23.01.2022 Last Friday, TBBs Karen Hyde and Mark Bancroft presented a paper at the Planning Institute of Australia WA State Conference 2019. Focussing on finding the sweet spot where change can evolve and explaining the potential to deliver density more sensitively. Densification and redevelopment within our established suburbs is a complex issue. Ineffective community engagement can lead to misunderstanding and potential mistrust in the planning system and fear of the impacts of infi...ll development. They explained the visualisation and participatory design tools that have proven vital in engaging meaningfully with the community to inform Local Government policy development regarding infill propositions. Well done Karen and Mark! #PIAWA19 #stateconference2019 #engagement

22.01.2022 Today the Department of Planning, Lands & Heritage announced the first step in a significant review of the State Bushfire Protection Policy (State Planning Policy 3.7) in the form of revised mapping of bushfire prone areas in the Central Metropolitan Sub-region. The revised mapping results in a 29% reduction in residential lots affected by the policy. Similar mapping revisions will be rolled out over the rest of the metro region and the state over the next few months. As impo...rtantly, the review will also include a much-needed overall review into the State Planning Policy provisions, looking particularly at criteria for identifying fire prone areas, and special provisions for regional tourism. The Ministers announcement shows a clear recognition of many of the concerns of the planning and development sectors about the current policy settings, and TBB welcomes the move as a positive step towards a more pragmatic approach to managing this important policy issue. TBB looks forward to engaging with the Government to lend a positive voice for sensible change. If you would like to know more about this matter, or would like assistance in contributing to the conversation contact Samantha Thompson - Director, Planning Frameworks on [email protected].

18.01.2022 This morning, TBB hosted a table at the Property Council of Australia - WA Australias Developer Contributions - A New Policy For The Future Breakfast. Honourable, Rita Saffioti MLA, Minister of Transport was the keynote speaker announcing the release of the revised draft Policy. We welcome the much overdue release of this draft policy. The Minister has pointed to some important elements including: A cap on contributions for community infrastructure; More rigorous and transp...arent reporting requirements; Details of scopes and cost required to be advertised as part of a Development Contribution Scheme; and DCP required to be in place within 6 months of approval of a Local Structure Plan. The Minister also announced that there would be no levy applied to development within Metronet precincts, as was previously intended. Developer Contributions is an extremely important issue to both the private development sector and Local Government and there is universal agreement that the current policy, now a decade old, is terribly inadequate. TBB look forward to making a strong contribution on the new draft policy. Thank you to the Property Council for hosting the event and to Cedar Woods WA, Linc Property, Peet Limited and Whalan Consulting for joining us today!
