The scent of simmering ragù wafted through the screen door to the back porch where I sat with Otto Dal Zotto. He popped a chilled bottle of prosecco, and after the requisite Salute! we gazed over rows of grapevines to distant gold and green hills a scene reminiscent of northern Italy’s Veneto region.... My wife, Elena, and I bought this place in 1986 because it reminded me of my home, Valdobbiadene, Dal Zotto said, as if reading my mind. And because it has the ideal Mediterranean climate for growing prosecco. Two kangaroos chomping on grape clusters made it clear I was nowhere near Italy, but rather, in Australia’s King Valley, a scenic wine region three hours northeast of Melbourne. Inspired by his Italian roots, Dal Zotto sourced hard-to-find cuttings and planted Australia’s first prosecco vines in 1999, thus becoming the country’s prosecco pioneer. His eldest son is now the winemaker at Dal Zotto Wines and produces numerous types of prosecco, among other varietals. When I was growing up, there was always a bottle of prosecco on the table, every table, Dal Zotto said. Planting prosecco in King Valley was important to me and my family legacy. Italian pride swirls up and down the 27-mile-long valley, where around two dozen family-owned vineyards have produced wine for three generations. With a reputation for generous hospitality and high-quality sangiovese, barbera, and nebbiolo, the region has earned its cred. But it’s the light and effervescent sparkler (and day-drinking favorite) that inspired other King Valley vineyards to jump on the bubbles bandwagon. In 2011, five vintners collaborated to create the King Valley Prosecco Road, a food-and-wine trail that invites visitors to bask in King Valley and the prosecco lifestyle with tastings at cellar doors (as tasting rooms are known here), pasta-making classes, Italian food, and terraces designed for sipping in the sunshine. 13.01.2022 As the World Shut Down, We at FBI went to Work! Back in March, many travellers who did their own travel booking online would have heard a message like this Your call is important to us. All our representatives are currently assisting other customers. Your estimated wait time is two to three hours. When they finally were able to speak to a live person, in many cases, they were not offered much help. Did We have this message on our answer phone? NO We were available 24/7... What the pandemic has taught us is that having a professional travel advisor help plan your trip has made our value more. I, along with all my colleagues at FBI Travel worked tirelessly around the clock to get our clients home safely, applied for refunds or credits for future travel and helped them rebook a future trip. We truly served as an advocate for them and did everything we could to help protect their travel investment. It required long, tedious hours, and no earnings. It was the most challenging time of my career. My obligation was to take as much worry away from my clients as possible. As much as I wish I were making sales instead of refunding trips, I had to do the right thing for my clients. My focus was on walking clients through all their options to postpone versus cancel so they could make the best decision for themselves. I made it 100% right for each and every one of them! Despite the impact the coronavirus has had on the travel industry, I am remaining optimistic about the future of my business. Im focused on preparing for the surge in travel I know will come when my clients feel its safer to travel. I know it will take some time for the travel industry to fully recover and that travel will look a little different, but I know travel agents will play a huge role in the industrys resurgence. I have been reading some recent horror stories of travellers booking it themselves. For example, being denied entry to certain countries etc because they have failed to fill in the (Passenger Locator Form) correctly. Others have arrived to find their hotel closed or changed without prior notice. Why inflict that kind of stress on yourselves when someone like me is here to guide you through? With guidelines and policies varying by destination and supplier on an almost daily basis, it can be a lot to process by yourself. Travel agents will be key to helping travellers navigate this new world and provide guidance on safe destinations and activities. If clients who are going to travel want to know they will be safe, thats what we are here for. Its our mission to ensure everything is in place, protected and safe.
