21.01.2022 A little The Mars Volta groove for your Saturday viewing pleasure! Im assuming you all like watching drum videos on Saturday evening..... This section of Intertiatic E.S.P has driven me nuts for years and Ive always fudged my way through it rather than work it properly. But when it came time to teach it to a student I realised that winging it was no longer and option so I sat down and worked it out. The first part is in 7, the second part is in 6 (or 3, whatever floats y...our boat). Its death by hi hats and ghost notes but its heaps of fun. 16.01.2022 Really enjoying diving into my favourite drum parts, it’s kept me sane through lockdown! This masterpiece, played by the legendary Matt Chamberlain, is a master study in restraint but also creativity within tight parameters. There’s no crashes, a crazy popping snare sound and a pocket that is both pushing yet relaxed. It seems simple, but it’s incredibly challenging to get all the nuances without over doing it. Hope you enjoy it as much I do playing it!

Today’s groove: the iconic Use Me by Bill Withers, with the drum part created by the ever stylish James Gadson, who’s signature Innovative Percussion, Inc. sticks I used to recreate this groove & drum break. There’s a lot of notes in it but yet it’s smooth and tasty. A masterpiece that is (yet again) fun and challenging. ... I hope you enjoy it!

13.01.2022 One of my proudest caution:thieves moments was recording this track. The Evetts Drums kit sings on it and I think it was my AK/Craviotto 14x6.5 CoBra (copper/brass) on this track which just smacks. Hopefully there will be more of this very soon!

12.01.2022 After 2 years of waiting, wishing, saving, waiting and sweating on Auspost & Customs, my beautiful AK Drums Black Beauty is here!! I dont think the photos do it any justice but its possibly the most beautiful drum Ive ever set my eyes on. I am blown away by Adrians work, he is the best metal shelled drum builder in the world by far. This was originally meant to be the wishing well at my wedding but instead its now the commemoration of it. I could think of a better way ...to do it or a better reason to stay married for ever!

09.01.2022 Any now, heres me playing it! Im still waaaaaay too excited to have it so excuse the rawness of my ideas. I used my Yamaha Music Australia EAD 10 with a tiny bit of compression on so I could capture the drum as best as I could. Its an absolute joy to play and it still hasnt quite sunk in that its real and that its mine. Scroll down for a few more videos, I tried to capture as many sounds as I could! Enjoy

07.01.2022 Heres a little snippet from my #dailypractice sessions which turned into a short & sweet little lesson. Im a massive Dave Grohl fan & this lick from Smells Like Teen Spirit is a deceptively tricky one. I thought Id isolate it and work it up to make it as powerful as Dave plays it on the recording. Its got all the grohl magic of flams and linear combos that I love and if you want to get some powerful fills into your playing, this is a great one to practice. 02.01.2022 Day 2 with the AK Drums black beauty and it just keeps getting better. Dialing in the tuning and sensitivity is a joy on this drum, its so much fun to play and experiment with. Playing along with a Tedeschi Trucks Band song in my head, if you can guess which one Ill be rapt. Recorded with a Yamaha Music Australia - Music Products EAD 10 with minimal compression and reverb.
