Red Baron Fokker Triplane. This will be operated by our new volunteer Pat (flying the Triplane in this pic), who works in the museum on Sundays. He is our resident expert on Australias 1 Sqn history and also on fighter tactics. Come in and meet Pat and our other knowledgeable volunteers, see the collection and watch the engine runs. Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July only. Members get free entry. To become a member go to http://tavas.com.au/join-tavas.php#Join

10.01.2022 Ch 7 Creek to Coast covered briefly some great footage of TAVAS museum and Chief Engineer Dave Walsh. Thanks so much Amy for making it happen. www.tavas.com.au

10.01.2022 Engine runs this weekend only. Dont miss it. More details at www.tavas.com.au

09.01.2022 This is just some of what you will see on the weekend of the Grand Reopening of TAVAS museum at Caboolture S.E.QLD. Although rotary engines look identical to radial engines, the radial, like all other engines, is fixed and spins a propeller. A rotary engine has the propeller fixed to it and the entire thing spins around its crankshaft at around 1200 rpm. If you have not heard, seen or smelt this in action before, you want to come along to this one off engine run weekend. This magnificent pic from Matt Savage at Mach One Aeromedia.

08.01.2022 The museum reopens tomorrow, Friday 10th July. On the weekend you will see WWI and pre WWI aircraft and we will run a couple of engines, a couple of times a day this weekend only. Bring the whole family along. Full details at www.tavas.com.au Strict new hygiene and cleanliness protocols are in place, with regular disinfecting of all areas. Cashless payments and hand sanitiser are available. Safe, fun, family friendly atmosphere.

07.01.2022 Although we officially reopen on Friday 10th July, we are planning a big weekend over the 11th and 12th with at least 2 different aircraft doing engine runs a couple of times each day. You wont want miss it. Come and see the collection, immerse yourself in history and stay for the engine runs.

07.01.2022 An incredible article about an incredible man and just one of his magnificent machines. We were lucky enough to meet Mikael at Oshkosh last year. https://vintageaviationecho.com/fokker-dr1/

06.01.2022 One of the aircraft we will be doing an engine run on during our grand reopening weekend (11th & 12th July) is the Fokker E.III Eindecker with its all spinning rotary engine a technology that did not continue after WW1. During the war, pilots did not trust single wing aircraft, believing them not to be as strong as biplanes. So Anthony Fokker came up with this cunning marketing photo to change their perception. Please dont try this on our Eindecker!

06.01.2022 To thank all our volunteers who work in the museum each week, we arranged Tiger Moth flights for each of them on the weekend. We even managed some formation flying with the Triplane. Thanks so much to the Tiger pilots Nick, Luke and Jordan. Photo by Katherine @AviationLoversQLD01

05.01.2022 Nat and I have been together 10 years today and to commemorate the occasion, she combined my 2 favourite things (after her of course - she just reminded me) - Me flying the Fokker Triplane and the Simpsons. This is the result.

04.01.2022 Taking me back to when I was 10 years old - my two favourite things were the Red Barons Triplane and the 69 Dodge Charger from the Dukes of Hazard. Today I got to see them together.

04.01.2022 This month marks 100 years since the Vickers Vimy G-EAOU, after flying from London to Australia, flew from Darwin to Adelaide via the East Coast. Some pilots in modern aircraft are recreating that trip this month and are arriving at Caboolture on Thursday. Huge thanks to Kevin OBrien, who mowed this massive 100 at the end of Runway 12 to greet them. Details of their flights here - www.facebook.com/southernsunjourney

03.01.2022 This large, ungainly looking aircraft (on the right) is a replica of the most successful design of 1909. It was copied by Bristol in the U.K. and renamed the Boxkite, which was used to train Australian pilots at Point Cook, Victoria. The aircraft pictured here, and many other pre WWI and WWI type aircraft, are on display at TAVAS museum, reopening Friday 10th July. www.tavas.com.au

03.01.2022 Check out our new website www.tavas.com.au Plenty of new info and pics. Thanks so much to David Foxx of www.airscapemag.com who did all the time consuming work of putting this great looking site together. Plenty more info to come so please check back every month to see the updates.

03.01.2022 Happy 90th Birthday to Jack McDonald, pictured here in his magnificent Bristol F2B Fighter in 1 Sqn Australian Flying Corps colours, on display at TAVAS museum from 10th July. www.tavas.com.au

02.01.2022 Rotary engine run today with small fire in the cowl due to a wet start. Come see this engine in action tomorrow at TAVAS museum Caboolture airfield. www.tavas.com.au

02.01.2022 The other new addition to the museum, is this full size replica Sopwith Camel. Come along this weekend to learn all about it and other WWI aircraft at this unique museums grand reopening. www.tavas.com.au

01.01.2022 Another great photo of the magnificent 1 Strutter now available as a kit from KipAero. Full write up in latest TAVAS newsletter. www.tavas.com.au

01.01.2022 Just a very brief taste of the rotary engine run on the Fokker Eindecker yesterday.- watch the tail lift off the ground even though it is tied to the ute! It and other engines are being run at 11:30am and 1:30pm today. Many people asked what is that familiar smell? Its hot castor oil, used to lubricate the engine. It smells like hot fish and chips after it has run! www.tavas.com.au
