25.01.2022 I had the pleasure of attending the Bayside Business Network breakfast this morning with keynote speaker Gus Balbontin. A futurist, innovator and motivational speaker. Laced with humour and always on point, Gus shared his views on remaining adaptable, embracing the disruptors, and keeping our focus on the problems of our customers rather than the problems of our own businesses to remain relevant in an ever-changing business environment. I enjoyed hearing Gus speak today as I ...felt aligned to his commentary on remaining adaptable. So, whilst businesses focus on delivering and innovating products and services to meet the needs of consumers, are they as individuals giving their careers the same attention to ensure they remain relevant and able to adapt their careers into tomorrow? Some questions for personal career reflection may include: how do I remain relevant in the future world of work? What skills (both technical and soft skills) do I need to cultivate, to ensure my career has longevity? Am I embracing change and remaining curious? Can I build a truly portable career to embrace the opportunities of tomorrow? Thank you Qualtrics for delivering a great afternoon of thought-provoking interviews and insights to Work Different. Listening to Brene speak on the two irreducible needs of employees today resonated with me, as it connects with what I regularly hear in my own coaching practice from clients on what they are needing right now in the workplace. Working remotely and dealing with uncertainty like n...ever before provides the opportunity for leaders to become more vulnerable and share more of their humanity with their teams. Brene talked through the two needs that she believes we need more of in the workplace. [1] Feeling cared for and experiencing connection with fellow employees. [2] Having a sense of belonging that is, being able to show up just as we are, to be seen and mattered. 05.01.2022 Powerful questions can impact and challenge us. Often, they can provoke us to have a light bulb moment or gain a sense of clarity and perspective to an otherwise seemingly unsolvable problem or way forward. You may remember being asked a particularly powerful question at work, or witnessed a public speaker buy time with the response thats a great question when asked an unanticipated question from an astute audience member. In a coaching scenario, whether it be coaching a... client towards personal transformation or future vision, or asking a question during a 'coachable' workplace moment (to problem solve an immediate issue)- being asked the right question at the right time, can have lasting impact. Why is this? Powerful questions can interrupt the rhetoric of our internal dialogue and provide the luxury of space and time (even if its a minute or two!) to generate some surprising and often refreshing ideas. Having permission to pause and slow down, allows us to tap into our inner resources to self-solve and take carriage of our own creative ideas and solutions. 03.01.2022 The practice of leading a life with balance, intention, happiness and purpose has been a priority for me. 02.01.2022 As we emerge from our cocoon of self-isolation (albeit slowly and carefully), we may find that we have consciously (or unconsciously) transformed ourselves. Incredibly adaptable by nature, our response to the pandemic has created a changing paradigm within us; about the way in which we think about our lifestyle, our relationships, and our careers. Many organisations have innovated transforming their business models and services to adapt and thrive, whilst individuals have ...likely been on their own more personal journey re-calibrating and defining how they want to live their lives, what is important, what is now a non-negotiable. How about you? In what ways have the past months created you own personal transformation? In my coaching practice, clients often come to me with an issue or challenge they are experiencing across the spectrum of leadership, team dynamics, career direction, workplace conflict, development of their professional brand or developing EQ to name a few. 01.01.2022 Outplacement Coaching is regarded as best practice in supporting employees through redundancy. However, the complexities of todays business context amplify the need for providers to focus more consciously on the human aspect of the Outplacement Coaching process. Core to this is selecting the right coach.... Supporting an individual through change and transition can only happen effectively when an individual can bring their whole self to the coaching and be heard, listened to, and believed in.
