23.01.2022 Hi all, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) are initiating changes to current rules for Income tax: when are deductions allowed for employees' transport expenses? Travel expenses are deductible where they are incurred in gaining or producing assessable income. The proposed ruling states that whether travel expenses are incurred in gaining or producing income is dependent on the following factors:... the travel occurs on work time; the travel occurs when the employee is under the direction of the employer; the travel fits within the duties of employment the travel is relevant to the practical demands of carrying out the work duties; and the employer asks for the travel to be undertaken.These factors need to be considered on balance in the context of the form and substance of the employment arrangement. Please not these are not the only factors, so if you need any advice speak to your accountant.

17.01.2022 Hi all, I recently received a letter regarding renewing my ABN. The letter was from and titled Online Business Registration.... Further reading I noticed it stated: This is not a letter from ASIC. OBR is a private business registration service provider. It provides the link www.BNrenewal.com.au / ABN=(ABN Number) to renew your business registration. In checking their website, the annual fee for renewal was $99 compared to ASIC fee of $36 and for 3 years $199 compared to $85. Be careful as there are plenty of opportunists trying to take your money. Please share with family and friends and those that operate with an ABN to be wary.
