21.01.2022 Making sure the china makes it safely. Now that some restrictions have lifted here in Tasmania maybe a catch up with friends and cups of tea is just what you need. www.simonmcinerney.com
20.01.2022 How do you eat your toast, A. B. or C.? There’s the easy way, and then there is the correct way(s).
18.01.2022 This does not have to be your meal time experience while we retreat into our homes for the time being. Restaurants are adapting, farmers are still growing, bakers are still up at 3AM, coffee is being brewed, grapes are fermenting. Online orders for delivery or pick up are the new norm. Continue to support your local producer. Until we can gather together again and hug it out do what you can to keep local businesses ticking over. Just a few Launceston operations changing it up to get you through; Harvest Launceston, Delicious Little Things, Felds Farm, Bread & Butter, Princes Square Bar there are many, many more.
17.01.2022 Scented candles are ubiquitous in bathrooms. They certainly add ambience to a room. Rarely is a relaxing bath drawn without a candle being lit. From a housekeeping observation remember they are mini fireplaces emitting soot. And the fuel, the wax, has to go somewhere. Look to the exhaust fan. It’s likely greasy and accumulating dust. Trimming the wick can reduce the issue. No matter the quality of candle regular thorough cleaning is the only real remedy!
16.01.2022 The great thing about afternoon tea, it can be casual or fancy, dressed up or dressed down, solo or with friends. However you do it, the end result will be the same *inhale* oh so *exhale* relaaaaaaxing. (better than yoga ) www.simonmcinerney.com
15.01.2022 Still a few vacancies apparently. An ideal way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

12.01.2022 Sometimes, unfortunately, you only get to admire the labels. www.simonmcinerney.com
08.01.2022 Long before Google silversmiths have been stamping who, where and when on their wares. Silver hallmarks, just what do they tell us? I am by no means an expert perhaps an enthusiastic novice. In this case there are five clues. On the top left, the lion passant tells us it is English sterling silver. The leopard’s head top right is the stamp of the London Assay Office, judge and jury of precious metals since 1300! In the centre the letters CSH in trefoil is the maker’s stamp, ...Charles Stuart Harris (of London). Lower left is the letter G in a shield signifying 1882, the year it was made. And lower right, a duty stamp, certifying payment was made to the Sovereign. Hallmarks are a legal requirement in the UK on all precious metals. It is one of the highest standards anywhere in the world for gold, silver and platinum. Each little symbol provides a fascinating chapter of the story. www.simonmcinerney.com See more
08.01.2022 Nice to be bringing the tools of the trade back into action. Preparing to host a morning tea for nine guests in their home tomorrow. www.simonmcinerney.com
06.01.2022 Veraison is the beginning of grapes ripening. For a short time bunches can appear multi-coloured. Not the case here but early in the season, if weather conditions prove difficult, ‘hen & chicken’ can develop. That is the berries mature at a very different pace, meaning the bunch will have both small and large berries. (Known as millerandage in French). Uneven ripening can prove problematic for picking and ultimately wine quality. Picking in Tasmania is underway where pinot noir and chardonnay are predominantly grown. About one third of the overall harvest will go into sparkling wine making. The epicentre of sparkling production in Tasmania is the Pipers River region. Concierge Tasmania can help you plan out your wine adventures, and more, when visiting the island state. https://www.simonmcinerney.com/concierge-tasmania
05.01.2022 Polishing the silverware in preparation for afternoon tea this Saturday. (Yes, it’s a coffee pot, better to be prepared for non-tea drinkers.)
04.01.2022 Today the iconic architecture is more commonly recognised as Downton Abbey. Turn back time Can you spot me? Back (there’s a clue) in my time at Highclere Castle. A role I will always look back on with great fondness. A small part of an incredible team. www.simonmcinerney.com
04.01.2022 While styles are always changing, a cup of tea never goes out of fashion. Your friendly reminder that right about now would be a perfect time to take a break, make a brew, and relax for a few moments.
04.01.2022 Always called a napkin, never a serviette. Placed on the lap, never tucked in to the shirt collar. When required dabbed around the mouth, never wiped across the face. Is never discarded onto the dinner plate after a meal is complete.

02.01.2022 If you find yourself having to remove the stickers before fruit goes into the fruit bowl you’ve unknowingly passed a module of butler school. Keep up the good work! simonmcinerney.com
02.01.2022 Even the local auction house could benefit from a butler occasionally always a napkin, never a serviette, and well I’d be out of a job if I arrived to the table with it holding anything other than toast. simonmcinerney.com
