25.01.2022 It's National Carers Week this week so we thought we'd share the cover story from our most recent Quarterly featuring Eva and Graham Vickers. Eva was a carer long before she even knew what a carer was. Her life transformed before her very eyes from a world where she relied on Graham for a lot of things, to one where he relies on her for almost everything. Graham, 63, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2009. There had been signs for a while, like struggling with buttons..., but the diagnosis was still a devastating blow. 17.01.2022 The death of her favorite university lecturer from a melanoma triggered Bronwyn Rantall’s heightened awareness of skin cancer and it might just have saved her life. Mrs Rantall began ‘mole mapping’ soon after the funeral of Ballarat University Prof Graham Ford in 2007 and earlier this year a small lump in the middle of her forehead turned out to a worrisome basal cell carcinoma (BCC). 12.01.2022 Recent renovations, minor refurbishments and office swapping here at Timboon and District Healthcare Service (TDHS) has created a more inclusive team culture, according to Home and Community Care (HACC) worker Suzanne Matthews. TDHS’s building services team and local contractors have just completed a raft of changes that has seen many staff members relocated to spaces that make more strategic sense, according to chief executive officer Rebecca Van Wollingen. We thought we co...uld use the space we have in a better, more efficient and smarter way and we’ve been able to do that. The response has been really positive, she said. 09.01.2022 As '2020 the Year of the Nurse and Midwife' nears an end, one of the true faces of TDHS is embarking on a brand new challenge. Registered Nurse Michelle Selten is hanging up the scrubs and her ward uniform and joining our executive team as the Interim Director of Clinical Services. Michelle has only ever been employed at TDHS. She graduated from Timboon P12 School across the road in 1985, completed her Diploma of Nursing at Deakin in Warrnambool and was employed as an RN at T...DHS in 1989. But it's also a great side dish for those who do.... There's 10 minutes prep, 30 minutes cook time and it serves up to eight people. Amanda visited Nullawarre Primary School to deliver one of her many health education programs in the community. 01.01.2022 The discovery of an ultimately harmless lump in her right breast in 2013 might have saved Julie Harkin’s life. While the lump she had felt turned out to be a benign cyst, it was the catalyst for scans that unfortunately found a cancerous grade three (fast growing) lump Julie hadn’t detected. Julie has been a nurse at TDHS for 36 years, with the exception of 11 months in 2013/14 when she beat breast cancer.... October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Julie said she was happy to share her story and help demonstrate how important regular mammograms are for women.
