21.01.2022 NATURAL DYING I love the thought of being enveloped in completely natural goodness With Iso life bringing the extra time I didn't have previously, I can finally havva play SO in another Ep. of "Surprise Supplies" (which is defiantly not a thing) lets unveil the colourfulness of your dinner scraps My Sheet sets have magically dissolved into a mixed bundle of faded colour, slight different fabrics and nothing quite matching My goal is to DYE THE LOT to achieve a be...autifully tonal, matching set but you can try anything - maybe old some old tea towels or a t shirt need a refresh? 1Prep Fabric Make sure Fabric is %100 Natural (eg. Cotton, Silk, Linen etc.) and has been washed to remove dirt or coatings. 2Mordant your fabric Many things work as fixatives depending on the fabrics and dyeing intended BUT salt and vinegar work GREAT and you probs already have at home Fill a pot with 2 cups of fixative and water, slowly heat and soak fabric for as long as possible, min 45mins. 3Prep your naturals and Steep Cut down organics, place in large pot with water ration 1:2 and Leave too steep until desired colour is achieved (the longer the better) Remove organic materials. 4Dye your fabrics - Soak fabric in dye bath, noticing bubbles and folds as these will create effects leave in dye bath for as long as possible More time = More colour 5Rinse and Reheat Rinse and wring with water until the sink runs clear. Air dry and heat set with an iron for extra colour fast. One of the best things about natural dyeing is the amount of room for control or flow. With so many reacting variables, each dye bath is a slightly unexpected ride that you can try and control or not to achieve different results research or roll with it and a result will be achieved either way Play with everything - soak times, Ph balance, pot metals, shibori, water type, different fixatives - OH MY I really just go with the flow and in my opinion - you REAAALLLYYY can't go too wrong Check stories for process pics @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia See more
