25.01.2022 Just saved this from being decorated with smarties! Vanilla cake with passionfruit. xo

24.01.2022 Tea and memories | Tea doesn't always need to be fancy. It doesn’t always need to be served from fancy pots in fancy cups. For me, it’s about the connection that it brings. The conversation, the laughter, the tears, the memories and the moments. Today I'm remembering the way my Dad used to make his tea, strong and sweet and made in this very simple tea pot that I keep as a reminder of him

23.01.2022 Beesting | When I made beesting a few months ago as part of my On Thursday’s I Bake I mentioned my memories of it from #perryscakes, the local bakery from my hometown. Well they still make it, once a week, on Wednesday’s. So on my rough maths that means they’ve probably been making it for about 30 years... it tastes exactly as I remember

18.01.2022 #Repost @drrebeccaray with @get_repost What if, lovely ones? It’s there ... we just need to listen a little more closely to hear it .... #drrebeccaray #gogently #writers #writings See more

15.01.2022 I took this beautiful teacup on an outing today. A group of vintage China tea lovers met to share stories about their favourite teacups. I learnt that this cup is circa 1880-1930. So more antique than vintage

12.01.2022 On Thursday's I Bake | A day late again but I am blaming no daycare. This week I've made Sam's Kitchen Foodie Goods rose, pistachio and almond biscuits. I saw these on Sam's page last week and loved them immediately. Three of my favourite ingredients and the colours are so beautiful. They remind me of the Italian biscuit pasta di mandorle. Thanks to Botanic Republic for sourcing lyssi's, my next favourite flower after gardenias. xo

12.01.2022 Tea and pikelets | Hands up if you are a pikelet fan? This photo is of the tea and pikelets served by the gorgeous CWA ladies in Yungaburra. On market days they are known for churning out hundreds of cups of tea, pikelets, scones and corned beef sandwiches

11.01.2022 Christmas traditions | I know Christmas is well and truly long gone but to be honest I am feeling a little ripped off! My small boy was pretty unwell over Christmas and I didn’t get A chance to do all of the things that have become traditional for me at that time of year... so I’m playing catch up. One of the things I love to make and eat around Christmas time is Bill Granger’s coconut bread. It’s delicious toasted and served with loads of butter and in my opinion roasted white peaches. I’ve upped the flavour of the peaches with some lime from Clohesy River limes and they smell incredible. The perfect breakfast with a cup of tea! Do you have Christmas traditions that you honour every year?

09.01.2022 A simple message xo

08.01.2022 Tea infusions | I think it might be time to make some Rose Chai icecream again.

07.01.2022 My Tea Story (Part 1) | For me, the enjoyment that comes from both the preparation and drinking of tea is really about capturing moments and memories. It is also about the enjoyment that comes from the deliberate and intentional pauses that are a necessary component of making and drinking tea whether that is in solitude or with others. My earliest tea drinking memories and moments involve my family. In particular, they involve my grandparents, my parents, my aunties and uncle...s and my cousins. Tea drinking from a big shared pot, with a tea cosy, and served in mismatched cups and mugs, always with a saucer, was a weekend evening ritual when I was probably around 6 years old. I remember vividly that what accompanied this tea was often sweet packet store bought biscuits and always Saos (a savoury biscuit) that my Nanna would butter, grate cheese on and add sliced tomato to (she would salt and pepper this). What also accompanied the tea was conversation, around a table, laid with a lace cloth, that was too small and never had enough chairs for everyone. What it was really about though was sharing tea and supper and conversation. I always drank my tea with sugar and milk added. And when I reflect on these moments now, my senses and emotions are stirred immediately by the recollection of the malt and fruity flavours and aromas imparted by the more than likely over-steeped brew. I know now that these moments probably marked the very beginnings of my curiosity for flavour and aroma and all of the creativity that would come with the development of my flavour palate. I also know now, that these moments would mark the very beginnings of the memories that would begin to be stored when it came to tea. Do you have a very early tea memory? See more

07.01.2022 Birthday Cakes | It is almost time to choose my sweet boy's birthday cake. In just over a month he will be four years old. At this stage he wants the exact same cake that he had for his second birthday.... the animal farm with a jelly pond.... we will have to check out the Women's Weekly kids party cake book to see if he will change his mind. I remember looking at that book for hours as a kid trying to choose a cake ... Meanwhile, I've been dreaming about this cake and the gorgeous vintage plates that we photographed last year as part of our Food Photography course with @ewenbell. This cake was made by the wonderful Iron Chef Shellie for her own birthday which we also celebrated during the course. It is a honey cake with rhubarb cream cheese frosting. #shelliefoodlove What flavour cake is your favourite for birthday cakes?
