25.01.2022 Thought for the day: "You're not too old, it's not too late." It's easy to let self-limiting thoughts and beliefs hold us back from achieving what we want. Thin...king "it's too late" to start a new project, new career, or new field study is a common one. But if you take the necessary steps towards your goal, you'll probably find you look back one day and realise it was exactly the right time to start.
24.01.2022 "The NVR Regulation Amendment 2018 allows ASQA to seek civil penalties for breaches of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (the Standards), even in cases where a provider has since rectified that breach. This legislative change enhances ASQAs capacity to effectively support the quality of the VET sector by providing an additional mechanism to protect students from poor-quality providers." https://www.asqa.gov.au//asqa-given-additional-powers-seek

19.01.2022 Friday's Food for Thought: Do you and your organisation have strength in breadth as well as depth? A recent report on the VET sector identified the need to focus on technical and enterprise skills equally, summed up by the concept of a "T-shaped individual" - someone having both specific technical skills and knowledge, and the enterprise skills of collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, complex problem solving and creativity. This calls for us to expand our range ...of skills and the industries they can be applied to, continually deepen our knowledge and expertise, and value collaborative, team building qualities in our business and employees (graphic borrowed from careersunbound.com)

This will affect people seeking to register a new RTO by requiring a very comprehensive financial viability risk assessment and business plan as part of the application process. What does this mean to you? Only very focussed, organised and well structured organisations will achieve RTO registration. As a new RTO you will be joining an industry that focusses on students and strives to offer a positive voc...ational outcome. 12.01.2022 A great article discussing some of the challenges faced and adaptations required within the VET sector "Australia needs a workforce with a new set of skills and the flexibility and capacity to adapt to even more change. Vocational education can deliver this workforce, but for this to happen the sector needs to be given autonomy and political trust. Trying to change the system piece by piece will result in a camel instead of the thoroughbred Australia needs." https://theconversation.com/the-vocational-education-sector

12.01.2022 Do you practice any "mental fitness" exercises? Exercising your brain, just like your body, has multiple benefits; it enhances memory, cognitive function and reduces your risk of degenerative diseases like dementia to name a few. Simple things like driving a different route to work, playing Sudoku in the weekend paper, or learning a new skill helps to keep the brain active and engaged. Dr. Bender states that "The brain wants to learn new things...When the brain is passive, i...t has a tendency to atrophy." The article below has a list of brain exercises you can try https://www.everydayhealth.com//brain-exercises-for-memory

10.01.2022 The Business Councils Future-proof paper, setting out a clear blueprint for how to deliver a world class education and skills system for all Australians, proposes a system with five core components: *Maintaining the unique character of each sector Vocational education and training as an industry-led sector based around competency-based training and applied learning, and Higher Education in providing advanced qualifications, learning for the sake of learning, academic inqui...ry, and world-class research. *Better market information so learners know what jobs are available, what they might earn, what courses are available and how much it will cost them. *Putting the learner in charge by giving every Australian a capped lifelong skills account that can be used to pay for courses at approved providers. *A culture of lifelong learning that encourages people to use qualifications to build a strong foundation, and then dip in and out of short, accredited modules to effectively create their own credentials that allow them to upskill and retrain throughout their lives. *A shared governance model clarifying the roles and responsibilities of each level of government and industry. 01.01.2022 "Disruptive technologies are influencing the demand for skills in many occupations. This report provides insights into the potential implications for vocational education and training (VET) of disruptive technologies associated with Industry 4.0 from the perspective of industry (technology users) and innovators (technology producers). The research found that there are barriers that prevent VET from better developing the skills required for disruptive technologies. These include: the lack of integration between the VET and higher education sectors; resourcing constraints and continual restructuring with the VET sector; and the limitations of training packages."
