07.01.2022 Why you should avoid scampoos! Let’s start by taking a trip down memory lane and the history of shampoo. As humans we have been using many different substances... to clean ourselves and make us smell divine for thousands of years. In the 1900s shampoo was first brought to the market and in 1927 a German man called Hans Schwarzkopf was the first to sell shampoo in liquid form. So why do we use shampoo? The main purpose for shampoo is to remove dirt and oil from the surface of the hair fibres and the scalp. There is SO many different brands of shampoo on the market that sometimes it can be overwhelming as to which one to purchase. You have possibly heard your hairdresser or someone rant about how bad supermarket shampoos are for your hair and some may think this is just a sales pitch to get you to buy their products! This is not the case and the truth is cheap shampoos are often NOT designed to be compatible with chemical hair treatment processes and in the worst cases can actually cause quite serious chemical reactions and damage to your hair. So when it comes to the perfect balayage or nice clean foils, have you ever felt like you just can’t get blonde enough? It’s a high chance it might not be your hair dresser who is the culprit, but in fact the years of supermarket products you’ve used on your hair. The build up of parabens and silicone can prevent colour, bleach and good shampoos/conditioners from penetrating, meaning that even when you try your hardest you may find that hair will take a few times to lift/colour and/or have a uneven/ inconsistent tone to them. This will be caused by the hair shaft not opening as the hair is highly coated in these chemicals. Hair dressers spend years in training, they prescribe hair care products to you for a reason, just like your doctor prescribes you a script If you love your hair then treat it right and it will love you back
